There is no threshold. No exact number. Instead, it’s a case-by-case scenario that is determined by the league, the NHL Player’s Union and medical experts. And it is far from perfect — or fair, for that matter.
The NHL no longer publicizes the daily list of those in COVID protocol. But that doesn’t mean the cases have subsided. Despite having a league that is practically fully vaccinated — Detroit’s Tyler Bertuzzi remains the lone holdout — the pandemic continues to take down players.
Every day, there are new players who have been infected. Most are asymptomatic. And yet, the NHL is still surprised by the rate of infection.
“The number of positive cases is more extensive than we originally anticipated,” said Daly, “but the nature of the cases we are seeing are generally less serious than they were last year, which is obviously a testament to the vaccine.”

Covid Response is basically just that. “Mr and Mrs Government! What are you doing in response to the Covid Crisis?!”
And the Government replies, “We are doing everything we can to keep the population safe… unlike the other political party.”
There is no actual ‘plan’ as such, just a stream of ‘Responses’ to prove they are keeping the public safe. Consistency? Nope. Logically interrelated? Nope. Just a constant need to first never admit their earlier advices were ever wrong and second making sure they are always seen to be doing something, anything, that keeps them as the go to authority figure.
To back flip and simply say “You know, relative to all the other causes of death this is nothing. Just wash your hands, stop licking doorknobs, actually stay home if you have a cough (any cough) and use all these well established and readily reliable treatments and we can all get back to worrying about Climate Change” would be to admit there are other people in the world who can look after the general public.
They got on this ride of lies, now they have to see it through to the end.
