After a year of lockdowns, things are starting to look a lot like a famous cartoon involving Charlie Brown, Lucy and a football. It’s just not nearly as funny when it happens for real.
The policy could best be described as barbaric.
Residents of Ontario’s long-term care homes begged on Tuesday to be allowed outside, saying anti-pandemic restrictions that have confined them indoors for more than a year make no sense given almost all have now been vaccinated.
Coming from the CBC, the news item naturally tries to blame the policy on for-profit senior care, whereas the reality is that the central planners have little interest in identifying an end game for their failing strategies.
If those long term patients do not get a good dose of sun they are going to be very short on vitamin D3 – essential part of their immune systems in dealing with any virus.
They have to keep us pinned down till the chinese have it perfected..lol
Don’t get me going; I dispise governments’ policies; it is not at all clear to me what they are trying to achieve with this rabid incompetence; with this need to be seen to do something, while making things worse. They screwed up in the beginning and cannot now admit to error, otherwise lawsuites and guilt will follow.
Wondering if there are human rights lawyers willing to sue on behalf of these poor residents?
There’s a 0.5% chance of dying from COVID-19 … so you must ALL stay indoors, and avoid all human contact.
No wonder these people want mathematics to be dumped as a “racist” invention. Simple math reveals these LOCKDOWNS make no sense whatsoever.
I suppose they fear that the elderly might not be able to take the blistering heat of global warming. It was darned near 10 degrees here today.

Karen is quite enjoying having an excuse not to visit the mother-in-law she insisted on having shut up in the home as soon as an excuse could be found to do it.
What’s Karen’s endgame? Bringing forward the day Mom dies of a broken heart and Karen gets her payday—to be devoted, no doubt, to:
1. Unnecessary “home improvement” projects intended solely to make Karen look fashionable on social media.
2. Fancy furniture Karen’s untrained “fur children” will quickly destroy.
3. Raiding the LCBO for the ingredients of the fancy cocktails Karen has developed quite a taste for over the past year spent at home with a couple of hours’ worth of work a day, at most, to do at her make-work government job.
Nailed that.
Out west, the Karen was described – back in the day – as the California daughter who would fly in, publicly decry (preferably to a credulous reporter who would publish same) the conditions which her loved ones were experiencing in their nursing homes, and fly back home without in any way having bettered the lot of her “loved ones”.
Was reminiscing with an offspring as to how we handled her Granny’s stay at the local long-term care facility. Granny was visited daily, and at times more often when grandchildren popped in. Still remember the formal meeting with supervisors: sib who lived elsewhere was very gracious and thankful; our side had the grandchildren who were all professionals and who were all obviously not so thankful. We had reason.
Same old human nature.

No visiting, just stay indoors! You may only go out to shop for essentials. And the government gets to identify the ‘essentials’. I am told that the previous ‘essentials’ temporarily did NOT include diapers, amongst many other things. There is a nightly curfew commencing at 8 PM. If you are working overtime, you had damn well be an essential worker.

In the US for good or bad we have a habit of shooting our Presidents. Some died some didn’t. Trudeau will kill you or arrest you, just give him time because there is no power he won’t grab and use against you. Time for our brothers north of the border to send a message that you won’t tolerate Fascist leaders. I don’t see any other way out – it’s way too late. It’s better here in the States as 14 Republican states are now open and the crap has stopped. So many people are leaving blue stats for red ones. At least we have a choice.

We had a window visit with my mother-in-law in LTC yesterday, our first “face-to-face” since last fall. Our last real visit was Christmas 2019. We’ve had video visits, but they are not the same. It was heartbreaking to see the decline. She is bloated and overweight, has dark circles under her eyes, and hasn’t had a haircut. She couldn’t remember my name. As someone mentioned elsewhere, LTC is pretty much a hospice and that appears to be the case with my MIL. On the drive home I asked my husband, “What is the answer? We want to protect the most vulnerable, but we’re slowly killing them in LTC isolation.” And now Ontario is headed for another four weeks of lockdown.
The bigger issue is that there were NEVER any goalposts to begin with – which allowed bureaucrats to extend restrictions for as long as they like. With more and more people becoming immune to this virus (which is what happens with ALL viruses because of vaccines, people getting and recovering from the virus and those that are just immune to begin with) AND the one benefit for socialized medicine is that provincial health departments should be able to tell you what percentage of the population (and their age groups) have received the vaccine or recovered from their positive test, there should have a long time ago been a benchmark for herd immunity. Instead we still get silly bureaucrats telling us even when everyone is vaccinated that we must wear masks, social distance etc. etc. etc
