Missing in all of the headlines is Trudeau visiting an unmarked grave with his teddy bear.
I wonder how many ‘unmarked’ graves still exist in Europe today after two world wars.
On a side note two of my grandparents lie in an unmarked grave in a cemetery in a large British city. Unmarked because the family at the time didn’t have enough money to erect a marker. I wanted to erect a marker but as a great grandchild I have to jump through an inordinate amount of hoops and tape to do this made more complicated by living in Canada. When I visited the cemetery I was embarrassed by the condition of the graveyard, toppled and broken markers, overgrown by trees and bushes, and used as a dog walk and as a dumping ground. This in a large major city in Britain, so don’t talk to me about Indigenous unmarked graves.
