The only way out of Afghanistan for hundreds of approved immigrants to Canada was through a sewage canal bordering the Kabul airport. On Thursday, an explosive device was detonated at that site.
Until early Wednesday, soldiers from Canada had joined other nations guarding that canal. Then they left and, according to eyewitness texts and images, were replaced by armed Taliban fighters.

This sort of reminds me, of course, of the Warsaw Uprising, which was deliberately instigated by Stalin, and then disregarded, wherein the Soviets did not then invade Warsaw over the Vistula River, thereby allowing a straight fight between the heavily outnumbered Polish patriots and the Nazis in hand-to-hand combat in the sewers of Warsaw. Churchill offered to fly supply missions to the Polish, including munitions, many by the RCAF, with little or no chance of return home.

This story today is the most disgraceful and heart-rending chapter in the long and distinguished history of the the Canadian Armed Forces: whether one likes Mr. Newman or not, it should never have come to this turn of events.
All involved, from the top down, need to investigated, and as necessary, tried, convicted and imprisoned: let them spend hard time thinking about their “crimes against humanity”.

This is Canada’s biggest black eye in history. I am appalled, disgusted, and all but physically ill. As an army veteran (reserve, retired) I served with many soldiers who would be willing to go beyond to rescue Canadian citizens and allies. I suspect some did do the extra; I know I would have been eager to go on any such mission, authorized or not, and would pay the price. It’s what we do.
Trudeau knew in July; the CDS knew; IRCC knew. The did little and show no remorse.
Every Canadian voter that voted for Trudeau and Singh (who holds the reins in Trudeau’s minority government) is responsible for each and every victim in this tragedy.
