    2. There’s a reason the LPC is the “natural governing party” and not the CPC, either in its present form or its past forms. It is the LPC that perfectly exploits the power structures in this country, which BY DESIGN are set up to ensure perpetual domination of all other regions of the country by ON & PQ. You cannot permanently displace the LPC without changing the power structures, and in Canada that is effectively impossible.

      The CPC will only ever be a “backup” government to be installed when the ever-present corruption of the LPC grows too foul for the populace to bear. The CPC will then serve one to two terms in either a minority or weak majority configuration, to be followed by triumphant multi-term LPC governance, backed by the NDP as necessary.

      Canada’s populace is ~65% progressive. No conservative party can be truly competitive in such an electorate. Harper managed to catch the LPC at the peak of its Chretien/Martin corruption, and also benefited from two dreadful LPC leaders and a charismatic NDP leader who further drained LPC support. None of those conditions are true, currently; the NDP leader is awful and the LPC leader is teflon. The CPC will not win power until one or both of those conditions change. Period. And even then, if & when they form government again, the CPC will lack the courage to do anything but work within the existing power structure, which perpetually favours the LPC and enables its eventual return to power.

      So with all that, if western parts of Canada ever truly want control of their own destiny, they must ultimately secede, because they will never have that in Canada except under terms acceptable to ON, PQ, and the LPC.

      It simply is what it is.

    Canadian Solar operates a 30-megawatt solar farm near Tumxuk, a small centre on the fringes of the Taklamakan Desert, 175 kilometres from the border with Kyrgyzstan. The project, financed by a loan from the China Development Bank, involved the installation of 129,600 solar modules on 100 hectares of land, roughly a quarter the size of Vancouver’s Stanley Park.

    ‘Tumxuk is home to a growing textile industry and a vocational training centre, which is situated some five kilometres from the solar park. According to a local government document, the centre’s course of study includes skills instruction as well as 126 hours a year of “moral and practical” classes in subjects such as history and religious policy.

    “We periodically do religious unity education, legal education and ‘two prohibition’ education,” the school says. The latter appears to be a reference to a ban on driving electric vehicles and motorcycles without a licence.

    “Legal education” formed a key element of instruction in political-indoctrination centres, former detainees have said.

    Not far away – 45 kilometres across a patchwork of agricultural fields – satellite imagery and procurement documents show two additional large “legal education conversion” centres, including one in a complex of five-storey apartment-style buildings. Evidence for those centres, gathered by University of British Columbia student Shawn Zhang, also includes a government tender notice for factory buildings.

    Elsewhere in China, former Muslim detainees have described being forced to work in factories for minimal wages. The Chinese government has denied the existence of forced labour; the U.S. National Security Council has accused Xinjiang of employing “modern day slavery.”

    Canadian Solar did not respond to multiple and detailed requests for comment, which included reporters visiting their headquarters in Guelph, Ont., and Suzhou, in eastern China. Attempts to call and e-mail the U.S. office failed and the U.S. e-mail box returned an automated “mailbox is full” message.

    In Suzhou, Canadian Solar occupies a large industrial property in an area dotted with factories that manufacture packaging, plastics and electronic parts. A sign inside the fence points the way to a headquarters office building, workshops, a wastewater treatment area, infrastructure projects department and research and development centre.

    A group of people sat on chairs in the company’s front lobby, engaged in a meeting. But a receptionist who contacted the company’s marketing department said no one was available for an interview.

    Canadian Solar’s website contains no commentary on Xinjiang, apart from updates on its operations. The Tumxuk project represents just 3 per cent of its total solar production holdings.

    Mr. Gladstein criticized the company for staying silent.

    Horizon Advisory, a consultancy, has found extensive evidence of the use of forced labour by solar companies in Xinjiang. Among the companies involved is GCL-Poly, one of the world’s largest producers of polysilicon, which has used “surplus labourers” in Xinjiang. That term is used to refer to people, many of them Muslim Uyghurs, deemed by the government to be in need of work.

    The placement of such workers into factories and the working conditions there are considered by critics, including the U.S. government, to constitute forced labour.

    Here is the important part. The above article doesn’t mention that Export Development Canada (EDC) has been loaning money to Canadian Solar for years. In 2017 EDC lent Canadian Solar $72-million (US) to help supply the Dubai Solar Farm with solar panels. In 2018 EDC expanded its credit facility by a greater amount. And on July 7, 2020 — when two Canadians were being held captive in China — the EDC lend the company another $75- to $100-million to the company to support direct investment abroad — i.e., the sale of solar power generation and related infrastructure services. The latter notorious transaction is posted on the EDC web site.

    Canada Solar Inc. is a murky organization. It is listed on the US NASDAQ stock exchange, but, based in Canada, it is not listed on the TSX exchange. A look at the Canada Solar Inc. web page shows that its CEO, most senior management and board of directors are Chinese. On July 27, three weeks after receiving the EDC line of credit, Canadian Solar released a press release saying that it finished a strategic review, and that it would list on two mainland China stock exchanges and would raise most of its finance capital in mainland China. A check of its August, 2020 financial disclosures says that, at the time, roughly half of its total world solar power generation was in China.

    I checked, last night, with my conacts at the G&M and Blacklock’s Reporter. Both said they did not know of the EDC involvement with Canadian Solar, but would look into it.

    The ahistorical nimrod at Van Tech, not to be unkind or doxy, is Christine McKeen; the scholar who asserted this griology is one Maya Rattrey. I am sure they are nice but they’re not scholars nor pedagogues: they’re cadres.
