Although I don’t doubt the reality of Chinese election interference, the Liberals won the riding because they nominated a candidate of the correct ethnicity. In Richmond’s balkanized geography, Richmond East is largely South Asian, not Chinese, and the Libs nominated a South Asian candidate. You can’t win with a candidate of the wrong ethnicity in the multicultural paradise of suburban Canada. Everyone in Richmond knows this.
I would think that a competent political scientist would be able to look at public opinion polling, and rates of Chinese immigration, and then tell us, within a month or two, the exact date that Beijing will have majority control over the BC electoral process. BTW, is it better for us to study Cantonese or Mandarin?
