The decline as we’ve seen it started in the early 1990s when what I think is now called CBC Music started to cut back on its classical and opera programming in favour of what was considered more “hip” and “diverse”. (Just what in the dickens is “world music”?) That downhill slide really took off as a result of the strike/walkout/lockout some 15 years ago.
Now I don’t even listen to the CBC at all.

No doubt an aficionado would be able to distinguish amongst the various drumming and voicing styles, but I cannot and changed the station. But then, I’m not enamoured of “soft rock” either.
That’s one reason I listen to SiriusXM now. I took over my father’s account when I inherited his truck and, later, the service offered on-line streaming so I added that to my computers.
