  1. I’d be like, “got google translate on my phone, good to go!”
Wonder what the reactions would be?

  2. “In her entire career as a diplomat for Canada, has she never felt the need?” tweeted Françoise Boivin, a former member of the House of Commons.

Apparently not, and this shows how unimportant being Francophone is in the outside world.

    1. Exactly!

Sanskrit would be a more useful and culturally enriching language to learn.

  3. Have you noticed that NONE of our media has reported that all the Covid infections ARE from everyone ‘fully vaccinated”.
Just reporting how many are infected. That whole place is like supposed to be EVERYONE is vaccinated. The corrupted media doesn’t want to show that this vaccination doesn’t work.

  4. Ha! Racist “settlers” demanding that a Turtle Islander speak a non-TI language….

      1. Aboriginal > settler–always. It worked for Liz Warren, didn’t it?

  5. The francophones must have their way or they will throw a national tantrum … again.

Mary Simon was hired for really one reason only and we all know it.

Sorry, Quebec. Better luck next time.

Say – have they found out who burned and/or vandalised churches yet?

  6. I guess the Spawn will have to reach deeper into his crab bucket (of identity politics) and find a more entitled (qualifications are irrelevant) candidate. Gerald has probably given him a list of essential attributes such as: Vagina (or pretense to one), Native Indian for bonus points, handicapped for more points, definitely francophone this time, Woke, LGBQRTSUV…again bonus points. The task is likely too difficult for the Spawn so maybe Katie or someone could help him.

It will be a shame if Mary Simon misses out on the multimillion dollar GG lotto but Quebec still rules the deranged dominion and being able to speak a near useless and insignificant language is still a requirement for federal governance.

    1. Handicapped should not be on your list. No one ever supports the handicapped. They are politically irrelevant.

      1. @LindaL:
I think the handicapped(mentally) are already well represented in politics. ie: woke liberals, NDP, Green.

    2. John C

even the “church”, which ruled qweerbek till about 1960, uses latin, and not frog!

  7. Mary Simon can answer their queries in Inuktitut; a Canadian language around for at least the last 5000 years! 🙂

    Cheers

    Hans Rupprecht, Commander in Chief

    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  8. This phrase “launches an investigation” is approaching tongue-in-cheek status like, inter alia, “experts say”.

  9. Fwenchie is pissed (but secretly he’s laughing).

It was a colossal blunder by the Bong. Not able to speak fwench? That is the First Requirement for the job. The quebekkers will not let this go and it will cost the libranos votes.

An unforced error if there ever was one.

    1. ab, “It was a colossal blunder by the Bong.”
As all his blunders have been, but like Teflon on ice he continues to skate!

  10. Likely the only way she doesn’t become GG a week from now is if she voluntarily withdraws. Personally, I don’t think she will.

That being said, I bet Canadian taxpayers will be footing the bill for her French lessons.

But this does make a mockery of the whole “You should speak both official languages in order to be employable by the federal government, because otherwise you don’t have much of a chance” spiel that’s been doing on for decades. She was the ambassador to Denmark, which is a pretty nice posting, and it’s obvious the Danes didn’t care if she spoke French or not; neither did the Foreign Affairs department.

  11. Many years ago my French Immersion educated son, about 6 or 7 years old at the time, was flipping tv channels and he landed on some CBC program where Jean Chretien was speaking in the House. Junior asks me “Who’s that?” and I responded it was the PM. He was speaking English at the time when I commented his English wasn’t that good. As soon as I said this the Shawinigan Bandit switch to the other official language to which Junior responded, “His French isn’t too good either”. Can’t fault the brutal honesty of children!

    1. It used to be fashionable to pretend that Stephen Harper spoke French badly (he was perfectly competent with an obvious non-native speaker accent). On at least one occasion, some commenter here asserted that Chretien spoke English better than Harper spoke French. Of course Harper’s French was incomparably better than Chretien’s English, and indeed noticeably better than Chretien ‘s French. Chretien couldn’t bloody talk.

  12. I can speak airport security guard French: “Good morning Bonjer!”

Where do I apply for the GG job?

  13. New GG can reply,Dose Quebecers no speak French either, whats duh problem?
Hopefully she uses a Translation service that defaults to Parisian French..
    More exploding heads.

  14. Seeing as only 12% of the population can s\peak the frenching and the English its not surprising that the pool is so small.
The white su\premacist french talkers have to control everything after all, “this country it belongs to us”… Juthtin Turdhole… it sure does Turdhole, your Daddy made sure the country was institutionally bigoted. Congratulations.

  15. She will not be able to learn French.

She is 73, she is too old. It is too late.

I would know, I learned to speak English when I was a teenager and it took me over 15 years to become fluent.

Also, French is way more complex ( and less efficient ) than English, it is harder to learn French than English, I would know, my first language is French.

French is a strange and complicated language, every object ( tables, chairs, rocks, limbs) is either masculine or feminine, we conjugate verbs in 13 yes 13 tense, and so on and so forth…it usually takes almost twice as many words in French to say the same in English.

She may read card in French with a super thick accent (and oftenclumsily mispronounce words), but she will never speak French.

    Never.

    1. @CanadianFriend:
Regarding “every object ( tables, chairs, rocks, limbs) is either masculine or feminine”, Wait, what? What about trans, bi, confused? The French language is bigoted for recognizing only two genders. I am so offended. WAAAAHHH Ban French, cancel French!!!

    2. for the record,

I do not care if she does not speak French

I am just saying French is not easy to learn.

  16. L – The Governor-General of Canada is Commander of the Canadian Armed Forces. In the
event of being called on to defend Canada from enemies foreign and domestically infiltrated.

Okay, okay, under a Trudeau government the defend part is not a credible scenario…

  17. Complaints?

Well rightly so! After all, we know just how much the Queen’s rep is revered by the average Quebecer … especially those filing the complaints!

And don’t give me the excuse that it’s just becoming so *&^%$#g hard to get all the boxes checked!

  18. Francisco wrote “Sometimes it feels like Quebec invented the “woke” movement.”

Actually it feels more like Quebec is the only place in the country where there is any actual pushback against wokeness.

This article from today’s Journal makes the good point that the reason the elderly guardians of our culture cave to wokeness so quickly and cravenly is to appear hip and youthful to the junior league woketards pushing all this crap:

“Do you know what is saddest about this surge of woke silliness ?

Not the fact that universities are plagued by this new mutation of the radical left, no.

The social science departments of our universities have always been incubators of mind-boggling theses.

Think of the fashion of Maoism, which took all campuses by storm in the 1960s.

No, the saddest thing is that the guardians of our cultural institutions are falling for it.

That men and women over 50, who should have seen snowjobs before – so, one would imagine immune for the rest of their lives to this kind of post-adolescent virus – obediently swallow the poisoned Kool-Aid of this New Religion.

Without complaining. And with a smile.

The men and women who run our cultural institutions kneel before the woke altar because they have an excruciating fear of appearing old to young people.

Woke religion is their Botox, their fake breasts.

    Their little blue pill.

The jet black dye that they apply once a week to their gray hair.

“Look, young people! We may be 55 and we may be paunchy, but we’re cool! ”

For the world to function properly, it takes young and old.

Young people pushing hard on the accelerator. And old people who put the brakes to prevent the train from derailing.

Young people who want to make a clean sweep. And the old people who make sure that the revolutionaries do not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The yin and the yang. The left and the right.

However, in our cultural world, the old have abdicated their role of safeguards.

In order to show the youngest that they are “still with it” and that their years of experience have not yet made them sclerotic, they put it back, and press even harder than the young people on the accelerator!

My God, protect us from adults who are afraid of becoming authority figures…”

    1. I may be the only one, but I agree with you. Quebec has more pushback against crazy than anywhere else in Canada.

Also agree with the commenters who enjoy seeing Justin make these unforced errors.

      1. Gotta laugh at blackface. He’s now so focused on pushing the indigenous agenda that he completely forgot about
the french agenda. Of course it’s asking a lot to expect the moron to think on any level except the emotional level.

  19. Language advisory:
Please don’t use the word “settlers” even ironically.
Every use, even sarcastic ones, helps give the word more currency.
NEVER use the hard left’s lunatic words and phrases.
One more: never say “transwoman”; say biological male.
    &c.

  20. Noticed how Puss ‘N’ Boots innocuously pointed out Ms.Simon attended a day school who committed the sin of not teaching French, because, hey, “that’s the reality”, in other words, that’s just the way it was back then or to put a finer point on it…administrators had the student’s best interest at heart but didn’t feel the French language was a cultural benefit to those who live near the 60th parallel. Hmmmmm…interesting. So no tugging at our forelocks in existential angst for the sins of our fathers on this one I guess. Sacre bleu!!!
Ms.Simon attended a Fed funded Anglican run Indian day school in Fort Chimo in the fifties (also named in a class action lawsuit), as opposed to those evil Fed funded residential schools where we’re told Snidely Whiplash administrators plotted genocide.
What gets scant mention from anyone is that Federales paid out huge compensation payouts to Indian Day school students where the supposed abuses at the time were described as “just the same as residential schools if not worse”. The only difference being the kids went home at the end of the day”.

Nice to see that Ms. Simon ploughed ahead, rose above the fray to take her seat at the trough. Well done!!!
The only thing that’d make me happier is “Simon says…”why the F should I learn a language no one uses?”

  21. Working in northern Quebec a decade ago, I used English with our Cree partners, and Alberta high school French with the drillers from the Abitibi. One day one of our Cree helpers, in a discussion on language, noted that ‘they don’t speak French. Not can’t speak French. Don’t speak French’.

  22. The craven and abject capitulation of the English-speaking majority in Canada to the chauvinistic Francophones has been an ongoing disaster for Canada and the rest of us in the civilised world. It gave us multiculturalism, the demon seed of our own destruction. Thanks.
