Well, back when I was young and stupid, the police were into spoiling all of the fun. Now, I am a cranky old man and, for the most part, appreciate the police .

Closing mental hospitals and not funding mandatory rehab were bad ideas too. Schizophrenics who take crystal meth are scary and need a break, detox and life skills training after being apprehended, when social workers can be helpful.
Cops are actually very helpful and completely necessary, in my experience. There may now be a bit of overkill in training, as the tactical guys are “overly revered” vs. community police. I worked for the RCMP for 3 years and they were really nice guys, maybe a bit rough around the edges, but very devoted.
The kids all think they are going to be on the committee. Because like “I’m so special and stuff”.
Police enforce the laws of the state which are now increasingly out of control. We are seeing the state making criminals out of “owning” certain items which could be used for self defense or aggression; ingesting substances not approved by the state; committing acts of free trade; etc. On this trajectory, I’m with “so what”.
That is more of a political problem. Find me a cop who enjoys fining people for not wearing a mask or having a few beers with friends.
They hate enforcing stupid laws almost as much as calls for domestic fights.
I no longer feel bad about saddling them with an unsurmountable national debt.

New Zealand many years ago had a dedicated traffic management system quite separate of the Police. The problem with that became one of human nature as they became a squad of little megalomaniacs. It was eventually disbanded and folded into the existing Police force.
Really couldn’t care less. Used to defend the police but they are now just enforcers for the petty tyrants that govern us. Let them be eaten by their leftist political masters.
Well, it would make harvesting their organs easier.
Leave them in a crime-ridden area of town with a Go-Pro stuck to their heads.
