When I lived in Regina, the city that rhymes with fun, I don’t recall so many events that didn’t have these two crown corporations as sponsors in some way.
They were everywhere.
So, it is just energy that the City of Regina councillors have a problem with?
*Yes, switch out the “could” for “will” or “shall”.
Now watch, to compensate for the monetary loss the Regina City Council will vote to raise taxes.
The energy “could” be sent elsewhere as well.
If they have a problem with energy, they could turn off those natural gas pipelines and breaker panels bringing energy into their houses.
That word ‘could’ enables them.
When somebody punches you in the face you don’t tell them that if they do it again they could be in trouble.
You beat the hell out of them, and stop beating the hell out of them when you are ready to stop.
I learned that long ago in labor relations: When somebody wanted to do something stupid or pull some stunt I didn’t give them a ‘stop that or else’ warning.
I fed them the pain, and when they corrected their actions then I might or might not stop feeding them that pain.
Then they think a little bit before trying their next stunt.
If you always let them reset to zero they will never learn.
If they worst they suffer is being pushed back to where they started then what have they to lose by trying to pull something?
Moe should simply cut the funding from Sask Power and Sask Energy now and if Regina wants it back they will have to work damn hard to get. Cut funding immediately and don’t revisit that decision for at least a year.
That way the next time they come up with a bright idea they will think a little harder.
And that way the voters might think a little harder as well.
Moe doesn’t have the testicular fortitude to do that, like Jason Kenny he’s all talk and no action.

I have a better idea.
Demand the refund of double the money they have received for provincial energy companies over the years, on pain of all provincial subsidies being cut off until the debt is paid in full, in cash.
As the city cannot do this, the choices of the city fathers would be to either immediately declare bankruptcy or to reconsider their decision to bite down that hard on the hands that feed them.
Bouncing paycheques and eviction and foreclosure notices are only a joke when they happen to “rednecks.” God forbid a city employee wonder where her next meal is coming from.
Why does this surcharge even exist?
