26 Replies to “Why We Need Rapid Tests”

  1. Do we test for flu? Polio? Dengue Fever? Typhus? No? All of these occur at some point in the world, and we don’t test people for those. We voluntarily have people tested for STDs – we don’t force people to be tested for those either. So why are we testing asymptomatic people (people with no visible symptoms) for a disease with a very low death rate? And rapid testing is not without its faults and is not a guarantee of a correct diagnosis, just like PCR.

    1. Because there is a long incubation during which an infected person can spread the virus, but is asymptomatic. This worked in Taiwan.

    2. Cheap testing will result in needing a negative to leave your house. What you need is to end the fear.

  2. Never happen in New Brunswick, where the government allows me to test myself for prostate cancer, but I need a registered nurse to take a snot swab. This pandemic is more about union jobs, than it is about health care.

    1. You maybe right on the unions jobs, yet not all nurses work under a union.
Or it could be, the CDC has no idea what they are doing. Just like they didn’t back in the 1980’s during the AIDs mess.

  3. “Voluntary” is implicit with the rapid tests but very well lets make it explicit. Widely available, cheap, and VOLUNTARY rapid tests that you buy yourself and do in your own home, business, gym or wherever is a far superior option to what’s going on right now or anything else that’s been proposed. No one says its perfect but its a hell of a lot better than the status quo.

  4. A nod to Codex and Chris – both good comments.

I read through that PNAS Article and noted they used the PCR test, yet no mention of the number of cycles. Why.?

“..why are we testing asymptomatic people (people with no visible symptoms) for a disease with a very low death rate?..” INDEED. Why..? I have not been tested and have no intention to do so in the future. One wonders how many extra folks have been hired simply for testing purposes – ON GOVT Payroll.

And For What.?? Something I most likely carry some or full immunity from..?? yea, well I’ve got better things to do than joining the HERD of NPC’s, Karens n Kevins.

Ya wanna test the entire population.?? Hand out boxes of the Quickie ones for FREE…otherwise utilize the “anal principal”.

  5. Rapid testing at airports would eliminate the 3-day wait time in overly expensive gulag hotels. Make it happen, stupid Trudeau.

  6. Does this make any sense?

“Any virus that’s being picked up beyond 25 cycles is probably left over genetic material from dead virus, Bullard says. “But that doesn’t mean it’s a false positive, or that it’s not important to find people, still.” Regardless of the number of cycles, RT-PCR has a 99.8 per cent specificity, meaning it is hugely unlikely to show a false positive, or tag someone without the virus as having the virus.”

It sounds like disingenuous WuFlu gobbledygook to me.

    1. He’s an idiot. Kary Mullis would smack him in the head were he still alive.
Just because you possess relevant genetic material doesn’t mean that YOU were infected! All it means it you may have been in the presence of someone who was infected or who was in the presence of someone who was infected, and they were shedding genetic material, which you picked up. The excessively high number of cycles being used for Covid-PCR virtually guarantees that such events would be detected and counted as “cases”.

I heard someone claim that they called Lifelabs and asked about PCR cycles and they were told that Lifelabs routinely does 40-44 cycles on Covid tests.

    Alberta’s testing program for COVID-19
    …….

“Q: How many cycles are used in the amplification process, and what is the cut-off threshold for determining a positive result?

A: The number of amplification cycles required to determine whether a COVID-19 sample is positive generally ranges from 15 to 35 cycles, but the threshold is dependent on many factors specific to each test platform, the equipment being used, as well as the quality of the samples being tested.”

“All COVID-19 tests in Saskatchewan are interpreted according to their IFU (instructions for use/ manufacturer’s recommendations) which are approved by Health Canada. The number of cycles (number of times sample viral RNA (ribonucleic acid) need to be amplified to reach a detectable level) depends of the assay (test) but the general standard for most PCRs is to go through 40 cycles. The actual threshold for positive versus indeterminate are chosen based on validations and vary assay to assay based on the clinical performance. Our lab staff meet the highest standards possible and work very hard every day to ensure quality control and that results are accurate.”

“At PHO, we have developed a PCR test in our lab, with positive and negative cutoff points. The cutoff point for a positive result for PHO’s developed lab test is 38 cycles. This means that if the virus is found at or before 38 cycles are completed, then the test is considered positive. The cutoff point for a negative result is 40 cycles. ”

Is it disinformation if you take it from the government websites?

  8. Here’s part of an e-mail I received this morning from Dr. friend of mine in Florida

Florida — and the U.S. — has a surplus of vaccines. We can’t give it away. Go figure ! It’s available almost everywhere for the asking now.—drug stores, supermarkets, parking lot sites, etc

And now Ontario wants to lash things down until the magic number is 1000…..bollocks!

  9. This is an inside job, a circle of jerks, orchestrated Chinese misinformation. Tried and true for power. Just ask DeMarxists.
Their job was to ensure we’re never informed about this virus’ origins, to put a Chinese wall around the pathogenic data.

Fauci’s agency gave $76K to WI. Whatever; sensing bigger fish to fry, but adds speculation to his seasonal masks comment. Does he know more about this virus than he’s letting on, or simply the personification of our throw shit at the wall leadership?

If you keep getting away with projecting mendacity and enhancing power, why should the dictatorship of the proletariat end?
It won’t end unless the popular will of the people stops it. But instead we’re pampered proteges of the great reset lockdowns.
With no money in the kitty, the piggy bank already smashed; everywhere. Credit tightening as we speak; everywhere.

Check out the yield curve today. What event will trigger higher interest rates? A credit crisis? Inflation finally set loose? Fiscal policy from central banks? A war as the world realizes they’ve found a POTUS even weaker than Obama on foreign policy?

How about all of the above, and then some. A science guy explained the oligarchic chip industry, shortages and price run-ups.
All of that across the economy (bought lumber lately?) with lower inventories unable to recover with shuttered production.

We were heading to demographic stormy waters already, a man named Harper told us, and he warned about “structural deficits” which every Canadian understands now, which leave our nation ill-equipped to deal with crises. The collectivists who think they’re progressives that others think they’re liberal who are de-facto Marxists are congratulating themselves on our money. What is tax? An increase in a price, Taxed stuff costs more. What is a deficit? Future taxation, with interest. Put it all together, with the Bank of Canada buying the feds’ debt, you get blood on the streets, and not just figuratively as governments desperately plumb for outgroups to blame and mistreat.

    1. “ structural deficits” which every Canadian understands now”

No, only a minority of us understand this. The rest of the Kanuckistanian sheeple are content to be parasites until the host is long past dead.

  10. Bureaucratic inertia and turf wars account for much of the delay. Requiring skilled labor to run the test means that this bureaucracy has control over the number of cases that get tested and logged. It’s all about controlling how much panic erupts in the system and making sure that only the correct types of “panic” are allowed. Widespread self-testing would mean finding out that that we have many, many more Covid cases than the official numbers indicate, and that gets in the way of narrative control.

    1. “Widespread self-testing would mean finding out that that we have many, many more Covid cases than the official numbers indicate”

Let me fix that for you.

Widespread self-testing would mean finding that we have many, many FEWER Wuhan flu cases than the official numbers indicate.

      There fixed.

  11. Community testing? Which communities do they suggest testing first?

Because they have a good idea already which “communities” contain the most superspreaders—“communities” where nobody practices basic hygiene, and that sensible people avoid like the plague (genetically engineered or otherwise) if they have any choice.

To avoid catching AIDS, all you had to do was not wittingly sleep with perverts.

To avoid catching Wuhan flu, all you have to do is keep away from vagrants and Trudeaupians. Our betters know that. That’s why they’re moving to cottage country full time and paying a king’s ransom to do it.

  12. Even better, there are now rapid quad test in the USA. Covid, influenza A, influenza B, and RSV.

  13. L – Canada lost 100,000 businesses in 2020 due to the lockdowns. Likely, that many more are at risk of closing. In Saskatchewan, the prov. gov’t. says 25,000 businesses closed. That means there likely are another 25,000 businesses hanging on by their fingernails.

RapidTests, if made widely available would allow:
    1. Businesses can do frequent testing of their employees and even where feasible, their
customers, too. In effect ending the Lockdowns for businesses.

    2. Employees would no longer have to isolate for two weeks to prove they are not infectious.
RapidTesting allows healthy employees to continue working and their businesses open, including with directly dealing with the public.

In Saskatoon, a public school night janitor was, fired or forced to resign, because a few
parents claimed he was a threat to the children. One would think the person with the
least contact with others are nigh janitors. He objected to a 2 week quarantine.

RapidTests means there is no medical basis for healthy employees to have to quarantine.
Not a night school janitor, not a police officer, not a para-medic, not a doctor, not a nurse,
none, including food production employees !

This would apply to the politicians avoiding the public, to whom they owe their jobs. Also,
they make a mockery of the Parliamentary and legislative process under current restrictions.

The 5.1 % GDP 2020 in Canada and an economic recovery, that will take 20 years or longer,
was directly due to political leaders deciding, for the first time ever, to quarantine healthy
people. Thereby damaging the economic/social activity that sustains life and health for their
    citizens.

Ordinary citizens can understand Rapid Testing destroys the specious arguments
being used to justify Lockdowns. Also, it unmasks the incompetence of those politicians and
Public Health bureaucrats imposing them ! This what they fear most, as they’d be forced
by the shear weight of public opinion to resign. That would be their public legacy!

  14. Sweden quit using the PCR test and W.H.O. said that test was “faulty”.

  15. Precisely! Rapidly Detect the Supercarriers loaded to the gills with the virus.

Uh oh … what if those Supercarriers are found to be highly concentrated in certain *ahem* … communities? Then what? Well … “those people” will refuse testing. You know … just like “those people” are refusing the white mans educational testing.

No bad cards (tests) will bring you money
So you hide them when you’re able
In the land of milk and honey
You must put them on the table

Anything that … disproportionately affects … selected communities is now immediately banned so as not to harm their … self esteem.

  16. We have a rapid test.
    Guaranteed to detect super idiots.
Called a Bull Shit Detector and we are born with it and it gets finer tuned the older we live to be.
Covid is barely a bad flu.
Dread Covid Theatre as played by our unionized helpers,is going to kill us all.
The “super spreaders”,of misinformation, hysteria and government propaganda are happy to self identify.
If we round all these culls up and banish them from our payroll and our presence,we will be free.
    And much healthier too.
