A senior public servant at the Public Health Agency of Canada accepted an all-expenses-paid holiday to Jamaica courtesy of Air Canada Vacations in November, even as her agency has been advising Canadians since March to avoid non-essential travel to combat the spread of COVID-19.
 
Dominique Baker, the acting manager at PHAC’s Office of Border and Travel Health, flew with a friend to the upscale, all-inclusive Royalton Blue Waters resort in Montego Bay in mid-November.
 
Ms. Baker, who bills herself as a beauty, fashion and travel influencer on her off-work hours, posted a video a few hours after she arrived in Jamaica, calling the hotel suite with its own infinity pool “mind-blowing – whoa.”
 
“One of our two butlers is bringing us our pina coladas right now. No, we are not kidding – we have two butlers,” she says in the video. “Thank you, Air Canada Vacations. We are beside ourselves.”

    4. Well with one caveat…….restricting travel CAN stop a virus….but ONLY if it is done IMMEDIATELY and HARD. Like Taiwan. It knew that the China Communist Party and the W.H.O. were lying about the virus and as a result it slammed the door shut on Dec 31, 2019. As a result, it has the lowest death rate per million on the planet and it has also displayed the LOWEST “government stringency” index in regard to the virus. Consequently, Taiwan (with a population of 23.9 million) has a TOTAL of 7 deaths….yes, SEVEN. Canada, with a population of 37.9 million, has a total (so far) of 16,579 deaths. On a per million basis, the Canada death rate is almost 1.500 times higher.

      The one absolute truth regarding the Wuhan virus pandemic is this….those countries that took the advice of the corrupt W.H.O. were hit like a train…..those that ignored it (Taiwan, Vietnam and a very few others who have a guttural mistrust of China) have done very well.

      But I agree…..once a virus is well salted into the population nothing will stop it but “Farr’s Law”. And for that, Trudeau and Tam should be taken to the guillotines.

So a free vacation to the person that might have some say in whether that practice is allowed to continue unabated seems a sound investment on their part.     So, me, my wife and my sister were to travel to France and Britain in April and early May, 2020 to visit Juno Beach, Vimy, several WWI battlefields and end up back in London for VE-75 (I recognize that just about everybody around here understands the underlying historical events, wherein — unlike today — a great many people employed by the Government of Canada in the times undertook very valuable and very dangerous work for very low rates of pay, often suffering grievous injury or death).

    It is truly heartwarming to hear that our air carrier — Air Canada — has used our cash (from pre-paid tickets) so that some part-time social media “influencer” and senior pandemic issues manager for the Government of Canada could have a lovely time in Jamaica at the company’s expense. As it happens, Air Canada owes us about $3,500, along with about $2.6 billion dollars to other customers to whom they have refused to refund air fare due to Covid-related flight cancellations.

    I’m tempted to say that it’s 12-year-olds running the government and corporate Canada from top to bottom, but that might be insulting to the 12-year-olds that I know.
