A serious conversation for a serious country

Conrad Black has penned an important column:

Canadians should consider much more seriously than they have the implications of the charge against us and our forebears of genocide against Indigenous people. It is the most heinous charge that can be made and there is no evidence whatsoever that any Canadian authority ever advocated or imposed any policy on Natives or anyone else that was designed to eliminate or shorten lives or truly eliminate their culture. As I’ve written here before, the Native victimhood industry, pushing on an open door and frequently incited and echoed by self-hating English- and French-Canadians, has propagated the implicit notion that the presence of the Europeans in Canada was an intrusion and occupation that was morally almost indistinguishable from Hitler and Stalin’s subjugation of Poland in 1939, though not as violent. The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples recommended in 1996 that approximately one-third of all of Canada be carved out and given to the sovereign rule of the four per cent of Canadians who qualify as Indigenous people, without any burden of taxation, to be sustained for all eternity by the taxpaying residents of this country. To call things by their rightful names, this would be national suicide.

  1. It certainly seems as if Trudeau is trying to fulfill the Royal Commission recommendations as he has been trying to do put into law the IPCC decades ago report on Global Warming that has failed in their predictions.
Rather then review, they double down on bad data.
Welcome to our leaders who haven’t a clue on how to do this except by following the media like puppies.

Like Conrad points out, why is our government imposing a history that didn’t happen on Canadians?
Oh ya, gotta do what the US Democrats and the media wants

    1. I think they are following the globalists agenda– “sustainable development” goals, UNDRIP, etc. The idea is to get rid of nation states — so accurate history is not respected and the rights of aboriginals replace national interest.

    2. If our affable, naive neighbors to the North can self-destruct their whitey-white-white Euro Nation … then why can’t we Americans? Does your PM even understand that his “popularity” among America’s Left is only as a Useful Idiot? Does he know he’ll go down as the BIGGEST Useful Idiot in the History of the world?

      1. The Trudeau family (père et fils) have been working overtime to change that whitey-white character, especially on the Anglo- side, for quite a while now. I’m in my fifties and the country today is almost unrecognizable from the one I grew up in, with its largely-British culture and traditions.
Btw I truly think Trudeau believes in his own greatness. He grew up an aristocrat, raised by “the help”, in almost-unimaginable privilege. He’s the closest we have here to (demonic) Royalty, and has a cult surrounding him and using him to their own ends. He remains widely popular amongst women voters, minorities and Easterners because the folks around him (Butts, Chin, Telford et al.) are devilishly excellent in knowing how to push Canadian ‘buttons’ and vanities. While he deserves a fate similar to Roman senators who’ve fallen afoul of the Emperor, I’d settle for showing him the door of the PMO.

  2. Conrad is right, but alas, Canada is a deeply unserious country and has no desire to be anything else. I believe it would take an existential crisis or outright economic collapse to force the matter. Absent that, Canadians have the unearned luxury of continuing to indulge in their silliness and pretentiousness, all the while slowly strangling the golden goose.

We can’t vote our way out of this.

    1. “Canada is a deeply unserious country and has no desire to be anything else.” That’s what our elites have loved about the country. Facile, fraudulent, fake nationalists dominate those in the know who prefer to damn this country and praise that of others. Just like the British elite, the original model of this behaviour, their self-loathing and contempt of the culture and people around them, is a way of showing superiority over the frozen colonial outpost. Whenever the chance arises to depart for international locations they flee with great alacrity.
It is they who have the true colonial’s mind that things are bigger, brighter and of greater significance elsewhere. In this aspect they share that of the multi-culties followers in thinking Canada has, and never had, a culture of its own. But ask them to let go of the Government teat and they wail as loudly as a new born.

      1. Oh do you mean like the coming economic meltdown that is going to result from all the asinine Covid restrictions?

  3. I bet that wound bandages made out of $1,000 bills will help with the healing process…anyone notice that every 10 years or so, a new grievance is cooked up? Now, they’re even trying to resurrect the Mercury issue.

    1. Did you hear FAKE President Biden claim America needs to spend another $3T “Infrastructure” Funds on removing Lead Pipes from Wash. DC buildings? Lead Pipes!? Is this 1959? He asked what would we think if we thought all the Senators were drinking from water fountains supplied by Lead Pipes? This fraud is taking a Lead Pipe to the American people.

I never imagined my country would/could descend to this level of Hell

  4. Good essay, and thanks for posting. I appreciate Mr. Black’s forceful, direct writing.

  5. I’m no fan of the grievance industry and the genocide stuff is pure shyte.
But the civilized people who came over in the 1600’s were short, dirty and unhealthy compared to the Iroquois. They were physically inferior by a long shot.

As for the Canadian federal government and its leader, Juthtin Shit-for-brains Weirdeau, it should be deconstructed & disempowered and he should be dethroned, dismissed and then displaced to live in poverty in his homeland, Cuba.

    1. Yeah, well, those short, dirty, unhealthy, and overall physically inferior European _Untermenschen_ somehow managed to subjugate and occupy the lands of the Amerind Űbermenschen, who, at the outset anyway, had overwhelming numerical superiority and superior knowledge of the terrain . . . nor were the matchlock firearms carried by the pale, sickly, little stinkpots all that superior to the native missile weapons; battles were often settled by hand-to-hand combat. And the same script where small numbers of Europeans conquered Amerinds (who sometimes outnumbered them by multiples of 10^6, as during the conquests of the Aztec and Inca Empires) played out over the whole of the Americas, from what is now Canada to Argentina and Chile.

      1. I don’t dispute the outcome, or many vast superiorities of the Europeans and their technology, I merely state that in some comparisons, they were inferior.
We also know that upwards of 90% of natives were killed by disease and no I don’t believe brought on purpose.
The French and English didn’t bathe – I don’t know about the Spanish, Portuguese or Dutch – and had an inferior diet.

    2. The Iroquois were an exception and they still are. When I was learning history of Canada I was given actual reports written by arriving fur traders and missionaries. The first thing the Cree offered the arriving Europeans were their prostitutes for rent and they offered to outright sell them ownership of excess women prisoners as well.

    3. sorry buddy.
That POS NEEDS TO HANG….right alongside his buddies butts & telford.
      Tucker was right.
      Mussolini.
& they should ALL end precisely in an IDENTICAL manner.

One does not condone their actions by allowing this kind of FILTH to remain among the living.

  6. Canada is finished and will be broken up, it is completely unsustainable and bankrupt.
When Ottawa began centralizing all power and control into Ottawa and continually breaking all the rules of the BNA they broke the system.
Ottawa has abused and created mischief by usurping the spending power and meddling into the jurisdiction of the Provinces.
And in so doing have taken on massive national debts than can never be repaid.
Eventually they will not be able to borrow anymore and they will print until the Canadian dollar is worthless with no real purchasing power.
Canada has a very small population, but almost as much debt as half of the EU. Not sustainable. And it can not be fixed. It is not just the Natives it is also the Multicults and the French.

  7. Anything that accelerates a national suicide sounds good to me. The sooner this country is shattered into a thousand pieces the better.

  8. We had to put an end to the Indian slave trade and the numerous genocides they were involved in.

    1. Everyone should be required to read what happened to White woman captured by tribes like the Dakota, Pawnee, Apache and the rest of the Klingons. These were not nice people living in harmony with nature. And it wasn’t White who taught them this stuff. Many of the tribes, like the Mohave, welcomed the arrival of Europeans because they brought law and order and stopped things like the Apache raiding the Mohave villages for women and children to be used as sex slaves and then ransoming them back a year later when they were near death. Yes some bad things happened like the slaughter of the Ute by American soldiers but in a war, and it was a war make no mistake about that, mistakes happen. The big mistake Europeans made over and over again, and are still making today, is assuming all “Indians” are the same.

  9. Good article as usual from Black, but painfully Boomer.

His classical liberalism functions as a compromise in situations like he cites and as we’ve learned, compromises with the left only incites more abuse.

Egalitarianism, liberal democracy, lengthy explanations about how Canada once upon a time wasn’t perfect but still warrants respect, blank slate racialism, he even capitulates to the notion that one can change their sex, but not by just saying so.

Black’s “yesterday liberal” ideology is what led us here and if the rule that you follow led you to this, then of what use is the rule?

    1. Let me fix that for you: Good article as usual from Black, but painfully conservative. Black’s prose is what the (big tent) Conservative party should stand for. He’s never considered himself libertarian (classical liberal), unfortunately. O’Toole was the intended target and he scored by shooting into an empty net.

      1. I meant “classic liberal” in the more all encompassing frame regarding the attributes listed above (and in the article).

They don’t work in the long run.

      2. What I personally found with libertarians is their still closed minded to the fad of the day or they lose listeners or voices or votes. Sometimes logical but not really when you truly make them use the grey matter.

    2. Black’s an elitist and always has been. He also endorsed Shit-for-brains and said he was likeable.
Stupid Cons said Shit-for-brains was “just not ready” when they should have been saying what I and many others were: he’s a dangerous freak show and a poseur/pawn of backroom evil.
Black is part of the problem and always has been.

  10. Well, the word “serious” leaves the US out of it. We haven’t been serious about much of anything since we elected Clinton.

  11. Mass immigration from the third world is national suicide too. Unsustainable debt is national suicide. Destroying the economy in the name of trying to save ourselves from “global warming” is national suicide. It looks like we’re going to commit national suicide one way or another. Either do something about it or just accept the fact.

    1. All of these things are true. And the sham of thinking you can vote your way out is pure idiocy. Canadians have only ever elected various degrees of Liberals. From Diefenbaker to the current wonder boy who plays in his own shit we have had nothing but Liberals. Remember it was Diefenbaker who was the real Father of Socialist Medicine in Canada.
Diefenbaker made “Socialist medicare” possible. He first instituted the transfer payments to Saskatchewan for them to implement it and then set up a royal commission to study medicare under Justice Emmet Hall in 1961. The Hall Commission report in 1964 lay the foundation for a national medicare system founded on the principles of a universal, accessible, publicly administered system for all medically necessary treatment and care. Thank you Mr. Diefenbaker

  12. “one-third of all of Canada be carved out and given to the sovereign rule of the four per cent of Canadians who qualify as Indigenous people”

Good plan and its working for us. We are on our way to get Alberta back first because ranchers and oilers have showed us they are just prairie chickens. We already control BC but we let dumb whites in Vancouver pretend they do.

    1. If the natives got Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC, they would more than likely build the pipelines, loading terminals, etc. Many of the natives that I worked with and are friends of, actually like to make their own money, and know what’s needed to do so.

    2. Jimmy, you left out ” without any burden of taxation, to be sustained for all eternity by the taxpaying residents of this country”.

I’m sure you and the rest of the “Indigenous people” like that idea but there is a limit to what the taxpaying residents of this country will put up with. We’re so nice, so polite, so accommodating and will accept a lot of shyte but not that much.

    3. Too bad for you that in another few generations there won’t be enough pure blooded Indians to fill a bus (and they won’t be the chiefs). Your tribe is being literally screwed out of existence by all the others. When we are all “Indians” (just one drop to qualify) there are none. Crab bucket politics is a bitch!

  13. As an American, I can state with absolute assurance founded on the mere fact of my existence that genocide is and was a good thing, it is and was a good idea, the goddamned scalping raping stinking greasy redskins deserved everything they got, and the only mistake we made was not to finish ’em off.

I like existing, I like my country existing, even with all the problems cropping up today it’s better that both it and I exist and existed rather than never existed at all, and if the price was the destruction of a continent full of stone age barbarians, I have zero problem with that and nobody else should either.

Except maybe for the barbarians. But they’re dead, so nobody cares about them, and anybody who says otherwise is lying.

    1. You won’t get many bites Rollory. Your bait is to blatant. So get whoever it is you’re fronting for to send you back to trolling school.

  14. “one-third of all of Canada be carved out and given to the sovereign rule of the four per cent of Canadians who qualify as Indigenous people”

To even publicly debate such a thing would be political suicide. As stupid as Canadians are, they would never allow it.
Especially not the non-White Canadians. Never happen.

  15. …. and this is what conservative argument looks like.

The so called ‘Conservatives’ with their leader probably have no capacity to understand a word of it.
These idiots are competing with the so called ‘Liberals’ to out stupid stupid.

It is good to see that actual conservative ideas get printed in a major newspaper.

Now await the barrage of bullshit the woke, socialists, fascists and assorted totalitarians are going to heap on the author. He though has an advantage that they can’t argue about one thing he’s written about so they will just call him name and one suspects that he can handle that much like Trump.
