“What happens when…” Look at the history of China. I saw an exposition “5000 years of innovation” and I had a hard time reconciling “if they’ve been inventors for so long, then why is so much of the population so poor/downtrodden?” I think that the answer lies in how that history is portrayed: it’s not that there have been innovators for 5000 years, it’s that there have been totalitarian kleptocrats taking whatever they want for 5000 years.
Those from China that I knew in college loved the personal freedom, but didn’t seem to get it. They (apparently) couldn’t wait to get back home after school, back to the part of the world that mattered, because they would now be in a higher station. In retrospect, I think that they were fearful of not knowing their level in society in the west. The west was too chaotic, they couldn’t be sure that following the rules (including the unwritten ones about how much is allowable in milking the system outside of the written laws) would get them to their “proper level”. The idea that everyone should follow the same set of rules was laughable, though some understood that we round-eyes actually meant it when we said that all lives are valuable.

If they truly believe in all of this warming/climate change nonsense, why does our village idiot not lead by example? Let’s start with something simple like the government limiting its own use of jet fuel…no unnecessary flights. I have noticed that the Snowbirds are getting plenty of practice lately, with each jet burning about 800 litres of fuel per practice…not to mention the diesel used in the exhaust steam to make pretty smoke. A single practice burns more fuel than I use in my one vehicle in 4+ years.
With the whole variants, variants, variants shtick I doubt if we’re gonna see any airshows for some time to come and with the “end of the world” coming in 2030, the airshows shouldn’t be happening to hurry the climate armageddon along…right? /sarc
