Richard Evans, RIP

A sad note from Brian Gardiner;

Some of you may remember Richard Evans, who ran the blog Let Freedom Reign, and before that the Cannukistanian Chronicles. He passed away in the Philippines earlier this month and his family has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise $20,000 needed to pay his final medical bills and repatriate his remains.

Richard was a friend and co-conspirator in one of the greatest blogosphere prankings of all time. You can help out here

  1. Yup. And It sat out there in all it’s glory for a long time

Mr. Wizard of smart had no idea he had been duped.

    1. Ken, in the early 2000’s the left was just discovering that culture made for a weapon. There was a cabal of Ottawa wing-nuts that were beginning to make use of the now rescinded Section 13 to put people through kangaroo courts to punish them for thoughts and speech.

WK was a big proponent and a pompous ass about it. At one point he found a swastika in a gym or dressing room or something like that and made a big deal out of the rise of Nazism. Kate, Richard, et al set him up by sending him images of the serial number of that bike written on her arm. WK, believing he had a verifiable survivor on line one took it hook, line and sinker and dined out on it for weeks. (Gotta love being able to use three metaphors in one sentence.)

When the rug was pulled out it was glorious.

This was all back in the day when the internet was actually fun.

  2. (For 1 second I was worried that the world had lost (to diabetes) the timeless laugh of Rich Evans.) RIP Richard.

  3. Much has changed and not much has changed. Our state broadcaster continues to find Nazis hiding in plain sight on a regular basis, Catsmeat not so much.
BTW Andrew Coyne was once a conservative?? or is that some other Andrew Coyne?

  4. I knew Richard quite well back in the Alberta Alliance days back when he lived in Calgary. I’m very sorry to hear of his passing. Had no idea he went off to the Philipeans.

  5. I have to say, I did not know or remember reading anything from him. As cruel as this may seem, why spend any money to move his body anywhere. I doubt he will care anymore than I will care about what is done with my husk when it becomes a husk.

    1. I agree. We all die and those of us who are responsible have already made arrangements to manage and finance our affairs when we pass on with minimal burden to others. Why this guy is imposing his irresponsibility on us is beyond me.

  6. In the recent election Kinsella volunteered for Biden. One of the key planks in Biden’s campaign was the “Charlottesville hoax.” Kinsella repeats the hoax on his site.

If you aren’t familiar with it, Trump said about the Charlottesville incidents that “There were many fine people on both sides.” The press selectively edited the interview to make it look like Trump was talking about Neo-Nazis.

A few seconds later during the same press conference, Trump went on to say “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.”

The press, Biden and Kinsella all full well knew that Trump was talking about people who were pro and con tearing down Confederate generals’ statues.

One of the sleaziest and most effective political smears of all time. Kinsella’s brand.

Even the BBC caught the smear. Biden was conrfonted on this personally but kept repeating the lie. The fake news press joyfully gave him a pass. Might have cost Trump the election.
