  1. It’s okay, they have a shit load of new vehicles that need computer components and can’t go anyplace anyways.
This will also make our nasty carbon emissions politicians happy as well.

  2. Boy, it’s sure a good thing that election machines are gapped and not on the internet. It’s hard to image what could happen.

  3. It’s just gotta be those phantom ‘White Supremacists’ that are the most dangerous critters known to man.

  4. Obviously the work of “Russians.”

As I type this, police too dim to quit after the framing of Derek Chauvin are on the lookout for computer programmers that they think look like Jews.

    1. No, it was the work of evil Gretchen W.
Next week, when she shuts down Pipeline #5, she will control the flow of oil and propane to the North American East Coast. Bwahahahaha!

  5. They DID say “connect critical infrastructure to the internet.” I worked in a power system (grid) control center. The computer systems there were typically customized for real-time control, and were not easily modified nor hacked. They were maintained by engineers, who knew the risk of a hack and the consequences of down time. We had an unofficial “No IT guys” policy, because IT guys did NOT understand the concept of 24/7 availability and real-time control. The 1990’s brought us the concept of an open system. Gee whiz! We can interconnect all these things and make maintenance so much easier and cheaper; just push the new operating system out to everybody. What could go wrong? The control center engineers were under intense pressure to conform, and some did. A control system vendor jumped on the bandwagon and named itself “Open Systems International.” (They are a wonderful company, by the way…very customer centric, and very good at security.) So now, here we are, with stuff all connected together and massive amounts of money spent on security. How did that last Windows 10 push go for ya? And don’t get me started on the Y2K scam.

    1. Y2K scam? If you were an engineer you would know it wasn’t a scam but an uncertainty. Transalta had 2 weeks of food stored up. CPS police couldn’t take leave. We were ready to disconnect our grid from Montana Idaho and such, to force a blackout.

I was in charge of a few folk to do a quick response if the lights went out.

No not a scam, but uncertainty.

Just like in 2038 when 32 bit runs out of time we will do it again.

  6. Zoolander will now, of course, boast of his superior forward thinking in banning both pipelines and free speech in order to protect said pipelines from hate filled cyber bullying, known to everyone as ransomware.

    1. That’s why we only have one computer for internet stuff, email nonsense, training, etc., the other dozen or so are totally separated from anything of the outside world, to operate the plant only.

      1. The same idea can be applied at home. I like bluetooth file transfers, but I hate wifi. Its all a question of footprint and control over the network. Facebook has apps that can harvest MAC addresses from anyone on the same wifi network.

    2. I worked for a brief time in a smallish 250-person office. We had a bulldog of an IT specialist who monitored every single computer connected to the company network. If you were visiting forbidden sites, or spending your day chatting or shopping on company time … he’d shut your computer down, and you’d be dragged into the Partners office.

How can such vital infrastructure not have ABSOLUTE computer use rules and monitoring?

  7. Can you imagine what the ransom demand must be? You gotta figure it’s at least $100 million, right?

Pretty sure this pipeline runs right by me about a mile south, paralleling the New Jersey Turnpike. Thinking I should fill up just in case.

  8. East coast dems getting the shaft? I thought you were into that kinda thing?

  9. Effing idiots. If you want to keep your secrets, industrial plant or compnay safe, do not put it on the intenret. Any idito can tell you that, but not the experts, apparently.

  10. Yo Gretchen – can we move that line 5 deadline up a shade? Maybe to tomorrow or Monday?
Maybe we can really impact the folks in the east and in Ontario and Quebec. Could get their attention really fast and demonstrate their ACTUAL dependence on that dreaded oil industry, eh!

    1. Maybe you should get some Alberta cops on the job. Thy’ll show us libtards! Concentrate on cities, you know, where the libtards live.

  11. Timing is off.
    3 months too late.
Now if this “hack” and extortion had taken place midwinter, these fine business persons coulda really held the company to ransom.
Seems that they have the right idea,as the only career choice that is going to pay off for the next decade or so is crime.
And the government just hates it went they have competition ..
At this point I’m supporting the internet extortionists..
At least they will spend the money on something less destructive to the rest of us,than government help.
