Opposing Views: Climate Change

Interesting format. Since you can’t get anyone from the “fossil fuels are evil” side to actually debate the issue having them take turns like this is the next best thing. It also takes a lot of the emotion and gottcha moments out of the equation.

Alex Epstein vs Andrew Dessler

  1. A debate between someone looking at things sensibly and someone with an authoritarian bent who would rather you question nothing. That only took me fifteen minutes.

    1. It took me about 28 seconds. The eyes, are the window to the soul, and the glassy eyed, glass wearing, glass house, ideologue, lost me with his demeanor, speech pattern, and presentation, oh that, and the complete lack of reality. It’s funny how you can tell in only a few moments whether or not this person has anything to offer in way of intellect.

  2. I’ve made a few in the Global Warming Cult think a little bit by offering to trade sides: They argue for the ‘denier’ side and I’ll argue for the ‘we’re doomed’ side.
They don’t seem to be very well versed in their opposition’s arguments.
And I point out to them that if they don’t know both sides of the issue then they cannot logically claim that one side’s arguments are stronger than the other’s.
You can’t honestly compare pros and cons if you only know the pros arguments.

  3. in the first few seconds of the video one guy says ; all you have to do to know climate is changing is look outside your window

that is the dumbest thing he could say.

no the fact that today is warm and sunny or cold and damp does not tell me if in 50, 200 or 500 years it will be colder or warmer

looking outside my window tells me nothing, zero, niet zilch about the future

but it does tell me one thing ; the climate outside is the exact same it was all my life and I am 62 years old

there is no radical change, no noticeable change, we have warm summers, cold winter with snow

same as it ever was when europeans arrived here centuries ago

my window cannot tell the future

    1. Maybe not during the period of 1645-1715. Those were brutal times, and the ship’s logs, diaries, and recorded history tell of vicious winters. During that time period, we were in the Maunder Minimum. Only 50 sunspots were noted in that time when it should have been over 50,000. For an analogy for comprehension think of it like bacon grease on too high of a setting. Hot sun popping off like the grease.

    2. One has to look at the geological and paleontological record. Before the ice age, North America was a lot hotter than it is today.
Climate change has been going on since the Earth was formed. It will continue until the Sun novas and burns everything to a crisp.
Climate change is why we exist. We are also a very adaptive species, which is why we still exist. Species that could not adapt are now extinct.
No amount of tossing virgins into volcanoes, burning infants, cutting peoples’ hearts out for sacrifice to the sun god or punitively taxing us into oblivion will stop it. Eliminating fossil fuels WILL NOT ELIMINATE it. Any idiot who believes otherwise is just that; a brain dead idiot.

    3. It looks nice out my window, but if I go outside it’s cold, cold, cold. I’m thinking of getting up to turn on the gas fireplace, but I don’t want to get out from under this comfy blanket. I will when I need to refill my coffee cup.

  4. Climate change science fiction stories will be all our rulers have soon, eventually everyone will get sick of pandemicon.

  5. There are far more cogent advocates for AGW than the hapless Dr. Dessler. As an engineer what appalls me is the fatal ignorance of his ilk on the engineering implications of their airy proposals to mitigate co2 emissions. To say nothing of his throwaway that the swings of immediate demand can be met with a’ it of nuclear’. ‘Nuff said.

  6. The first half was really good. The second half was painful. A pompous ass who has mastered sweeping generalizations. Climate change: “Look out your window”. I’d like to see him build his “cheaper” wind and solar without fossil fuels?

  7. Epstein is pro-human, facts-based, and takes a holistic view of our situation,
    His website is great resource.
