20 Replies to “Get Back”

  1. I look forward to seeing this, and have seen several clips and trailers from the “trilogy” of shows. It seems to dispel the narrative that we’ve all been told for 50 years, with a better perspective, that the 4 lads really still liked and enjoyed each other, despite the inevitable breakup a year or so later.

But I refuse to pay/subscribe to the woke Disney pedophiles for the privilege.

What other platform is this on?

  2. Watching it as I write this, in the second part. Very much a show for fans, not casual Beatles listeners. Watching the classics come to life is remarkable. The part where McCartney and Lennon come up with Tuscon to fit into Get Back is very cool. Many other bits like this. The creation of Let It Be and other songs on the album is insight into song writing genius. All of it before they were 30. Not a documentary, just the cameras rolling… 50 years ago. Wow!

    1. Similar to Glenn Frey’s lyrical rescue of Jackson Browne’s unfinished second verse of Take It Easy.

Odd the Arizona common denominator, eh?

  3. Thanks Francisco! I hadn’t seen this yet. I am a massive Beatles Fan (mostly because I’m fascinated by their creative process, and prolific … evolving … creativity), and I am a massive Rick Beato Fan. I have seen 2 of the 3 … and if you aren’t a Beatles geek, you’ll probably be BORED to tears. I was fascinated by it all. It offers a rare insight into one of the 3-major cultural institutions of the Boomer generation.

The lads really DID spend a LOT of time goofing around (musically). On the surface, what they goofed with had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the task at hand … but it was the primary way they communicated with one another, and likely inspired their creativity. But when they focused on the task at hand? OMG! Pure genius … Pure talent. And Pure instincts … they KNEW what sounded BEST … which mix was the RIGHT mix.

And yes, although I don’t yet have it on vinyl … Let it Be NAKED is definitely the RIGHT mix. And let me add … this is largely the reason the vinyl community cherishes and pays significant $$ to obtain reengineered and re-pressed classic records. It’s the mix. It’s deciding which instruments or voices to bring forward, and which to fade. The Engineer/Producer has a massive influence on the final sound. Given the original Analogue tapes … the sound of every song can be significantly reorganized.

    Great Dicumentary!

  4. Tell you a story.
Was 19 somenting, drafted soldier in them days in the town of Plzen, you may know it as Pilsen, where the actual 12 percent pilsner is made to this day.
    Anyway.
The unit was about a half an hour walk from the city.
As it was, I was a teletype guy. So, I had a duty every so often at the teletype where the radio was. Would listen to the Radio Free Europe for three hours a day, highly irregular, border line treason, considered by communists forbidden fruit. The music was of course The Beatles, Johnny Hallyday, French guy, and other American and European singers and groups.
Would pipe it into the yard PA, something you may have seen in the MASH movie. Had to cut it off when the talk came on, talk being potential prison time.
Heh, it went on for some time. Sometimes I slipped and did not shut the talk in time.
    Nobody really knew.
One day the supply officer that lived at the base, heard a bit of the talk, heh, he must have listened to it himself since he knew and came over and asked how is it that I play the Free Europe, that I even listen to it.
Anyway, he let is slide and that was the end of that broadcast.
    No more Beatles.

    1. That story breaks my heart, Lev.

Here’s one for you. A few years ago when I was in a taxi going home and I noticed the driver had an accent so I asked him where he was from. He said he was from behind the iron curtain, I forget where. So, on the conversation went to the 1972 Canada – U.S.S.R. hockey series. He perked right up when he heard I, a woman, watched it too, back in the day. He said he stayed up all night to watch it with his dad. He and I talked about the series and before I knew it I was at home. I wish I could remember which team he and his dad were rooting for. I don’t think it was the Russians.

He seemed happy to have talked hockey with me. The feeling was mutual. What a nice guy.

P.S. apologies for being way way off topic. I understand the Russians, Poles and others loved the Beatles and listened to pirated copies of their records!

  5. “This footage contains explicit language, mature themes and smoking”.

Peter Jackson had to fight Disney over the explicit language. If they wanted to censor the smoking, there would have been about 10 minutes of film left.

    1. Right? I am personally, deeply offended, by that “smoking WARNING” label applied. OMG! Our chilllllldren might see really kewl, talented, and stylish Rock Stars … *gasp* … smoking!? Our chillllldren might even think that Paul McCartney and John Lennon had the ‘grit’ in their voices BECAUSE of the smoking!? The horror. The horror. PS … I have NEVER been a smoker.

Yeah … Disney can airbrush out all those troublesome cigs like they airbrush Pacific Islander heroines to look slimmer than the typical 250 pounder PI girl. Airbrush all their Princesses so as to titillate the Hollywood pedophiles. Priorities … priorities …

How about a similar WARNING on Disney heroines rendered to titilate ?

  6. They have great songs, more than a few.

    “Three hours”
    To this day the Beatles get treatment like this because;
(I have always contended) “Most Over-Rated Band, Ever”

  7. I have no use for the communist totalitarian one who spied on and fired his workers that ate meat on their own, not at work time.

    1. Never liked Lennon’s (Lenin?) political views either. The top talent of this band was Harrison…tunes like “while my guitar gently weeps” and “Something” which was voted the best Beatles song of all by Sinatra himself are good examples. McCartney is talented too but he was always the commercial song writer; for good or bad.
