U.S. power plants are on course to burn 23% more coal this year, the first increase since 2013, despite President Biden’s ambitious plan for a national grid to run on 100% clean energy by 2035.
A global energy crunch is rippling through the world amid a huge rebound for power. Natural gas has soared to record highs as supplies remain tight, and countries are finding out that renewable energy sources aren’t as reliable as previously thought. This has created a massive worldwide scramble by power companies for fossil fuels, especially coal.
Coal is Reliable, moderately priced fuel.
Gas used to be cheaper than coal, so it was used more.
Biden stopped fracking on Public lands and stopped building pielines.
Gas prices went up. Coal is now cheaper.
These price swings between coal and gas happen about every five or ten years.
The only problem is a lot of coal fired plants have been retired and dismantled.
I guess we just need to build a few more windmills?
Anyone ever go to Palm Springs…Old Palm Springs and have a good look around, you’ll see first hand the colossal pile of BULLSHIT wind is. 95% of the at least 500 turbines were dead when I was there last in 2003. I have no doubt that has not changed.

i bought some coal at Dodsland last year. the carbon tax was more than the coal. their biggest customers they told me were manitoba hutterian breathern who run their grain dryers with it. even with the carbon tax its still cheap per BTU . the coal there is but 10 ft below the surface but looks like bituminous , hard and black but not anthracite shiney

In Europe, Asia, Africa, maybe.
In North America there is so much gas, they don’t know what to do with it.
Somebody is manipulating this, there is a goal, somebody is going to make billions and billions, as Sagan would say.
The oil and gas in quantities never seen before, during the term of Trump did not just go up in smoke, disappeared into nothingness.
