A Secret History of How the Never Trumpers Lost the War of Ideas
Three years ago, I wrote an essay on “The Collapse of the Never Trumpers” that caused quite a stir. Rush Limbaugh talked about it on his radio show, while Nigel Farage congratulated me in the halls of Parliament. Hundreds of people wrote me “thank you” notes. The haughty Never Trumpers, not so much. My modest proposal was that the 3% of Republicans who never approved of President Trump should stop pretending that they were spokesmen for the 97% of Republicans who did. In the corporate media, where 97% of that 3% were keeping a high profile on cable news, the distortions became preposterous. This seemed to me elementary logic. But for the tiny group of delusional Never Trumpers, my modest proposal fell on them like a ton of bricks.
In the end, my essay ignited a kind of public war among conservative intellectuals that helped to bring down the neocons and the Never Trumpers in the media. Not only did the Weekly Standard shut down, but the National Review kicked out Jonah Goldberg, and the neocon’s peewee prince Bill Kristol went to work for Democrats – all in six months. How did that happen? They had no base of support outside of the Beltway, and they were in willful denial about their own unpopularity.
And in a certain Saskatchewan newspaper I read today that ‘vaccines should be mandated’ as they are effective, yet senior care facilities were locking down again as they aren’t… Oh, yeah, same paper told me that grade school kids should wear masks, yet they too aren’t effective…

It’s not difficult to understand. In the English developed west, the best and brightest went into business. And trusted that the less (mentally) endowed would not kill the goose that lays the golden goose.
Trump is the latest (and best, in my generation) business success to tell the political leadership “if you want to lead, here’s how you do it”. And those who believe in the economic model cheer, for he is a champion. And those who believe in the political model scream, for he is the anti-Christ.
If politics is just another form of business then another Trump shall rise, and another, and another, until the dunderheads who aren’t smart enough to understand why this keeps winning are ground into the dust. If, on the other hand, politics is a means of control that must be kept from the grasp of the middle class… well, that’s why the US has the 2nd amendment. Lord Jesus, protect us if we are there for there is an earth-shattering battle coming.
Politics is the art of compromise that those who desire to control can manipulate to those ends.
The type of people in politics may not be the smartest, but they should be of good character and of good faith.
The tell is if the punditry attacks them with the media riding shotgun.

Or as stated 3 millenia ago, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
The left is short on ideas … other than that they are above any law.

Great essay and thanks for posting it. What bothers me is the treachery, turncoat side of the Never Trumpers. In Canada we have our own writers who joined the Left — Michael Coren and Andrew Coyne to name two.
Part of the reason is money. The Establieh Left has is much larger and has huge amounts of money, something conservatives lack.
The establishment left as you call them are those dependent on government patronage.
Anyone advocating smaller government and lower taxes is naturally opposed to patronage and thus is an existential threat to their meal ticket.

Yes I did catch that. Some 15 or so years ago, when David Frum was still in the conservative camp, I heard him speak at a CIVITAS or Manning conference (I forget which one). For him to hold, say, moderate conservative values back then, and then become a Hillary Clinton/Joe Biden supporter in recent years is treason. People harp on Biden’s senility (so true), but his past record is that of a very left-wing politician. Look at Biden’s hard-left policies as president. And Frum and other former neocons support him?
President Trump urged supporters to take the vaccine.
What else is good according to Trump? “(The Clintons) are good people.”
If Trump tells you something is good, e.g. vaccines, don’t take a jab, take a pinch of salt.

Maybe they have arranged things so that they need to keep getting booster shots and more covid sickness increasingly until they reach and obtain the final solution. The reason they are pushing so hard to force folk to get the goo, is because as this truth about the reality of the not vaccine rises, and people see that truth, then their plans are exposed, and they really don’t want that to happen, cuz the peasants might get a tad upset.

But there’s still much work to be done – There are those who work behind the scenes that pose a much bigger threat in my opinion. Washington Free Beacon being one example who tout themselves as middle of the road conservatism yet went out of their way to hire Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research on Trump and other Republicans. Now why on Earth would a “conservative publication” do such a thing??
Is it because one of the founders of the Free Beacon, Matthew Continetti is Bill Kristol’s son in law? I guess we’ll never know.
