I wrote this in reaction to Paul’s comment about the LA Hashish EXPLOSION and FIRE in the Readers Comments just below.
Paul … this explosion and conflagration is a carbon copy of the “Ghost Ship Warehouse Fire” in Oakland which incinerated 36 people. … Building Code non-compliance. Building PERMIT non-compliance. You and I … white people with families, jobs, and assets … MUST comply with an ever more labyrinthine gauntlet of codes and regulations. But “immigrant” “communities” don’t.
Trust me … I’m “in the business” … and the building code scofflaws are EVERYWHERE in the “underserved” communities. I’ve personally witnessed dozens and dozens of building departments ignoring or looking the other way from “protected groups” who violate all manner of zoning and building codes. If you are a Chinese National immigrant who bought a building as your ticket to American citizenship? You don’t need to comply with our building codes. Why? Because NOBODY in the deep State, County, and City building Departments, Police Departments, or Fire Departments will enforce the code violations of these people.
I would love to share my direct experience with this gentleman about how “normal”, tax-paying citizens are FORCED through an incredible array of codes, rules, zoning, and public hearings to maintain and develop their property. But if you are a member of a “protected community” … you can flaunt every code and rule on the books … with impunity.
I actually did some work PG&E several years ago helping them remove structures which were illegally built over their gas line easements. Yes … literally right over their gas lines. That was just the HALF of the code violations I saw. Most of the violations? A single non-english-speaking Chinese National building owner would partition off a single family home into 6-8 bedrooms, each with an exterior door … and rent the rooms out to ALL Chinese nationals. These illegal multi-family homes are all-over Silicon Valley.
But we NEED the Chinese National H1b Visa High Tech workers … right? Or we NEED … cheap places for all the sub-minimum wage Noodle cookers, eh?
No, I am not racist. But our building departments and Bay Area Deep State bureaucracies are. They’re RACIST in favor of certain PROTECTED races and people’s … because … search me? Language barrier? Nonsense. But this is not a small problem … our Golden State is full of this problem … from Redding to San Diego. Yes, this man should be pissed.
Yeah, well he has my sympathy – But am I the only one who’s wondering how California got that crazy to begin with? I mean, they still have elections don’t they?
I have a nagging suspicion that those who are now realizing what a clown show the State has become were part of the problem long before it became a problem for them.
I guess they can leave California and move to Texas, and we can have the same conversation 20 years from now. A little research into how Austin Texas is a blue island in a sea of red tells me all I need to know what happens when Liberals fleeing oppressive rules and regulations that they themselves helped implement set up shop in other areas.
Yes. Votes have consequences. Here in my little suburban enclave the NIMBYS were empowered by the Courts to actually VOTE on a 44 unit new housing project. The 44 homes were the product of a 7-year-long negotiation between developer, and city agencies in lieu of 315 apartment units. The NIMBYS sued, and the courts ruled that the citizens had a right to VOTE on the housing project. The NIMBYS won, and killed the 44 homes. Yeayyyyy! screamed the NIMBYS.
Problem is … the NIMBYS convinced enough Voters that they could SHUT DOWN this development and developer. Nonsense. In this FREE country, the developer has a RIGHT to develop his property. So … the Developer has returned with his original 315-unit Apartment project, which includes 20% low income units. In the interim, the State of CA … in response to the housing crisis … passed SB 35 The Housing Accountability Act. This State Act prevents cities from unreasonably denying housing projects. The Developer’s 315 Apartment Units now HAVE TO BE APPROVED.
The IDIOT NIMBY voters succeeded in denying 44 tastefully-designed single family homes at “market rate” prices … and will have unwittingly forced the city to accept 315 apartment units in huge building blocks with 63 “affordable” units. The NIMBY IDIOT VOTERS denied a project that FIT the image of our community … and have caused us to swallow a disgusting PIG of a project that will blight our city for generations to come.
Elections have consequences. Yes. Californian’s (but not THIS Californian) have voted for our own misery.
