  1. If it turns out woke, the box office receipts will flunk. Naturally, they will blame the patriarchy instead of just not giving the customers what they want.

  2. Francisco, Is this an Old NP story? It came out today:

‘Surprise conclusion’: Trump overtakes Biden in popular support among U.S. voters, poll finds

Fifty-one percent of 1,578 registered U.S. voters considered Trump to be the better leader, while 49 per cent prefer Biden, according to the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll online survey taken between Sept. 15 and 16.

“The mounting issues on all fronts have led to the surprise conclusion that Trump is now seen as good a president as Biden, suggesting the honeymoon is being replaced now with buyer’s remorse,”

    1. Buddy – That was hilarious. If that was SNL, it was far superior to anything I’ve seen on that program in the last few years.

  3. I am amused by how much Hollywood completely misses the point about James Bond altogether.
Canonically he was born in 1921.
He became a spy because of his previous experience in the military during the war.
He drinks an extreme amount of booze, not cocktails with classy sophisticates and socialites, he is a functioning alcoholic due to PTSD from the war, and probably treats sex like alcohol.
He was never meant to be subtle or sophisticated in his solutions, he was a blunt instrument wielded crudely by the government when nothing less terrible would do. Any class and sophistication were just outward appearances and a bit of the stiff upper lip attitude of wartime Brits.

The earlier James Bond movies with Connery were decent representations of the character with just a bit of spectacle filler to pad out the movie and hold interest. Roger Moore started the comic book action hero style of James Bond, and it has only gotten worse.

Compare Octopussy the movie with the original short story. The original was a psychological piece from the point of view of the villain, with James Bond trying to solve a decades old murder of his ski instructor whose body turned up as a glacier pushed down the mountain, and the villain had killed him during the war to cover up his stealing of a few bars of nazi gold. Only two characters and an octopuss were in the book.

    1. The Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me and A Quantum of Solace movies bear no relation to Fleming’s stories of the same names whatsoever.

      1. Moonraker took place a few years after the Americans started launching captured V-2s for scientific purposes.

  4. Yes, I too miss the old National Post. What a breath of fresh air for several years from its inception, a voice I could relate to. The end of that began when the Aspers gained control.

  5. I always thought that Moneypenny was the real predator in the Bond movies. His conquests simply succumbed to his masculinity.

I wonder who Moneypenny screwed over to get to be Bond’s boss in the later films.
