Sen Rand Paul: “A dark blot on the history of our country”.

More: The Senate tabled an effort by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to force a vote on the constitutionality of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, but the vote offered an indicator for how Republican senators — who overwhelmingly voted for Paul’s measure — feel about the trial. […] In order to convict Trump at his trial, at least 17 Republicans will need to vote with all Democrats when the trial begins next month. Significantly, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell sided with Paul in the vote — a potential indicator that he agrees the constitutionality of impeaching a former President is in question. Paul argued after the vote that the fact that 45 Republicans sided with him “shows that impeachment is dead on arrival.”

  1. Yep, slurring Sen Cruz and Sen Hawley as the equivalent of “Reichsminister of Propaganda Goebbels”; is a sure path to UNITY! You go guy…China Joe!

National Socialists of elite partisans unite! Like that will ever happen… ha, ha, ha…

You all be BIDEN yer time…. 🙂 Incitements to violence…how about the molotov cocktails thrown at Federal Courthouses courtesy of Antifa? Sure peaceful protests…ha, ha, ha,…..!!!

Impeachment is for the CURRENT office holder; not for the former office holder.

Get a grip you unconstitutional wankers.

    Prosit!!

    1. You mean like the ANTIFA and BLM infiltrators and provocateurs bused in by the busloads that incited the crowd and lead the violence and destruction at the capital protest – the same ones the DEMS have been applauding all year?

  2. I don’t know why the question of constitutionality is not put to the Supreme Court. Perhaps it will be.

    1. Based on the past month’s SCOTUS… not so much is certain.
I think Senator Rand standing up for this is outstanding, not just because it’s a sign of strength that the Democrats are not able to be absolute “rulers”, but also to show Rand’s principles.

    2. They are hiding under their desks behind locked doors, their clerks have been briefed*, “If anybody brings any constitutional cases, we can’t hear their suit because of something something standing.”

*I see what I did there.

  3. It is time for people to get over TDS. Senator Rand Paul is doing his job. More important work is at hand, as the fall-out from the first Biden executive orders will soon create havoc.

    1. Any particular executive order you have in mind and how to proceed?

Issue number 1 is to keep free speech alive when it is being crushed all around us. The rest won’t matter.
To paraphase Gabbard: Keep speaking out publicly. This is most important thing we can do in the face of the fear and threats coming from the likes of Brennan & Schiff.

  4. Then there is this thing.
When you look at the speakers in the senate, you will find that they are talking to nobody. Noticed that many times. The place is empty.
The speeches are recorded, they are probably copied and put into the senate archives, though that seem to be end of the story.
Like there is nothing to be done. It seems as though the senate and possibly the house of representatives are exercise in nihilism.
Talk, talk, talk, very likely written by speech writers reviewed by the speaker, change to sound more monumental and other such exercises.
The speech by Paul, is of course, excellent and absolutely necessary, though what of it?
It’s like throwing peas against a wall.
When you look at the parliament in this country, the opposition can question and question until the geese come home and never get an answer. All they get is that we are doing everything for the future. To hell with today, don’t have the answers.

They, that they mistakenly call “Demokrats” have majority, never mind the constitution, they will change the rules as they go along when needed, there seem nothing that can stop them.
The idiot politicians could drive one to drink.

Full honor to the rare exceptions.

  5. His appearance on ABC with the Clinton hack and now this? Whatever Rand’s been eating the last couple of weeks pass it on to the rest of the Republicans save a few.
As I watched this I wondered how many millions of viewers of the CNNs and MSNBCs and all of our ‘news’ channels here in Canada, IF they were to see this which of course they won’t, would be dumbfounded by what he said.
“What shooting is he talking about and what’s that about Bernie Sanders?? Cory Booker didn’t say that!! I don’t remember. Kamala never talked like that. He’s gotta be making this up. He’s just a liar!! And a racist!!”

  6. It’s all Calvin Ball now. Nancy will claim if the impeachment isn’t preceding as per constitution then the other constitution rules also don’t apply either. (don’t laugh – she will come up with something) So then Dems don’t need to get the three quarters vote to do a quasi-impeachment, just a simple 51 votes and the media will publish it as a new and better kind of impeachment. The low information voter, like that matters anyway, will never know the difference and once again the big lie proceeds.
Please forgive me, it’s late – in more ways than one.

  7. Please, if at all possible, try to avoid posting links to the New York Times. Nothing in the paper, even its crossword puzzles would ever persuade me to acquiesce to their paywall, and even reading the free opening paragraph only jangles up the blood.

  8. Unfortunately, McConnell’s support of senator Paul looks like it is caused by a Rasmussen poll that showed that a Patriot Party would immediately get more votes for house and senate candidates than the Republicans would get.

  9. High foreheads at the CBC are speculating how many Republican Senators will “break ranks” in this impeachment trial. They don’t seem the least bit concerned that EVERY Democrat — representative and senator — will fall in line for this sham. Surely there are some lawyers among the Democrats. Surely they know that if you went to court charging Trump with incitement to insurrection you’d last 5 minutes then thrown out for wasting the court’s time. This process is supposed to have the sober stature of a trial.
