  1. Small wafers and small denominated coins of Gold and Silver are what you will need for day tp day survival after we follow the lead of Venezuela (no doubt an inspiration for the Spawn). Five thousand years of failure of fiat currencies tell us that the PMs are the medium of exchange that endures.

    1. Back in the day, gold was extremely rare and only small thinner coins could be produced.
Lots of silver but that brings to being a heavy metal.
Believe me, treasure couldn’t be carried by bulk as it’s extremely heavy.

  2. In Canada and the US the government will, as it has in the past take all your gold and tell you to go fuck yourself. History is a mean bitch.

    1. But what would they do with it? Haven’t both countries already liquidated their gold reserves so that we don’t have anything of value to back up our currencies?

Guess they’d just sell the confiscated gold too… 🙁

    2. You have yet to see the absolutely amazing job the Chinese have done in currency coin recreation of world coins.
Currency coins were of trading value that were the same diameter and quantity of silver at the time.
I have a collection around 4,000 coins. Many of the one kg are stamped pure silver as well as others and most you put a magnet over usually means 100% silver that metal isn’t in the coins.
China used copper a base making it undetectable besides the fantastic quality of the engraving and behind plastic covers.

The only problem I find is it’s so damn heavy.
You put one one these coins in your hand or compassion to an original, you can’t see what is fake. They are that good.
But it has given me an amazing historical perspective on these dollar and fifty cent pieces as well as other large coins stamped pure silver.

    3. Canada didn’t confiscate Gold but it doesn’t mater as if you acquire while cash is still legal they’ll never know you have any and if you can’t hide coins, you are already in the Gulag.

    4. which is why BTC is popular. Government can’t get at crypto. Much of the 3rd world uses crypto for this reason. Because you can tell the Government to go fuck off.

You can vote your way in to Socialism/Communism, but history tells us you always have to shoot the bastards to get out.

        1. This is a great comment. I like crypto, but it’s power reliant. I guess it comes down to how far do you see a collapse going? Mad Max, slow and painful like John Galt or 1946 Berlin, it’ll come back kinda thing?

Thoughts? Ammo, gold and sundries are still ‘barter-able’. And if you have a skill, more power to you. You’ll be fine. I’ve got two useless degrees, been a long time since my trade was useful. ( I can still bang out full color aligned copy if I get a working Press.)

          I’m interested.

        2. Exactly. Crypto needs a functioning internet to have value, and a functioning internet needs a functioning electrical grid.

          1. Foobert, thanks for the comment. But what are you all doing to prepare? I’m interested. We’ve got enough food to get us for a few months, but if the power goes out that drops to two. What is everyone doing? I’m curious for ideas? How far do you think we will go? Full Venezuela? I noticed auto won’t help me on that one. Had to copy and paste.

  3. It’s coming here soon and sooner than we think. And all the cutesy, feel good portraits of Viola Desmond on the ten dollar bill wont help you. In fact the last thing she sees will likely be the business end of your ass cause quite frankly that’s all it’ll be good for.

  4. but, but, but, where is bitcoin in all this ???????????????????????????????????
methinks a LOT of speculators are gonna get BIT by BITcoin. (l think the name is a private joke on all of us)

      1. Yep he misses the point by a country mile. We are the new Venezuela folks.
Friend who is an EMT in Edmonton sent me a quick pic of empty shelves in Edmonton.
Going to be a lot of “I AM CANADIAN” Fucks dumpster diving and following a Ravens ass for lunch before it is over.
In the 1930’s many men died on the side of road with nothing but grass in their stomachs.

        1. I’d be surprised if most people who come here haven’t prepped at least a little given the societal collapse all around us. On this trajectory, Canada will be Venezuela within a decade.

          1. If you got something that someone wants real bad , try stopping them.
In bad times you need an Equalizer, I prefer mine full of lead.

    1. Yeah, I’m sure the “Loblaws” in Venezuela is well stocked. You’d need an army to protect it and then the army would do the looting.

  5. Save your pennies. We’ve had steel slugs since 2000. 1970’s pennies are worth 4 cents. Even 1990’s quarters are worth 13 cents melt value, they’ll be above 25 cents soon.
If you take your 1960’s quarters, they are worth $4.50 now. About 5.5% return compounded. Inflation is a bitch.
Wait until the steel in today’s coins is worth more in melt than face.

  6. Gold will also lose its value. It cannot be eaten, smoked or used to wipe your rump.

Barter in goods and services will be the norm. Toilet paper will be currency. Paper currency will be for butt wiping.

  7. The story was filed from Tumeremo. Gold was universal tender there in the 90s too. As ol’ Peter Trueman might have said at the end of a newscast, that’s not news, but it is reality.

  8. 4G’s. GOLD – GUNS – GRUB – GROUND.

Booze and tobacco should be added for barter value.
As has been said, without an electrical grid, Bitcoin is worthless.
You might want to stash a wood stove up in the back quarter as well, you’ll probably need it.
Ammunition reloading equipment is handy as well. Include bullet casting molds.
Wheel weights and lino-type are the perfect mix/hardness for projectiles. Don’t forget powder and primers.
