Fuel shortages loom in Ontario, Quebec if Michigan’s governor succeeds in shutting down pipeline

Ontario politicians are increasingly alarmed at the prospect of thousands of job losses in the coming months and fuel shortages in the province if Michigan succeeds in shutting down Enbridge Inc.’s Line 5 pipeline.

The mayor of Sarnia, a southern Ontario city that’s home to three refineries and multiple petrochemical plants, says the city faces potentially 5,000 job losses as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has served Enbridge with notice the state is cancelling a decades old easement allowing its Line 5 pipeline, which runs from Western Canada to Michigan and southern Ontario, to cross the Straits of Mackinac through the Great Lakes.

Western Canadians can send a note of support and encouragement to the Governor here.

  1. I can think of no better outcome than Ontario and Quebec suffering from extra high fuel prices due to a “progressive” politician shutting down a pipeline.
After inflicting countless Liberal governments on the rest of Canada, it’s only fair that they freeze in the dark, laying in a bed of their own making.

      1. Yeah just think – they coulda’ had a pipeline from western Canada by now, oh wait…

        – Didn’t Quebec say they weren’t interested in dirty oil anyways? Didn’t they say they were going to do it all with renewables? Not seeing the problem here…

    1. Especially, because she doesn’t answer to them electorally or have any reason to care about how it affects them, a progressive politician in another country.

      1. Great Idea,
Drive over to Detroit Michigan, and trade that Gas Guzzling 12 miles per gallon heavy duty truck in for one of those New wonderful $75,000 dollar electric cars.
I read they now have a pulley on front, and can be used like a sled hooked to an ox team.
For faster Service, buy some horses.

        1. I wonder if they considered putting generators in the wheels? Then the generators could charge the battery as they drove, and the battery could turn the generators, and the generators could charge the battery – and they’d never need charging, they could go on forever, and ALL FOR FREE!!!

Should work as well as anything else ‘electric car’…

  2. It wont take much trust me, especially Sarnia.
Funny you don’t hear much from the Mayor, or other left leaning residents of Sarnia, until its almost too late.
The city is a shadow of what it once was, in my opinion.

  3. I hope they all freeze in the dark. You don’t like pipelines eh? Welp SHUT EM ALL DOWN then you pukes.

    1. What a terrible , nasty comment.

By which I mean, not nearly nasty or terrible enough.

Fuck them, their children, their aged parents, I curse them all and wish them death by freezing, after infinite pain, and may Satan drag their souls to Hell for infinite punishment.

Especially Catherine McKenna, fucking double for her and any spawn she may have.

  4. We’ll never wean ourselves off fossil fuel until a few more eggs are broken. Besides … it is a central tenet of CAGW that hot weather is more deadly than cold weather … so nothing to worry about

  5. Well, I guess I better buy another chord of wood.

My only real regret is that those responsible for this will not get blamed, or even suffer.

      1. “Sarnia figures there will be no financial cost to declare a climate emergency now but there will be in the future” I guess the future was only 1 year away. Too funny!

  6. I live in Toronto and have a nice Stihl 260. Should I harvest High Park or Riverdale? Make em Pay!!

    1. Bobs,
I suggest you harvest Rosedale, where Mayor John Tory grew up …nice place …lots of trees.
There are also a few trees in the vicinity (just north of) of his current home at 1 Bedford Rd. M5R 2B5.
      You’re welcome.

  7. Mugs.,that is sweet what a perfect article ,can’t believe they are that stupid but it’s obvious

  8. She lives to make people unhappy. They don’t call her Cruella DeVille just because she looks like her.

  9. While the irony is delicious, I’m sure we all know the enemy of your enemy is not your friend.
It is however an opportunity to express some good old conservative moral outrage and empathy for like minded folks who despite benefiting from coerced largesse would prefer not to.
Furthermore it’s an excellent hearts and minds opportunity which, I gather, will be squandered.

    1. Eastern mouth breathers don’t make the connection between oil supply and gas prices or even taxes and gas prices. We’re dealing with utter fools. There’s no reasoning or convincing these people. They’re forever libdippers.

  10. Can a state declare war on a country? This seems to be an act of war. On August 1, 1941, the US established an embargo on oil and gasoline exports to Japan. This lead to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor four months later.

If line 5 is shut down it will also impact economically depressed Alberta. Long line ups at gas stations in Quebec is a pleasant thought and might just be worth it.

    1. That would be the perfect time to proclaim a UDI and make overtures to the USA. Don’t be foolish and think Alberta and Saskatchewan can go it by themselves. You’ll need US tanks, troops and planes to protect your borders and airspace from military incursions from the Laurentian Elite’s forces.

  11. Premier Doug block the borders to Michigan at The Soo, Sarnia and Detroit and let Whitless lose her exports to Ontario.

  12. Godspeed Gretchen? LOL…Godspeed Mayor Mike Bradley surely.
I follow Sarnia from time to time only because I used to work there before I wised up and got out that fifth circle of Hell. Bradley is a dyed-in-the wool Liberal and the prospect of 5000 hard hats with good wage paying jobs suddenly unemployed is going to make for some jittery local politicians. If Sarnia’s economy isn’t tanked already this should be the coup de grace.
Try telling workers who are facing mortgage payments and mouths to feed that “we’re all in this together” and we need to “flatten the curve” like he’s been preaching since March.

Stock up on the food and fuel folks. It’s going to get rough.

  13. And so it escalates. Wait for cancellation of the Alberta to Montana border-crossing permit. (Biden has campaigned on that). Next, be concerned about the branch of the Trans Mountain Pipeline that feeds the Cherry Point refinery in northern Washington State. Closing that branch could help the green mafia put pressure on the Canadian government to back off on commitments to complete the expansion of the Trans Mountain line. We, (the Canadian Taxpayers) are billions of bucks into this project already, but our own federal (Liberal) government as its owner can still cancel it. I expect that the Liberals will be emboldened by the election results in the USA.
As an ex hockey player, soldier and engineer, it was a challenge for me to avoid profanity in this post.

    1. If they shut off Cherry point BC would be paying $5 a liter for gas. It’d suck for me but worth it in the long run.

  14. Add to the misery that Ford is imposing a stay-home order in Ontario for the next month, only to probably extend the crisis even longer, thereby justifying yet another lockdown, etc. etc.

  15. As someone from Ontario who wiII feeI the impact of this if it happens…..I have to say, it is aImost worth it to make some of these morons finaIIy understand that Canada is a big coId country and we need to use fossiI fueIs.

HopefuIIy, when AIberta is sending us oiI and gas from the West, it doesn’t go past our borders into Quebec. Iet them see what happens when an emergency hits, and peopIe are woefuIIy iII-prepared to deaI with it. They couId have had a direct pipeIine, but the nutters spoke the Ioudest.

    1. Alberta should impose an export tax on all oil going to Ontario and Quebec. Pay 20% more than Brent you bastards.

  16. That’s my governor. She’s making us all bleed. By the time this is done all we’ll have for restaurant s are fast food and pizza joints. We’re so screwed here in michigan.
    We’ll lose jobs too.

  17. Have been thinking of self immolation in front of Queen’s Park to protest the COVID lockdowns. Guess I’d better buy my gas sooner rather than later.

  18. Same reason why Saskatchewan and Alberta have not lobbied to stop all oil shipments by water into the port of Vancouver.

Because the so called leaders are not serious about anything except reelection, and their pensions.

  19. Yeah, except the people voting for stuff like this can afford it and the people getting hurt will get bailed out by Trudeau with AB/BC/SK tax dollars and will vote for him to keep the cash.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Joke is still on the West.

  20. The Joint Chiefs of Staff in the US have just issued an order to the combined armed forces stating that Biden will be the next President on January the 20th. Does that mean that Trump is no longer the CinC. If that is the case the Joint Chiefs have just committed treason and insurrection. If Trump has the proof that the election was rigged and he exposes that truth in the next few days, WTF do we go from there.

  21. Google “Canada oil pipeline map” and you’ll get a whole batch of maps. The “Oil Pipelines / Oil Sands Magazine” is particularly good. It seems that, while there’s an all-Canadian natural gas pipeline which goes through to both Toronto and Montréal, there is no all-Canadian oil pipeline. Oil heads south via several routes from Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, with Enbridge’s Line 5 presumably the link between the line that crosses into the US from Manitoba (into either North Dakota or Minnesota) and then goes through Wisconsin to Michigan (hadn’t realized Michigan State was split by Lake Michigan, though it’s only by a very small river) and down to cross the border (The St Clair River) into Sarnia. Hadn’t realized that Sarnia is a seriously border town, with Port Huron, Michigan, on the west bank of the river. So, should this succeed, there will be serious – if temporary – dislocation in Ontario.

However, all is not lost. There is that oil pipeline which runs from Sarnia through Ontario to Quebec. All the feds need to do is push expansion of the port at Montréal to accommodate more and bigger tankers, and keep the pipeline running from east to west (which part of it has been since the 1990s), and problem solved. As for those beleaguered belugas in the St Lawrence, they’ll just have to be sacrificed to the greater good; said good being keeping the voters of Ontario and Québec firmly in Liberal camp.

  22. “… Does that mean that Trump is no longer the CinC….” ?

No, Antenor, it means President Trump is the C-in-C now, and someone else will be C-in-Cw.e.f. 20JAN, and that someone else will in due course be succeeded by someone else again. The people who spent their life’s work climbing the career ladder in the armed services have played the internal politics of the services and sucked it up when the civil politics dealt them presidents they didn’t like before now and will continue to do that. They are not going to overturn an election just because there was significantly more cheating than in previous elections.

    1. The question posed was who do the Chiefs of Staff obey up until 20 of January. If Trump unleashes the proof of election fraud and calls them all to account, since they have already decreed that Biden is the next President, do they follow Trump’s orders or do they sit on the orders until the 20th. Inaction can also be used to perform a coup d’etat. Notice that the FBI, CIA, DOJ, and the Supreme Court have been extremely lethargic in performing their duties under Trump. You can sometimes kick a can so often down the road that you run out of road, then what?

      1. Then they’ll be at the end of the road. And they’ll sit there until the end of their careers, or the end of their lives, whichever comes first.

  23. I think It’s time for a readjustment in our thinking. I see a lot of nasty comments concerning shutting down oil supplies to Ontario and Quebec. How is a Calgary company such as Enbridge going to gain by having their pipelines shut down??
All that will happen if Cdn oil supplies run low in Eastern Canada is more imports from OPEC!! I’m sure The Saudis are already ordering more tankers!!

    1. Saudis are already ordering more tankers!!-silly boy that`s not how it works. Irvings will receive a nice cost plus contract from turdeau, overheads will of course include a kick-back to the lieberals. The maritimes will vote solidly lieberal, and canaduh will finance it all from printed money.

  24. Remember Ralph Klein (“let the eastern bums freeze in the dark”) ?. Come to think of it, there was a Turdhole in Ottywah back then, too. Well, Kenny has an opportunity to ingratiate hisself with our eastern overlords and just shut the taps off and wait a bit. The coldest part of winter here and in the US will make itself felt soon. Shut off commie BC and Washington State as well. Alberta and to a lessor extent Saskatchewan, supply ALL hydrocarbons to WA, BC, SASK, MB, ONT, Territories and a goodly chunk of Kay-f/n-bec, and I mean ALL. Look it up, I’m tired of posting it here.
Western Kan-eh-duh will be fine, just build industry here and use the fuel we have to develop western Kan-eh-duh, w/o BC. Do a deal with Alaska and Yukon and ship excess product to Asia from Valdez. A clean break is always best. Besides, it’s shorter to Asia from Valdez than it is from Horganville on the Pacific. About a week shorter. That’s not insignificant.

  26. I worked on a project for that area a few years ago – even went up for a visit and the border guard was a dick. The Sarnia border is more than an oil distribution site, it is also offers free trade goods transfer through a tunnel under the river without stops for examination. Huge value to shipping goods.
