The late Jeffrey Epstein emerges as the decade’s most unlikely hero, saving the planet from Bill Gates;

Jeffrey Epstein suggested Bill Gates should leave his wife Melinda during dozens of meetings at the convicted pedophile’s $77million Manhattan townhouse, according to a person who attended the ‘men’s club’-style get-togethers.

Gates’ visits to Epstein’s ‘lair’ were an escape from his unhappy marriage, and the pair ‘were very close’, a source told The Daily Beast.

The report alleges the pair’s friendship blurred personal and professional lines, and was much closer than Gates had previously admitted.

  3. Gates is viewed as some sort of high tech genius but that is far from accurate. Gates has been described as a putz , which isn’t totally fair as the guy is very cunning.

    When IBM first produced the IBM-PC in 1980 , they were looking for an OS (operating system) and they sent two IBM guys out to visit Gates and Gary Killdall who had an OS called CP/M. First they went to see Gates and he was peddling BASIC (software interpreter) and they weren’t interested , so the IBM guys went to see Killdall but he was out and they tried to get an agreement with his wife and lawyer , but they gave up after several hours of not even agreeing on a non-disclosure agreement.

    The two IBM guys returned to the airport and realized they would be shafted if they returned home empty handed , so they called Gates again. This time Gates had an epiphany he offered up an OS .. which he didn’t have , so the IBM guys went home. Gates bought QDOS for $50K and renamed it MS-DOS.

    Gates tried to sell MS-DOS to IBM for $250K , but IBM wanted a software license .. and so Microsoft was begun and the rest is history. If IBM had actually purchased MS-DOS outright , Gates would be a nobody today. So much for his early business savvy.

    That said Gates is cunning control freak and may even be a psychopath. One of Kate’s posts a few weeks ago is a good analogy of how Gates views the peasants .. and he is definitely not the worm.

    2. You missed out the part where Bill Gates mother, Mary Gates, was pals with John Opel, who was Chairman of IBM. They were both members of the board of United Way of King County.
      Mary Maxwell Gates herself came from a long lineage of connected people.

    3. I saw some of this first-hand. I worked for a French workstation company which built VME based systems which would run System V Unix or one several real-time operating systems. To sell any computer you need applications. Part of my job was looking for suitable applications and helping them port these to our system.

      We were talking to a company in Berkley, who had a SQL database. Things were going well for them, they were selling a lot on Windows, and they were telling us how much help they were getting from Microsoft in porting and integrating with Windows. Even going as far as having a few Microsoft engineers working on their source code to better integrate. They wanted to get that finished, they were very interested in making the next port to our system. We set up a follow-up meeting a few months out.

      We flew back to CA to visit them. The office was pretty empty. The company owner was one unhappy camper. His company was finished. They had laid off most of the staff the week before. Seems that Microsoft had a new product, SQLServer, which was a direct competitor with their product, was binary compatible, so people could move their databases over with minimal disruption, and, of course, for the next few months, this was practically free.

      They had taken a look, and come to the conclusion that the code was pretty much theirs, with a few bells and whistles, but of course, no way to prove it, and no way this small company could afford a legal fight with Microsoft.

        Happens all the time. There was a really hi-tech company in Waterloo Ontario Canada that had spun off from guys at UW and they had comm products that were better than some of Cisco , and a definite threat to Cisco.

        Cisco offered them some sort of agreement which the Waterloo guys thought was to be some form of partnership. Cisco took the IP they wanted (they actually paid for it) and threw the rest overboard. The Waterloo CEO was in tears explaining why the company was dead and all the jobs were gone.

  11. Heard on the late night radio the other night that he did not leave the Microsoft board voluntarily. It is coming out that he was booted from the board while they investigated an inappropriate sexual relationship with with an employee.

    I wonder who he pissed off, because he was always portrayed as an autistic nerd that just loved great software, and now even old stories of debauched parties from the early days of Microsoft are coming out now.

    1. I was passing through the Seattle-Tacoma Airport when the announcement was made that Gates stepped down as head of MicroSlop, which was in early 2000. All the terminal’s TVs carried the news ad nauseum because the programming cycle on that system was about 15 minutes, sandwiched in between those insufferable ads for their local coffee.

      All that didn’t make my hours-long stopover any easier as SeaTac is a boring airport.

          Yeah, I know, “Why is he no longer useful?” There are a number of usual suspects and we’ll probably never know which, but I’ll go with “Just getting to be too much of a loose cannon in his old age.”

          I don’t expect he’ll be stripped down to nothing, just enough to only be able to cause minimal trouble while being reminded of his place as the puppet. That’s why he had to marry a horse face girl from the office, he wasn’t allowed to “marry into the family.” They knew all the way back then that this would come, that he wasn’t the right stuff long term.
