How do you have a billion dollar program to distribute 500 million to “students” to “volunteer”?
Funny thing … in the Construction world … an advance payment such as that is illegal under multiple Contractor and Consumer Affairs Laws. Why? To protect the customer (the taxpayer, in the WE case) from being ripped off. No work product? No pay.
There was one comment on Twitter to the effect that all this happened because “it’s run by a bunch of incompetents”. I would disagree. They know exactly what they are doing. They set out to rape and pillage and they have achieved success. Now sweep this under a convenient rug and carry on to the next opportunity. They’re still in majority territory.
They had to prepay. The particular arm of the WE Triad awarded the contract was a shell company. It needed a float.
Well if in the words of dear leader we can develop “new concepts of time and space”, why not the same for accounting?
So who “hired” all those people – WE Charity or WE Charity Foundation? And were they students being paid the “honorarium” at the end of the contract or were they regular employees? As I recall, there were over 400 people hired and they were presumably being paid properly and on time. So there might not be too much of that “advance” coming back to the gov’t.
Ah, but you get in trouble when you try to pay back the government– even for things that were probably kosher to begin with. Remember Duffy? Tsk, tsk, such a scandal! Those were the good old days when “scandals” ( like who wrote the “not”) actually saved the taxpayer money.
This was the $912 million program that was going to pay 100,000 students up to $5000 each.
100,000 x 5000 = $500 million
That leaves a $400 million slush fund for stuffing a lot of brown paper bags.
… or providing lots of complementary cabinet minister trips.
… or buying new boats for the Harrington Lake cottage.
… or providing more speaker fees for family and friends.
… or saving the Prime-Minster’s favourite charity that is nearing bankruptcy, is in violation of it’s bank covenants, and is trying to find cash for debt payments due in September 2020.
And if there were more than 100,000 students in phase 2, the “WE” boys would get extra millions in fees.
There was also a provision for more fees to keep track of all the students volunteer hours that “WE” could/was going to get paid for.

All in total the “WE” boys were going to rake in almost $100 Million according to today’s on line article revelations.

While I am angered and titillated by the WE revelations, that is one billion spent out of 300. A crime family like these will not stop at one fraud. I am wondering when the next expose is coming. Maybe a couple of out MSM types have enough shame over being Trudeau press agents or see the possibility of their sugar daddy leaving office that they may want to return to journalism. Prime areas of possible embezzlement – foundations, Trudeau, Clinton or others, More charities, funds given to foreign entities (what percentage of kickbacks in Swiss accounts is normal in these cases?), false front companies – where is the next scandal?
