And Just Like That, Protests Are Cool Again

From reader RM, via email;

The intersection of Georgia and Granville sits on one of the busiest thoroughfares in and out of Downtown Vancouver. Describing this location as the “heart” of the city would not be an overstatement.

Yesterday, my wife and I happened upon a small group of protesters who had occupied this busy intersection to draw attention to the “climate emergency.”

Rather than clearing the intersection and arresting those disrupting the free movement of people and traffic, the Vancouver Police Department had instead deployed dozens of officers to secure the perimeter of the protest and effectively provide security for what would otherwise be considered an illegal blockade.

I asked one officer how many personnel from the police department were on hand, and his response was “a lot.” I then mentioned that there seemed to be more police officers than protesters at the event, and asked him if it was fair to say that the police department was the biggest participant in the protest. He had no response.

See attached images for reference. This country is a joke.

Yes, it is.

  1. Its a good thing they are not Christians, or they would have been hauled off to jail. Now that summer is approaching, I guess we can expect the traditional annual marches and blockades by indians and blacks.

if i’m not mistaken, there’s a phrase that
      describes the organs of government
doing the express bidding of their
      political masters
      rather than actually
      enforcing the law… oh yeah… it’s
      called a “police state”.

      1. Police State? Why, I did my undergraduate there! What a great school! “Go, Pigs, go!”

        1. Ah, so you’re a graduate of Police Academy, then……

  2. Climate change activists are human trash, the worst our species can produce.

  3. Those protesters want a fight and to be martyrs to their god of climate.
Maybe the police figure if they let them sit in the middle of the ring that they’ll realize how stupid they look and how ineffective the protest is and they’ll leave eventually.

Y’all aint supposed to be out of your house anyway, peasant.

    1. Oh, THAT’S why the police have no time to investigate my purse theft ….

Most recent insane BC rule: not being able to see my grandchildren, who are in a different “health authority locale”. Catch me if you can for a park/backyard visit. I am allowed visits with 2 persons.

      1. L, my sympathies. Just tell the (what color is Covid?) shirts to eff off.

  4. Marching is a weekend tradition in Calgary, such that predetermined route and “protection” is provided by the city, the endpoint always being Olympic Plaza right in front of city hall. Next to the free hotdogs from Pastor Artur.
Dont go downtown between 11:00-1:00, unless marching.
What do we want? I don’t know. When do we want it? Now.

    1. We want Kenny to stop French kissing Knothead’s ass and end the lockdowns.

    2. I always like the old favorite “Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh”. Go to any green/red/whatever demo in Canada and start up this chant to overwhelm the speaker of whatever bolderdash is being spoken.

  5. This country stopped being a joke the day it elected Juthtin Weirdeau.
That’s when it became a serious post-country while it signaled to every leftwing loon that it was open season on peace and order and to every right wing conservative that jail is waiting if you make a peep.

So who ordered the thugs to set up this Perimeter of Stupid?

  6. Obviously it was organized – indirectly – by Trudeau and his liberals.

None of those protests are grass root, if one was to investigate and dig, they would find out that the group protesting was financed by another group who is financed by another, who is financed by the liberal party.

Just as BLM and Antifa are financed indirectly by Democrats ( and by Georges Soros…who is surely financing – indirectly – some our fake grass root leftist groups here in Canada )

In Portland the Mayor had instructed police to protect BLM and Antifa…when the police goes out of its way to protect leftist protesters, it is obvious who is behind the whole thing.

  7. It’s a protected species, of course the police will do what they can to not disturb the nest.

  8. Reporter should have asked an officer why he supports the racist yellow vest movement. Just cause it’d be fun to see them all make the switch to orange vests.

  9. Where are the tickets being handed out for violation of public health orders? Oh, I forgot. Covid won’t go near climate change or BLM protests.

    1. Obviously, because there were few enough that there was no issue with maintaining proper spacing?

  10. Vest label: “Public Safety Unit”. They’re not there to enforce laws of any type.

Observation: Body language suggests they’re not enthralled to be there…hands in pockets, relaxed stances. I sincerely hope that enough of the fuzz come to the realisation that they’re being used as agents of negative disruption and start to take enough offence to do something about it, but based on history, I’m not holding my breath. Cf. The UK Met.

  11. But God help you if you insist on your right to gather to worship Him.

  12. It’s just the City Council obeying their Tides Foundation and other US Green paymasters, campaign underwriters, and mindless drones who elected them. Vancouver has a green form of Portland envy.

    1. If you want to get on City Council or the Park Board, only activist/non-profit apply. There was no normal, say business, person to vote for!

  13. Extinction Rebellion member Brent Eichler on ER’s hierachy.

“We make decisions as a group,” he said. “Today I’m a spokesperson, sometimes I’m an organizer, sometimes I’m the person carrying the flags to the action.”

(Brent)Eichler is an an internet installer by day. He’s also the president of Unifor local 950. The private sector union has long opposed the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

Um, that would be the union representing Canada’s media among others. So we have a unionized police force standing around with their thumbs up their ass watching the disruption coupled with a gaggle of city councillors who are committed environmentalists in their own right and you’ve got a trifecta of pure unadulterated “Pffftttt…we don’t give a shit about you”

And precisely why I don’t visit Vancouver anymore.

    1. UNIFOR is a fascist organization.
The file are poor useless idiots that have no say. They are completely, utterly under control of the fascists that rule over them. No dissent is allowed or you lose your living. It’s as simple as that. For now. There will by show trials and executions in near future. A public spectacles that will entertain the masses.
That’s what dicktatorship (sic) looks like.

      1. Aren’t “journalists” part of UNIFOR? How sick is that. Plus most are subsidised by justie-fek’s govt, so no real news. If the Freedom, no masks folks took over the streets, they’d be arrested quicksmart. They rally in front of the Art Gallery on Georgia Street.

  14. What? Sunshine in Vancouver?
    Drum roll. . .
for the graduating class of the Vancouver Police Academy.

    1. What? Sunshine in Vancouver?

As a former resident (or would inmate be more appropriate?), I have to agree with you.

  15. The mayor is a climate change dingbat too, of course.

Kennedy Stewart was an NDP MP before becoming the ultimate socialist mayor of Wangcouver.

He makes Moonbeam look like a piker. This is Extinction Rebellion by the way. The looniest of loons when it comes to environutters .

Surprisingly, the donut patrol did stop the freaks from shutting down Lions Gate bridge on the weekend, and detained 7 lunatics, temporarily. Then they bought them coffee and donuts, no hard feelings and all!

    1. This is Extinction Rebellion by the way. The looniest of loons when it comes to environutters .

I used to be a fan of the TV series Sherlock. Then I found out that Benedict Cumberbatch was an ER supporter. I eventually took all the DVDs of the show that I had over to Goodwill.

      1. They have quite a few celebrity heavy hitters who aren’t at all concerned about their own hypocrisy.
        That’s what we’re up against.

        1. It’s now pretty well established that it’s not hypocrisy but hierarchy. Update please!

      2. I used to think Harrison Ford was the bee’s nuts myself – right up until Mr. “I love to fly one of my planes up the coast to this burger joint I like“ started making videos for extinction rebellion.

To me he looks like any other garden-variety totalitarian now. Pure elitist scum.

        1. He certainly changed after he married what’s-her-name some 20 years ago.

  16. I’ve seen that sh1t before. Caledonia Ontario, where the OPP face -away- from the armed terrorists destroying roads, bridges and buildings. Caledonia, where the cops take bottles and rocks on the backs of their helmets as they line up to make sure the townspeople don’t say mean things to the armed Indian rioters burning tires and stealing excavators to dig up Argyle Street. Going on since 2006. Every year they go a little farther. Every year, cops protect the rioters from the townspeople.

Torontonians don’t even know there is a town named Caledonia. Don’t know that the cops -protect- rioters. Laugh when you tell them and say you’re lying. 15 years, still going.

You ignore something like that long enough, it comes and takes a dump in your front yard. Protests during a pandemic? Sure, no problem, as long as you’re a government approved protester. Indians, pipeline and climate protesters are OK.
Christians having a peaceful hour of church? No. You go to jail.
Lockdown protest against the idiocy that is Toronto? No. You go to jail.

Will Canadians wake the f- up and finally smell the corrupt police state? NO! Not even when they’re freezing in the dark and the friggin’ supermarket is empty. Because Canadians are class driven, complacent and above all, smug.

    1. Well said. Anyone familiar with years of disgraceful OPP conduct in Caledonia should be free of delusion whose side the cops are on.

  17. These climate protestors USED TO sit in intersections and link themselves together with plastic pipes on their arms to make it difficult for police to remove them. Now … the police are the ones wearing pipes on their arms … to blockade NORMAL people from harming this SPECIAL group of people.

Yes. THIS civilization WILL collapse … if we continue such idiocy.

  18. “A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.” ~ Gerald R. Ford

A government that can declare specially protected groups, can enforce any and all laws as capriciously as it wants.

Until you vote for less, this is your life. A government that can fine/jail you for misgendering, can fine/jail you for mask violations. You have to vote to end your pension. You have to vote to end free healthcare. You have to vote to end section 13. You have to vote to end the gun registry. You have to vote to end safe injection sites. You have to vote to end state media. You have to vote to cut programs. You have to vote to fire civil servants.

Until you make it smaller, it is only going to get worse. Until you will accept nothing short of shrinkage, it is only going to get worse.

The only way forward, is out.

  19. They’ll send a SWAT team to a remote church, but illegally blockading downtown actually gets police protection.

  20. Check out Stephen King’s book Mr.Mercedes, also now an awesome series on Prime. Not suggesting anything from the opening of the story as a suggestion to this….no, not at all.

  21. I think it would be enlightening to know how much is being made on overtime for police departments all across the nation.

    “Vested” interests, indeed.

    1. *
look at this from the cops point of view…
babysit the local loonies, or exchange
      fire with vancouver’s notorious and
prolific gangbangers and end up being
      prosecuted for a hate-crime.

  22. A little sleazy but Richard’s on Richard used to be an unusual place to go. Lost a guy there one night. It was his choice to go there.

  23. Yes, it would be a tragedy if Vancouver cops got defunded they perform such useful service

On the positive side, at least they are not lynching someone to death, Casino style, like they did it to Myles Gray (of course none got charged, they just refused to cooperate with investigation and walked away).

But hey let’s all instead cry about poor Chauvin.

  24. Yes but both the Mayor and Premier of BC are green zealots and so this is an officially suppoprted demonstration by the enforcement arm of the government. Don’t you dare demonstrate against swindlemills or government subsidies for the rich to buy electric vehicles, you’ll be manhandled double pronto. Demostrations against the police are acceptable though
