  1. Happy New Year to all and to all a Good Night!!!

Let’s hope that 2021 is even 25% better than 2020.

    1. I doubt it will be when we are starting it off with f-ing lockdowns. I hate feeling as I do and anger is all I have left. I am too old to go and beat the crap out of those who desperately need a beating. I do plan on ignoring the lockdown and have a large number of family coming for dinner and drinks this afternoon.

  2. Thanks Kate & Team for making an unbelievable year bearable. Keep up the great work in 2021!

    1. All I want for 2021 is 4 more years of the GREATEST POTUS in the history of the USA. All I want is to know that the US elections from heretofore on … are NEVER stolen … ever again.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsxavPANO8s

A tournament, tournament, a tournament of Lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives … and I decline

And an end to Dear Gavin Newsom’s leftist career in the lives of Californians. As we the people of CA sing the lyric above …

A pandemic, damnpenic, a pandemic of lies
Offer me shut downs, offer me lock ups … and we decline

    1. Considering who’ll still be in charge of this country, I’m not filled with optimism.

    2. Sadly … all I foresee is a decade of pain on the horizon. A decade of chaos.

      – Pandemic shut downs, lock ups, and school’s OUT for-EVER!
      – Pandemic-styled suspension of constitutional rights
      – Big Tech censorship of Free Speech
      – Biden Puppet Theatre
      – President Harris
      – Governor Newsom … followed by POTUS Newsom
      – Supermajority Democrat Rule via permanent mail-in-Voting
      – UBI and a shift from socialism-lite to Socialism good-and-hard
      – A return to US Wars and the elimination of Israel
      – The Yuan exchange rate worse than the Canadian-to-US dollar exchange rate
      – The elimination of fossil fuels and ICE automobiles
      – Health Officials as defacto Legislators
      – The Supreme Court of Cowards

Sorry … all I want to do is spin some vintage vinyl … and remember, fondly, when America was a Free Country that incubated the greatest creativity ever on the planet.

    1. Someone needs to have T-shirts made that say say….. I survived covid and the government along with 7 billion 800 million others.

  3. Following a personal tradition, I’m watching Back to the Future right now.

I started with that when the old cable TV channel Encore Avenue showed all 3 movies in the series on December 31 a few years ago and I thought it was an appropriate way to see the old year out.

    1. Alcohol counts with me. I have my tastes but I’m open to experiment.
Money is somewhat tight lately but tonight it’s Cap’n Morgan’s Spiced Rum and Big Rock Grasshopper for the chaser.

      1. I’ve read that it kills COVID19! Hey it’s alcohol, so is the hand sanitizer! If the hand sanitizer works, drinking booze has to work too!

  4. Let’s start wearing ski goggles ( or better yet if you have them, swim goggles). Not a survival tip; Just curious how long it takes for it to become a societal norm.

    1. My wife saw a guy last week wearing a mask in the Super Store. It was one of those light blue surgical masks and he had written on it,
“Trudeau Sucks Dick!” Anyway, my wife thought that that should become a new societal norm. Writing a bit of dissent on your mask.

      1. Writing a bit of dissent on your mask.

I’ve been doing that for several weeks. Most people don’t pay attention to whatever slogans I’ve used, let alone understand them.

    2. Restaurant workers in ontario were forced to wear them (a type of safety goggle) before the latest insane shut down. Needless to say they all looked like morons.

  5. Happy New Year! (clock just changed to 12:01)
I wish you all good health, prosperity, love, and happiness for the new year and going forward.

  6. People who believe that things will be better in 2021 are going to be severely disappointed

    1. Geeze james, have you heard of the term “buzzkill”? And NO, stating the obvious isn’t a prediction, duh.

  7. Happy 2021 to all at SDA and thanks Kate for all you do.
As I have said before my day is not complete without a visit or 2, to SDA to see what the real people are thinking/doing.
    Take care all.
(Kenji – my grandkid can take your grandkid anyday! So there!)

    1. Yeah, how tough can anyone from California like Kenji be anyway, eh? Chuck Norris couldn’t stand an Alberta winter.

  8. Happy New Year to everyone and especially Kate.

I can’t believe that I have been dating your website now for 15 years.
    FIFTEEN YEARS! Holy cow!
I tell you, it’s been a slice coming here and reading the thoughts of normal people.

And just to show there is still hope and sane people in the world, here is one of them.

    https://notrickszone.com/2020/12/30/world-l-eading-engine-expert-combustion-engine-remains-the-future-hydrogen-will-be-nada/

One of my most memorable gas engine trips was on the Montana autobahn (no speed limit) when a Dodge Charger ripped past me like I was standing still. So I wanted to find out how fast he was going.
I ran my Z28 up to 6500 rpm but was limited to only 120 mph because of the 4.10 rear end.
The Charger was still pulling away. It had to be either a hemi or a 440 with longer gears to do that.
I did not get a good look at it. LOL

    Long live the gas engine.

    1. “Long live the gas engine.”

All hail the internal combustion engine, it gives us mobility and makes hippies cry.
Also all hail a mighty stick shift and a the humble clutch pedal.

    2. Rockyt, regarding the Montana autobaun. A related story.
Back in 1980, a friend and I drove down to the ADRA finals in Spokane WA. On the way back we play raced with an Olds 442, through WA, then ID and into Montana. Friend drove his 76′ GMC short box 454. We flew. Spokane to Edmonton in 11 hours, even with a 2 hour wait at the border. We waited till shift change to avoid scrutiny. What a trip.

    3. Thank you for that vote of confidence, that in this crazy world, we are the normal people. It’s true! We all deserve a happy New Year for remaining sane in challenging times, so let’s have one. All the best.

  9. “Long live the gas engine.”

Yes indeed. And God love you for loving the gas engine, Wankel or not, it’s the only powered vehicle that I want to drive. Happy New Year!

  10. Happy New Year to all,

Kate, thank you so much for hosting this awesome place for another year. We are all in your debt. I am raising a glass of Tullamore Dew in your general direction.

    1. Tullamore Dew, Irish whiskey yum yum. I started out the evening at about 3:30PM with an Irish whiskey made right here in Alberta.
Perhaps you’ve heard of it, Alberta Premium.
      https://uproxx.com/life/alberta-premium-cask-strength-rye-review/

Of course being a poor man these days, compliments of Rachel Notley, Jason Kenney and Justine Trudeau, I couldn’t afford the now famous cast strength, but I’ve been drinking the regular 40 pounders for aboot 2 years and it’s pretty fine stuff regardless.
Here’s to you, Colonialista, you’re a fine fella and one of my favorite commenters here at SDA.
an Irish Toast: May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and may you be half an hour in heaven before the Devil knows you’re dead.

      1. Thanks for kind words and a beautiful toast. Always a pleasure to read your thoughts. Will try Alberta Premium next time I visit the state owned liquor monopolist.

      2. Hear, hear! The funny thing is, it’s just Alberta premium, before they water it down and bottle it, so more people can enjoy it! Have you tried blending Alberta Premium 20yr old with the cask strength? A 70/30(cask strength) blend is delicious!
Nothing beats the Alberta Premium 30 year old, in my mind, however.
I still have one bottle left!
All the above were available in the $50-60 dollar range, on issue. It was the one reviewer that hyped the Cask Strength as “best whiskey in the world” that drove the price up to $80+ and availability down.. It not like they can’t just make more (they continue to do so), but it doesn’t have the cachet that the 30 year old has, as “The First Whisky produced by Alberta Distillers in the 80’s”.
Cheers, and Happy New Year to Kate and all the Posters!

  11. I see nothing to be happy about and don’t tell me being alive is enough because I been alive for a long time and what we are doing now is not living.

    1. Yes, I’ve seen better days. Today was a good day. It was warmish where I live and neither of my 2 dogs pooped in my office today.
It was a good day. I had liver pate’ on crackers with my wife for dinner. It was a kind of zakuski with onions and peppers and cucumbers and tomatoes to put on the canopies’. We had several different platforms and nice glasses of whisky and wheat beer.
It was all worth living for. Eating and drinking good are some of the finest pleasures of life and although we are much poorer than we used to be it was a lovely experience.
I’m sorry if you have no one to share life with anymore. I’m sorry if you’re lonely.
I hope you find someone to share life with, old white guy.

      1. Oz, I am not lonely just pissed off at the level of stupid I encounter every day. Today I will have kids and grandkids over in numbers to exceed the lockdown prohibitions, we will drink and eat and I will toast a go f yourselves to the government.

        1. I had a good laugh last night and it reminded me so much that we have two societies.

One teacher (mainstream media & Trudeau):
What is the answer when you add 2 & 7? Answer: 27
What do you get when you add blue and yellow together? Answer: bluellow

          Another teacher was teaching:
What is the answer when you add 2 & 7? Answer: 9
What do you get when you add blue and yellow together? Answer: Green

Hopefully everyone has a safe and happier New Year as we understand what damage our politicians have generated.
Thank you Kate, Robert and all for this wonderful website that keeps us more informed and away from being lambs ready for slaughter by our media and politicians misinformation campaign.

        2. Well thank you for telling me that, old white guy. I was worried about you. May you have a good visit with your kiddies, may you enjoy them as much as you can stand to, and I hope that you find a good strong woman like I have to love and care for you.
(by the way, my wife doesn’t approve of me blogging here, she thinks it’s a waste of time even though her outlook is same)

          1. Dear Ms Oz,

While it may be waste of Oz’s time to post here, reading his thoughts is certainly not a waste of our time. We thank you for your patience and understanding. 😀

            Cordially.
            Colonialista.

        3. ” just pissed off at the level of stupid I encounter every day”

Man, my wife has an essential job as a cashier at our local Super Store. She is an intelligent woman who used to make a 6 figure salary and be a CFO in her own company(with me) and now gets a part time hour minimum wage and hates Unions but has to give 10% of her wage to a useless union. She has to deal with a level of stupid, person by person, that you cannot possibly comprehend. The only training that she has dealing with assholes is me. I admit it, I’m an asshole.

Worse thing is, I’m the asshole that she loves. We just celebrated our 37th anniversary in November.
That we’re both still alive is a blessing from God. I mean it. I have a ridiculous number of broken bones in my body because I’m the a guy who lived the violent kind of life that made that happen. I can still do the violent thing, but I’d rather not.

Anyway, my wife is such a sweetie everybody that encounters her is overwhelmed by how helpful and sweet she is.
It scares me. This world we live in is so evil that I think someone will hurt her.

    2. If you didn’t share your perspective we would be less informed…so there’s that.
      Thanks, VOWG…and Happy 2021.

  12. Predictions:
    – It’s gonna get lousy with leftoxenomorphs coming from every direction, drooling with anticipation.
    – It’s gonna be like operating in nazi germany in the 1930s.

    Resolutions:
    – Our late Constitutional Republic the United States of America (July 4th, 1776 – November 3rd, 2020) needs to be reborn.
    – Keep doing my best.
    – Be ever distrustful of cell-phones, computers, everything electronic.
    – If the going gets ‘so’, dump your cell phone. “I can’t function without my cell phone” You can’t survive WITH your cell phone. Your cell phone is an enemy robot. Kill it. Just turning your cell phone on is like sending up a flare to let the enemy know where to find you.
    – Everything is spying on us.
    – Microsoft is the worst spy tool ever.
    – Every tech giant, every social media platform, is our worst enemy and working for our enslavement and destruction.

    Survival tips:
    – Get hard currency, ammo, batteries and everything useful you can.
    – You don’t have enough ammo.
    – Learn, practice, improve, better yourself.
    – Network with like minded individuals, if possible.
    – Security is paramount.
    – Be gray. Never let others (unless of your absolute trust) know.
    – Don’t ever let pity make you fail yourself.

  13. Dear Leader Kim Sung Trudeau reminds us in his New Year’s statement that Canadians are racist bastards and that we must all fight global warming. He will be spending the day at his Harrington Lake winter palace contemplating on how wonderful he is.

  14. 2021 prediction*: the denizens of Small Dead Animals will continue to complain about everything, see conspiracies everywhere, nurture petty grievances, and cry victim at every turn, while doing absolutely nothing to make any change in the real world.

    * As of January 1, accurate so far. See, e.g., the comments above and below.

    1. I have been trying for over 25 years in a multitude of emails and letters but our governments and institutions have their own “experts” that they have invested good money into bad advice and corrupted practices.
Our governments have no interest in changing, they all want to jump over the cliff together…
Our governments have this enclosed system and if your not part of it, they are not interested in any new ideas or changes as we have lost leadership for corruption for this monetary system.

  15. Not the first time I’ve used this, but it’s just so corny it makes me giggle-

…..So there was this farmer who had only one ear. On New Year’s morning his neighbor drives into the yard, stops his truck and hollers across the yard, “Happy New Year!”
The farmer hollers back, “the horse bit it off!”

Anyway, happy new year to Kate and all the contributors to her terrific blog.
2021 has to be an improvement, doesn’t it??

  16. Happy New Year ! Kate —Robert and SDA crew
The truth will set us free!
And what was written in the tunnels at VIMY ,seems to apply now!
” WHEN FEAR CONQUERS —-WE ALL LOSE “

  17. Prediction:
Trudeau will be caught on an exotic vacay and CBC will excuse him.
Trump will concede and we will find out in his memoirs that he knew that if he stayed Antifa and Soros would destroy America with riots and violence …a civil war.

    Advice:
    Learn Mandarin
Get yourelves right with God thru Jesus.

    1. if he stayed Antifa and Soros would destroy America with riots and violence …a civil war

And if he leaves, it’ll still be a civil war. Antifa and Soros are following the example of the nihilist Frankfurt School. The FS wanted everything destroyed but didn’t make any suggestions or recommendations of what should replace it.

  18. Happy New Year.

Take the high road as often as you can, but if forced to, go so low they’d never suspect it was you.

  19. Happy New Year to all y’all, may 2021 be better than 2020!

My prediction for the New Year is that 2021 is going to be far worse than 2020.

Maybe I should have put those two comments in separate posts.

  20. We haven’t even started to see the consequences of the Wusan
bio-attack. If my guess is right us folks in the West will see some empty grocery store shelves. People in the third world will migrate in large numbers to avoid starvation. Hope I’m wrong.

  21. Voluntary Servitude
Obviously there is no need of fighting to overcome this single tyrant, for he is automatically defeated if the country refuses consent to its own enslavement: it is not necessary to deprive him of anything but simply to give him nothing; there is no need that the country make an effort to do anything for itself provided it does nothing against itself. It is therefore the inhabitants themselves who permit, or, rather, bring about, their own subjection, since by ceasing to submit they would put an end to their servitude.
A people enslaves itself, cuts its own throat, when, having a choice between being vassals and being free men, it deserts its liberties and takes on the yoke, gives consent to its own misery, or, rather, apparently welcomes it

Étienne de La Boétie (1530–1563) is one of the seminal political philosophers, not only as a founder of modern political philosophy in France but also for the timeless relevance of many of his theoretical insights.

    1. Not voluntary…
Our politicians make sure it is enforced by law or restrictions with penalties.

Insurance was changed by politicians from having a choice to enforcement by laws is one example.

Many people have never been born without having restrictions and laws enforced on them by politicians.

  22. Happy 2021 everyone.

The house arrests for the masses will continue unabated. Politicians and senior civil servants will continue to ignore their own edicts.

Environment and Tossing Virgins into Volcanoes Canada will announce a ban on all internal combustion engines effective 2035. No word on how farm and construction machinery will be operated.

CBC and the bought-and-paid-for media in Canada will continue to praise Dear Leader. They will also demand Canadians be severely punished for being such racists. O’Toole will continue to cower before them.

  23. Things that went down the 2020 memory hole:

No worry of the virus coming here.
    Close the borders.
    Closing the borders is racist.
Order PPE, masks etc, oops we don’t have any.
Oops we can’t even produce any.
Wear masks.(nevermind, we didn’t realize we didn’t have any)
Masks are bad for you.(we don’t have any)
Wear masks.(China sent us some, even though all evidence shows no effect)
If we just shutdown for 2 weeks, we’ll break the curve.
    Hands up or we’ll shoot!
Whatever you do, don’t mention debt or deficits.
Libranos steal $1/2 Trillion and counting of future growth, while the Media drives the getaway car.
Someone said “Whatever you do, don’t concede the election”.
Election fraud? What election fraud says the Media in their best Sgt. Schultz voice.
” ” ” I will not raise the Liberal Carbon Tax”.
No one noticed that Sophie left Justin as the Canadian Media’s daily Justin tonguebath leaves no time for frivolities.

All of, the entirety of the Canadian Media, categorically denies that they have all spent the holidays in a hot tub in the Caribbean
with Justin. They also deny free flights from China Air and free entertainment from Xi and George.

If your crazy uncle persists in these wild stories, tell him it isn’t in the media, Snopes has called it a hoax, Jake Tapper has bet his Walter Duranty medal it isn’t true and Craig Oliver swears on the Great Pierre Elliott Trudeau’s grave it is a fabrication; so it obviously didn’t happen.

    Memories are made of this.

  24. 2021. I don’t see much changing. I see things getting worse. The only thing I know for sure is spring will come. I will be planting a bigger vegetable garden this year, God willing, just in case the supply lines break down, … again. I am in a rural area far from the crowds and therefore likely safe from the civil war I see coming. Lots of cattle and chickens around me. Farmers here are already bypassing official channels to barter during the lockdown. Unless Trump pulls off some kind of miracle, I think there will be a civil war of some sort in the USA. Trudeau will “temporarily” let Chinese troops occupy us help the UN rescue Biden. My body is getting old and fragile. My wife is grey, still beautiful in my eyes, but turning into an old woman as I watch. I read a book about an old couple who survived two world wars. She planted potatoes as Russian tanks approached between straffing runs of their aircraft at the end of WW2. That way the Russians wouldn’t steal her potatoes and in the winter she had potatoes to eat and barter. He had a stash of watches. Every time Russians soldiers arrived her husband gave them the watch he was wearing and pleaded nothing else was left. His wife faked an aged dowager’s hunchback and made herself smelly and dirty with dung while their young granddaughter hid in a secret space in the basement between floors to avoid being raped. That’s how I am feeling and that’s basically my plan. The old grey couple planting potatoes, with a stash of watches. If Trump can pull off rescuing the election from the crooks and if Xi’s aneurism takes him and Putin decides a fight with Trump isn’t worth it, it might not happen. If that’s the case, then I will be giving away extra potatoes and hawking a few watches.

  25. Late to post as usual. I thank everyone at SDA. The banter, the snide remarks, the intelligence displayed, the thought provoking exchanges. All of it has made things a little more bearable for me, in this time of trouble and strife. Thank you one and all. A special thanks to Kate and Robert, but mostly, thank you all for the safety of my sanity.
I would normally say happy new year, but it seems different now, than it was before. There is a darkness on the horizon, and a great sense of sadness at the collective loss of our way of life, all due to corrupt politicians and partisan woke SJW’s.

It would seem impossible to consider that anything could get worse than 2020, yet my apprehension says it will. At least as long as we have the internet, we can share with one another at SDA, our fears and worries, our anger and exasperation, our thoughts and intentions, and do it knowing for the most part we think much alike, and are also much in agreement. So, I will say it, even though I don’t feel it. Happy new year to all.

    1. Appreciate your best wishes G.K. & Everyone…
      Cheer up!

      To all…
Vitamin D-3 will do wonders folks… Try it!
      Cheer up!

      Come on!
It’ll get better, you’ll see. It has to!!!

  26. • What the politicians always want:
    “A Fistful of Dollars”
    The Danish National Symphony Orchestra
    and Tuva Semmingsen  (Live)  (2:58)

    • What the politicians keep promising:
    “For A Few Dollars More”
The Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Live) (4:04)

    (Check your local listings –
the spaghetti westerns are on the boob tube today!
Clint E / ah, so cool!)

    Cheers!

    1. I watched Two Mules for Sister Sara last night. It was fun to see it again after all these years. Clint and Shirley sure were young. Made me feel old….damn!

    2. I like “A Few Dollars More”, since it has more comic scenes in it. Btw, Roger’s ran Hollywood Suite for free in December, and today, so here’s hoping they run H.S. for free all January.

      1. I have subscribed to those channels and really enjoy them. If you miss what is showing on each channel of the suite, the Hollywood Suite “On Demand” feature channel has more movies to choose from or the one you might’ve missed. Through the telus provider there are currently 37 movies from the 1970s, 41 from the 1980s, 33 from the 1990s and 83 from the 2000s to choose from. Not a bad selection, actually.

    3. Dont leave out,’The Good,The Bad and The Ugly’. Eli Wallach stole the show in that one.

  27. And now your diversity is our strength news for today. The two men the police are looking for after they ran over and killed a Calgary police officer are muslims. One is named muhammad. Perhaps Blackie can change his New Year statement on his website, where he states Canadians are racist bastards.

  28. Happy New Year to Kate, Robert & all who post common sense facts and comments to SDA.

  29. All the very best for everyone, especially our Kate!!!

I wish I could repeat my earlier statement that you should move to Australia, my Lady! But exactly on schedule, new outbreaks of various strains of the “sweet and our sniffles” have allegedly re-emerged here, and we’re again being locked down, locked in, and urged to wear masks INDOORS now… Colour me shocked.

Pluto is looking more and more inviting…

    1. New Zealand is the place to be. Only 4 million people; very friendly, down-to-earth; all speak English. Very few elites. Self-reliance is still a virtue. Can-do attitude prevails. Lots of seclusion possible, but never really far from anything. Wide choice of climates. The current prime minister is a SJW, but she is much easier to ignore than our shiny pony.

      1. As a child I was impressed to learn that a neighbor’s daughter moved to NZ. The daughter’s husband was from there so she was welcomed and accepted into the country.

Also a NZ grade school teacher we had moved to Canada to see the sites but he went back after one year. I was so disappointed as he was so cool.

I do believe it’s a closed couuntry MJ. It’s a “place you can check out but you can never leave.”

        1. Also a NZ grade school teacher we had moved to Canada

You moved a teacher from New Zealand to Canada? (Ta-dum tish!)

          1. Ahahahah! Yikes!
Holy cow, did I ever screw up that sentence. It’s so bad, I’m gonna leave it that way!! Sometimes bad is so good, it’s ah….

            “ta dum tish!”

            Aagahahaahspitti!!

      2. It’s a great place. Friends have moved there, and I’ve visited twice now.

But Ardern is another Trudeau/Rudd/Gillard and with the crazed eyes and choppers of A.O.C., and they just voted her back in, MJ! Doesn’t bode well for the country’s common sense or it’s future…!

    1. I listened to the first few minutes of the first episode and the story teller is so very 1950s ish charming, even funny-cute in an engaging sort of story-teller way, complete with sound effects and all. I could almost imagine his ‘pad,’ as he mentions it was called.

I’m hooked I tell you, hooked! He prolly has a smelly gym bag in there and 1000 things not for girls.

    1. I started as a shortwave listener by fiddling with the bands on the family’s console stereo. Eventually, I started looking around for a receiver kit to build.

The following Christmas, my parents gave me a Heathkit boat anchor. Unfortunately, my father decided he was the one to build it, borrowing a signal generator from an electrician buddy of his. (Kind of sounds like something out of a Stephen Leacock Christmas story, doesn’t it?) It worked and I made all sorts of catches with it over the years.

I haven’t used it for years and it’s still sitting on a shelf here at home.
