  1. Only matters if Trump wins…

but a simple adjustment, is that if you exercised editorial control, then you are a publisher….

  2. Someone better inform Yelp about their lack of immunity. If they want to call other businesses racist, they become vulnerable to business defamation lawsuits.

  3. Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Wonder if any of the Elite have read that before? Probably, but they thought it didn’t apply to them.

    1. How can this affect media companies without section 230 protection? A couple examples.
      1. Antifa searches Yelp for the new unfounded “racist” business designation on a business’s profile and goes and burns it to the ground. Then the business can sue Yelp for damages.
      2. Twitter editorializes tweets by deleting some but not others to form a narrative that “cancels” someones job. They sue for whatever damages that may cost.
Result: Do all these media companies have enough money to keep paying all the payouts from these lawsuits? Or do they knock off the censorship and let people be adults on the internet and not spoiled children who’s feelings get hurt. Allow the people to block what they want to block or not block.

      1. Neither of these would ever make it to the inside of a courtroom, because neither of these would be actionable if any non-Big Social Media Company I Don’t Like were to do it.

Here, I’ll flip the script: A vigilante uses a sex offender database to hunt down ex-cons and beat them to a pulp. The operators of the database can be sued for damages. That doesn’t happen now, because reporting or disseminating publicly available information isn’t a crime.

It’s the reference to consumer protection laws that’s the clue here. What’s likely to happen is the FCC is going to advise that Terms of Service for digital services aren’t going to be libertarian wild west any more; they’ll be treated as an implied contract between user and provider and as such will have to be tightened up and not equate to, in effect, “we own all your data and can do anything we want to your account at any time”. It’s hard to see how this is going to make much of a difference, because the real problem isn’t that Facebook and Twitter exist; it’s that it’s virtually impossible for Gab to exist. That’s a very different kind of problem there are no laws to address. Antitrust law doesn’t apply; tortuous interference or restraint of trade might, but those are difficult and expensive to prove.

        1. Well, the sex offender database is just a list of people of have been convicted in a court and the database site isn’t trying to form a narrative if the person is guilty of something or not. While twitter and facebook help navigate the narrative using many methods like deleting some tweets while leaving others, “fact checking” some tweets but never others, etc. etc. And Yelp coding into their site a way for random people to just label a business as being racist.

I agree that Twitter and Facebook just existing isn’t the problem because nobody would want to use anything else if you could type what you wanted to say and block what you didn’t want to see all organically without any direction from the “platform” what-so-ever. It does look almost impossible for alternatives like Gab to exist. We can see the whole “machine” start up to try and crush any platform that starts up offering a platform free of their interference.

And your point of a possible implied contract between the user and provider reminded me of this tweet I saw https://twitter.com/RealKnucklefist/status/1316820654793076737
“We must dispel the notion that they provide a free service, we are the product. In exchange for access to their platform, they get our data. It is a commercial transaction. When they censor you, suspend, or cancel you, do they stop collecting and selling your data?”

  4. That America has Ajit Pai for a communications regulator is the problem.
That Khanada has “Theresa” Tran for surgeon general is the problem.
That London mayor is a muslim is the problem.
You’ve sold your countries for illusory brownie points.
You appoint select immigrants to public office positions but you do not listen to and silence immigrants who know where your world is sliding. Congratulations, pompous twits.

    1. As is that CHICOMM ass kissing POS in Calgary…also a Muslim Mayor.

      Rhetorical Question:

What Possible Reason does a mayor of a 2 bit city like Calgary have to do visiting CHINA (Twice) & Collaborating – Schmoozing & Kissing the ASS of one of the Highest placed CHICOM dirtbags in the Chinese Communist Party…. the Mayor of Bejing.?

      Another Fkn LIBERAL TRAITOR…

      As for TWatter.?? ANNIHILATE it
FB.? Chop it up into a million pces and throw that POS Zuckerberg in the Slammer…Another Epstein admirer.

    2. Ajit Pai is an excellent Chairman (and a Trump appointee). He saved the FCC, and us, from Obama’s disastrous “net neutrality” bullshit. He’s got many enemies on the left. Lefty lawyers are already howling about his statement today.

  5. This is what happens when you put Pink-haired, face-pierced, nutbars in charge of Twitters Terms of Service

L- Contrast suppression of America’s 4th largest tabloid the NY Post, story about Biden’s crime family with a freely available 1min. 13 sec. of Rachel Maddow interview with Kamala Harris.

“Imagine Harris, as the power behind the throne or becoming Commander-in-Chief and Defender of the free world. Or not !” This clip is my pick a meme for a Republican ad.

  7. Oh no, I hope the dinosaur media lefties don’t start fighting with the new media Silicon Valley lefties. If it became clear that some comrades were to be sacrificed for the advancement of the party… well maybe the expendables might start to fight back / fight the right enemy.

  8. Dorsey must be the reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels. With any luck, he will meet the same fate. What scum that freak is.

    1. Nahh….
Gerry Butts has already been acclaimed as the hereditary recipient of that dubious Honour. About as CLEAR A NAZI if there ever was one.

He aspires to be like the Gestapo’s Muller, Reinhard Heydrich or the SSs’ Heinrich Himmler…all heros to that Sack of Dung I’m Sure….& most likely the Author of the INternment KAMPF RFQ as well.

    2. Goebbels at least had the good manners to off himself, and save the Bolsheviks the trouble of hunting him down.

Since well before the primaries, Dorsey has been openly laying the groundwork to flee to Africa in case of a Trump victory. Lots of money to be made there as long as you don’t piss off the Chinese, and in Africa, buying a sex slave is only slightly cheaper than buying a government official.

Consequences are for fools who can’t afford second passports or easily flee invading armies.

  9. Eliminate #Section230 and social media companies will have to become even more zealous censors to protect themselves from endless lawsuits. There is no world where a regulation change is going to give Trump supporters what they want: the right to post whatever BS they want whenever they want.

Case in point: in this forum the mods censor posts all of the time because if they didn’t the forum would collapse in a stew of porn site links. Censorship is a necessary evil for online forums.

That said, defending the right of people to express conservative views on topics from environment, taxes, abortion, LGBT right, et. al. is a very important cause but it is huge mistake to link conservative political views to Trump’s partisan political interests. All that does is empower the forces that wish to silence conservatives because Trump is so obviously a vile character seeking to undermine US institutions and democracy. Ensuring a voice for conservatives requires that conservatives rid themselves of the Trump albatross and focus on the contest of ideas. I am so tired of those ideas being poisoned by association with Trump.

    1. “I am so tired of those ideas being poisoned by association with Trump.”
And there you have it,in a NUTshell.
Confessing to your Trump Derangement Syndrome is just the first step..
So no “proper conservative” can think for themselves..cause Trump?
Funny thing there Timmy, all those ideas are older than Trump and will still be around long after Trump is history..the fact that you cannot separate the two is your problem..Note not a problem shared with most visitors here..
      Sucks to be you,eh?

      1. Yawn. Labeling people for disagreeing with you is classic “woke” tactics. One of the reason why I see little difference between the extreme left and Trump supporters.

You also missed the entire point of my post where I made I clear that I understand that conservative ideas are not connected to Trump. My point is that by uncritically supporting Trump many conservatives have created that association in the minds of moderates who could be persuaded by a good argument. IOW, making a conservative argument while supporting Trump is like trying to play hockey with one skate.

    2. “Defending the right of people to express conservative views on topics from environment, taxes, abortion, LGBT right, et. al. is a very important cause but” nothing.

This is war. Ajit Pai’s missive was just one of the first salvos.

It will end when the globalists are relieved of their control of the media, including social media, and the information they monopolize is put into the hands of America’s finest, to be used to send the ruling class of thieves, frauds and perverts to prison.

President Trump is saving you from yourself. On the day Zuck is hanged in an Israeli prison, you will thank him—assuming that by that point you aren’t already a lifer’s girlfriend for the kiddie porn on your laptop.

(I hope for your sake that your girlish whining will help Jaleel finish faster. Back dat ass up, white girl!)

      1. Its a war that will be lost by trump supporters.
There is no path to victory.
In fact, the losses will likely leave conservatives further behind.

For example, what exactly, would shutting down or breaking up Facebook/Google/Twitter accomplish other than making the US weak in the face of a belligerent, revisionist China?

        1. Sure, whatever. Breaking up these companies that already kowtow to China and putting in Biden, who is already owned by China, which has reams of “kompromat’ on him now due to the activities of him and his son will strengthen us vis a vis China.

What will strengthen America is a free information economy, not some fascist dream state where the Party controls what may and may not be said that you seem to envision.

It would also be interesting to know that that grand jury in Delaware is investigating that caused them to seize that computer. My bet is nothing, that it was just a pretext to get the computer into “safe” hands to make sure it can never be examined.

          1. There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone from developing a company to compete with Google, Facebook and Twitter.
The only reason the competition don’t succeed is because they can’t find an audience.
No regulation is going to change that.
You are talking like a CANCON promoter whining about Netflix not having enough Canadian shows.

Changing minds requires persuasion and compelling arguments.
No hearts or minds will be persuaded by a vendetta against successful US tech companies.
No hearts or minds will be persuaded by demanding that social media companies spread propaganda provided by Trumps’ Russian masters.

          2. I think that the key line in what you’re saying falls under “There is no path to victory.” That’s where your TDS kicks in the eyes of so many of us. Trump is fulfilling conservative’s dreams in his actions against red tape and having over 25% of all federal judges being appointed on his watch, and he strives to get Originalists. He’s slowing the behemoth. That’s what we want. You’re all pissy because you don’t like his word choices.

We conservatives favour actions and results over words. I don’t know what you are, but you’re no conservative!
