Well I disagree here; it is possible to understand “the science” with rational thought but it takes time and effort. I don’t, for example, know much about or understand microbiology, but I can recognize when someone is arguing by analogy rather than analysis. There are a dozen or so logical falacies that we can easily spot, and most of them appear daily in the mouths of our government organs.
The two most popular by far are the omission, of fact or context or evidence and the argument from authority.
