Simone Biles “withdraws” (read: got fired) from team competition because of ‘mental issues’ … famous mixed-race tennis ace #1 world ranked Naomi Osaka LOST to a #42 rated tennis player. Oh … and that black runner who needed some ganja to even herself out and got bounced from the Olympics.

    It seems that woke American businesses needs to choose their “equitable” advertising personalities a bit more carefully i.e. have them tested for mental problems.

    Oh! And the kneeling American women’s soccer team draws 0-0 with nobodies from Australia … barely squeeking by into the next round. And there are no more ‘nobody’ teams left to play. Seems the purple-haired dyke isn’t quite as good as advertised.

      The cbc tell us they are in crisis for this very reason. No viewers = no advertisers. They’ve tied themselves to the 5 ring circus that is turning into a disaster. Looks good on ’em.

Where nobody will go watch them play (awkwardly). Where the stadium will have the lights turned down, so that the stands are all blacked out … so you won’t see the empty seats. MOSTLY empty seats.

  6. Sure, we know how much you really, really, really, really, really want to believe that the low ratings for the Tokyo games are due entirely to people being turned off by “woke” athletes.

    But we also both know that you know—not even that deep down, but enough that you’d be loath to admit it publicly—that this isn’t anywhere near the case in reality.

    The real reasons — the fact that this year’s games are taking place in the GMT+9 time zone, cable-cutting and changes in media consumption habits in general, there’s a global pandemic on, etc. — simply don’t fit your narrative. And so, as always, you do exactly what you otherwise accuse media and political “liberal elites” of doing — ignore inconvenient facts and spin, spin, spin.

      The Tokyo Olympics aren’t an outlier.

      We know how much you really, really, really, really, really want to believe that small-c conservatives, the centre-right, the politically unaware and flyover country are a tiny irrelevant majority, but they’re not. They outnumber the wokesters by an order of magnitude, and they’re starting to tune out from the propaganda.

      1. It’s complicated but unless you’re the NFL your ratings are down. Some of it is cable cutting (that’s probably 10% right there), some of it is media fractioning, some of it is the aesthetics of the sports themselves, and I do think that some of it has to do with people walking away from the politics of the various leagues. The time zone reasoning with regards to the Olympics isn’t that big of an issue as showing taped events has never really hurt NBC in the past.
        Thing is that even if the Olympics do poorly they still do well as sports blow away pretty much everything else in terms of viewers. All the content providers are starving for live tv they can sell ads on. Just look at what USA and Fox paid WWE for RAW and Smackdown. AEW has won cable nights for TBS. Live sports, even pro wrestling, are well worth the money.

        Yeah, exactly. That’s my point, covered under “changes in media consumption habits in general”. Sports viewership has been trending down long before Kaepernick took a knee. So the “woke” argument simply doesn’t fly, as much as some folks here desperately want/need it to.

        Apparently, even horse racing viewership has been trending down, when comparing across years with (or without) viable Triple Crown potential. Have thoroughbreds started taking a knee too? Too many social justice warriors among the old money set?

  7. Meh, it’s the only differentiated, live content that they can sell ads for other than news, so the networks will keep spending big money on sports cause the viewership is still better than for virtually anything else.
    I’ve been watching some cause I’m on a weird work schedule and I don’t find it terribly ‘woke’ or overtly political. In Canada, there is a lot of coverage of the women’s events but that’s cause those are the events in which we have competitors and contenders. Not sure what has happened to our mens’ programs as a collective but when the women are the only ones winning medals then the networks are going to show them.
