  1. In my apartment building, people often abandon stuff in the lobby when they want to get rid of it rather than dumping or donating it. The best time for that is near the end of the month when someone’s moving.

Several years ago, some kindly soul left a complete DVD set of FT. It didn’t take me long to decide whether I should take it.

    1. That’s what they do in Japan, except it’s left outside for folks to pick through and pick up for reuse.

      1. Also everywhere in Planet.

Saw a news item awhile back of McGill students emptying out after a term ends– furniture left outside is gone in a NY minute.

      2. I got a lot of free computer hardware that way.

Unfortunately, the last few managers clamped down on that. I had to toss two perfectly good CRT monitors into the dustbin because the current manager doesn’t want anything lying around in the lobby. I guess she’s afraid that it might convey the impression that the building isn’t a high-class place. (It isn’t.)

        1. Can’t blame you! I always look to see what people throw away. It says a lot about them. Sadly nowadays people have to guard their stuff if they’re waiting movers to show up.

The piece I saw on CTV was interesting because the supposed junk beside the apt building was a heavy looking wood table and matching chairs. It could’ve been an antique set! One has to hate waste like that.

          1. Having survived PET’s NEP “recession”, I learned to stretch what little money I had as well as being careful about what I chuck into the dustbin. I might need it some day.

    1. I thought that FT was gonna be F-Troop, but it is Robert we are talking about.

    1. As a kid growing up in the late ’50’s, I would watch that (Honeymooners), show as my parents were literally pissing their pants laughing……I thought they’d lost their marbles, seeing at the time that not a damned thing going on on that little 12″ black n white screen was to me, even remotely funny..!!

Fast Forward….?? Some of the best Comedy that was ever played.

      Innuendo on steroids…!!

  2. A Guardian news item which, unsurprisingly, tries to felate the Chinese government’s handling of WHO, contains this potentially astonishing bit of information:

“China argued against declaring an emergency on 22 January, but could not have carried the argument alone. The other emergency members and advisers were experts from the US, Thailand, Russia, France, South Korea, Canada, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Senegal, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and New Zealand.
Their advice is confidential, but for the vote to have been split (resulting in postponing a declaration), several western, or western-aligned, representatives must have voted with Beijing.”

I wonder if CBC Rosie bothered to ask Dr. Tam how she voted?

    1. Are recorded votes a part of the emergency meeting minutes?

I suspect there is a record of what took place at the January 22, 2020 emergency meeting of the WHO. Maybe it is time for Trump to make revealing the meeting minutes a condition of the U.S. even beginning to consider looking at whether or not they will restore funding to the WHO. No minutes – No funding.

  3. Rex Murphy lets go against our parliament.

As for the masks, where are they?? I walked into a small town Saskatchewan COOP the other day and they had one box of 10 N-95 respirators left. (Masks are for hiding your face.) I bought them. The lad at the counter informed me that they’re ”almost impossible to find.” I believe that if we all wore good respirators, the rate of infection would drop to near zero. Where are the masks Justin??

    1. Get the flu, get over it and live your life. Take care of those at risk and the sick let everyone else get back to normal. This is just a flu.

      1. “This is just a flu.”

It has to be, because if it wasn’t, it would be scary and we doesn’t like to be scared. Therefore, it’s just the flu, Q.E.D.

BTW, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston required everybody, patients, janitors, everybody in the hospital to wear masks and their new infection rate among staff dropped in half. They think that some of the infections they are still experiencing are coming from outside the hospital.

I don’t get the resistance to wearing masks you see among the right wingers. I will get back to normal when N-95 masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer is as easy to buy as toilet paper used to be.

          1. Since when has it been right wingers resisting the masks? Dr. Tam herself said we didn’t need them and only if it made us feel better should we wear. Does that mean you define right wingers to include Dr. Tam??? And what about the right wingers who do wear masks, like me? Does that make us hypocrites?

          2. I’m a proud right winger, which is what is so disheartening about it. I read all of the blogs like this one, the comments are getting as crazy as the stuff any leftie ever wrote about Russia. I used to think that right wingers were more about the thinking and less about the knee jerk.

          3. ” I used to think that right wingers were more about the thinking and less about the knee jerk.”

You are at least a decade and a half late to the idiot party. Knowledge and expertise are for elitists, real men thump their chests and learn everything they know from their favorite blog.

        1. WTF does “Right Wing” have to do with wearing a mask…??

          Nothing.
I wear one (When I’m out n about), cause it makes sense. Capisce..??

    2. And the MPs got themselves a pay rise in April when they should have been giving back 25% of their pay.

  4. The Fawlty Towers videos are not available in France “for copyright reasons.”

    1. Really… I could see Germany doing so.

…I mentioned the war once, but I think got away with it.

      1. And Spain.. “You continental cretin!”
        “It’s ok, he’s from Barcelona..”
        RIP Andrew Sachs!
And poor Prunella Scales (Cybil Faulty) has Alzheimer’s..
One of the funniest shows I’ve ever watched. Watched it when it came out, watched it as re runs , got the series on VHS (ntsc) and later DVD. Our Christmas traditions include watching Fawlty Towers episodes..
Have incorporated many phrases in daily life, especially with other fans. Every time I watch it, I find something new!! Classic Brit-Wit!

        1. The entire series is 13 hilarious episodes long.
Choosing a favorite is like choosing between children.
Mine would be between the Health Inspector and the Lobby construction.

          1. Apparently the reason why there were so few episodes made was because Cleese, et. al., ran out of ideas. On the other hand, they quit while they were ahead, leaving a brilliant legacy.

          2. Both Cleese and Booth were keen on every script being perfect, and some episodes took four months and required as many as ten drafts until they were satisfied.
            (Wikipedia)

    1. Nunavut barely has any people.

South Korea never completely closed off visitors from China. Germany kept borders with the Netherlands and Belgium at least somewhat open. The ‘SEAL EVERYTHING’ mantra has proven a bromide albeit an excusable one. This is probably why the nationalist/alt-right movements around the world are foundering through this crisis.

      1. You’re an IDIOT.
Nunavut has to fly/ship virtually all of its supplies in, Therefore there is a constant stream of people coming and going. Then virtually the ENTIRE population has to visit these supply depots and pick up what they need. EASY for an infection to spread that way.

    1. Deno saw that when it was originally aired. That show had some very funny episodes.

  5. Pardon me if this has already been raised, but I am wondering if the psychological stress of lockdown was the final straw that tipped Wortman over the edge into madness:
“Dr Lissa Johnson: It’s impossible to say for certain what caused the shooter’s behaviour. He would no doubt have suffered serious psychological problems before the lockdown. But it is possible that the impact of lockdown exacerbated whatever psychological or psychiatric issues he was already experiencing.” from https://sputniknews.com/interviews/202004211079033137-mass-shootings-and-mental-health-a-clinical-psychologist-explains-the-effects-of-covid-19-lockdown/

    1. I think Wortman was nuts to begin with but normal Canadians are soon going to find it increasingly difficult to believe the government and they will start taking action, even if it is going to a park and forcing a cop to write a ticket that they will not pay. We need to stop the insanity.

    2. Wortman’s girlfriend would know. She and the murderer had a mega fight at a house party which they left early and it continued at his cottage just before the mass murders. He left her handcuffed at the cottage which he allegedly burned down. I wouldn’t discount other issues like debt and alcohol being factors.

There is a book or movie here. Wonder how much longer it’ll take before we get the full story? Cops aren’t talking. Too embarrassed.

  6. Levy at the Toronto Sun website reports on how Jews and Israel are being blamed for the China virus.

  7. The Liberal Party’s Globe And Mail is excited that the world’s largest cargo plane is bringing masks to Quebec. China is wonderful.

  8. A check list for models. This is a good read. In my opinion it will help you better assess what you see from public health officials and the maim street media. In my professional life I found models useful, but only when we followed our company’s version of these rules.

Rule 1: Use models to clarify, not to obscure.
Rule 2: Adopt an “assumption hunting” attitude.
    Rule 3: Detect pseudoscience.
Rule 4: Find sensitive assumptions before they find you.
    Rule 5: Aim for transparency.
Rule 6: Don’t just “Do the sums right,” but “Do the right sums.”
    Rule 7: Focus the analysis.

The rules cannot by themselves ensure that the model will be a reasonable and relevant representation of the situation being modeled. But if they have not been followed, people with an interest in the results of the model have good reason to be skeptical of both the motives of the modelers and the plausibility of model outputs.

  9. The Liberal Party’s media is excited that Great Leader is starting his fake parliament today. Our Glorious Leader will answer a couple of questions from the Nazi Conservatives by Zoom, from the comfort of home. But don’t worry, he will still give his daily rant this morning on how wonderful he is. And the Unifor journalists will have new questions on how wonderful he is.

  10. Licia Corbella

“The Canadian Energy Centre calculates that over the past 18 years the direct contributions Canada’s energy sector made to federal and provincial revenues between 2000 and 2018, is very conservatively estimated at $360 billion — more than any other sector by a long shot.”

“Albertans have paid more into federal coffers than they receive back.”

“Here are just a few of the recent net contributions Alberta has made to the rest of Canada: In 2010, $16.6 billion; in 2011, $17.9 billion; in 2012 $19.24 billion; in 2013, $23.5 billion; in 2014, $27 billion; in 2015, $24.76 billion; in 2016, $16 billion; in 2017, $15.3 billion; and, in 2018, $17 billion.”

Canada wants a COVID recovery, but Trudeau, Singh, Blanchet, and May don’t want this money. Ok where are they going to get it?

      1. Except they figure they can classify “the rich” to exempt their own family trusts from any taxation. Sadly, they’re probably right.

  11. Why does this site want to access my browser’s canvas? Blocked by default, by the way. If you are conservative, you should not work to defeat visitor’s privacy. Give your head a shake.

  12. I trust SDAers have been keeping up with the Tara Reade-Joe Biden affair. The corporate media cartel have been hushing up the story, but it seems some intrepid small media have been investigating the story, and now have a few third party verifications of what Ms. Reade alleges. Here is a good link summarizing the case today:
    https://www.westernjournal.com/latest-tara-reade-twist-biden-faces-swelling-criticism-left/

    Two points:
    1. Click onto the FOX News web page for a few articles on how the U.S. media cartel are spiking the story;

    2. I did searches of the respective web pages of the Globe and Mail and CBC News, and both corrupt news agencies have only published one April 13 Associated Press story, a story that gives most of the space to Joe Biden hotly denying the charges. Our two large national media corporations have censored all the news since then supporting Reade.

This is an important story, since its developments hinge on who is the next US president. I think moving forward the establishment elites will still try to paper things over for Mr. Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee. The Democratic convention may be “virtual”, which could allow the elite bosses to appoint someone else — all with corporate media support and censoring.

If the elite bosses continue with Biden, irrespective of the rape charges, Trump could win. The Bernie Sanders Left is angry at the moment.

    1. I think they want Biden in there because he will be able to topple over in favour of whatever VP — probably female, and of course also easily controlled. Their only chance is to go strong on the anti-Trump vote, which is reflected in the outlandish and relentless attacks on Trump.

  13. JRE 1465 with Tim Pool. Of course it’s long, but look where the sound bite world got us.

My take on both guys is they are well intentioned, not overly tribal & provide good insights.

  14. Also wrt Dr Erickson & Dr Massihi, they are very much worth watching, as so many here have already said.

  15. Blacklock website reports that federal government executives booked over nineteen thousand dollars in unnecessary flights after Blackie told everyone to stay home and not travel.

We are entitled to our entitlements. -former Liberal cabinet minister

    1. Horrible. That was an excellent informative video. Hopefully it will show up elsewhere.

      1. I watched an hour plus video of the drs last night, found it odd the search brought up videos of the presser but none with high volume views, having heard it had been seen by millions.
Anyway, seems original video was pulled, demonetized, censored. Searched again 20 minutes ago, still found the Dr’s press conference, or at least an hour of it but appears nanny state censors & minions continue with their corruptions

    2. You can Still find the video (link on the summit news page, but I guess those 12,000+ comments will be gone. They were on the YouTube site.

    3. Given that I am “stranded” here in California, I found this video very informative. The cost-benefit of further stay-at-home policies is negative. Open the skies a bit, now!

  16. I always enjoyed when Basil would hit his “spic”. Terrible yet terribly funny.

At 9 pm eastern time tonight Rosie Left-the-Barn Barton will interview Dr. Tam. Beyond terrible.

Apparently Maggie Trudeau suffered smoke inhalation due to a fire in her building. Hopefully she’s fine, but…
A CBC description of MT: “Trudeau is also a well-known author and performed a one-woman comedy show at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival last summer.”

Anyone who saw her show said it was akin to being beaten like Fawlty’s spic.

  18. Perfect storm: Virus disaster in Italy’s Lombardy region is a lesson for the world

    https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-04-26/perfect-storm-virus-disaster-in-italys-lombardy-region-is-a-lesson-for-the-world

“Of particular attention to prosecutors was the March 8 decision by the regional government to allow recovering COVID-19 patients to be put in nursing homes to free up hospital beds. The region said it required the homes guarantee the patients would be isolated, but it’s not clear who was responsible to ensure that or whether anyone checked.”

“When management proactively barred visitors Feb. 24 to try to guard residents and staff from infection, local health authorities responded by threatening sanctions and a loss of accreditation for cutting off family visits, said the facility’s new director, Valerio Poloni.”

  19. Great Leader Kim Sung Trudeau just gave his morning press conference of meaningless drivel. Although he did remind Canadians not to be racist bastards. Standard meaningless questions from his loyal drooling media. One journalist was upset that emergency medical supplies coming into Canada are not labelled in both official languages.

  20. At Justin Trudeu’s daily presser today, two different Unifor journalists asked our deep-thinking leader about the fact that certain PPE goods, and other protective products, are wrapped in English only packages. The Rt. Hon. one replied that we must balance the needs of an emergency with duality needs. He did stress that it could be dangerous for unilingual Francophones using these products. Good to see our journalists holding Justin Trudeau to account.

    1. When the Unifor journalists were complaining today about both official languages not being on medical supplies shipped in, do they mean English and Chinese?

    2. Having protective gear not labelled in both languages is very serious, they could end up putting things on the wrong end where there brains are.
How long before someone asks Justin who is styling his hair, the piss pot style is not flattering.

      1. There are probably pictograms in addition to English, but I agree with Liz here..
How ironic it is, that I learned both official languages of my country, in school, but the francophone’s cant deign to know enough English to get by.
(I like to practice my French when possible, esp. when I visit Quebec, mostly for work purposes.)
One ‘interesting’ point of note, you can speak French over the comm channels at Montreal (Dorval) airport, and listen to a mix of English and French, even though the rest of the aviation world communicates in English, as per ICAO standard, there’s even an ICAO English proficiency test!

  21. Breaking: Margaret Trudeau is in hospital with smoke inhalation after a fire at her apartment building.

    1. I believe going “off the reservation” is the correct term…

CTV Montreal says it was on her balcony, and that she’s fine.

  22. Breaking news: according to the Huffington Post, Andrew Scheer now says that Derek Sloan should not have questioned Dr. Tam’s loyalty to Canada.

    1. Liberal Opposition leader Andrew Scheer is as bad as former liberal Prime Minister Myron Baloney.

Liberals like our China Boy PM look down upon women and minorities as weak and vulnerable so they instinctively try to protect them as though women and minorities are their children or pets.

It is this feeling of a noble sentiment to protect that gives liberals overwhelming feelings of self-righteousness and they feel morally superior to normal thinking people, it’s extremely arrogant, but that’s typically liberal.

Despite this noble sentiment being based on their own sexism and racism, liberals are very good at appealing to it to buy votes while at the same time bullying rational adults into submission with charges of racism.

    2. Why did he say that? Was the media continuing to harass him a week or do after Sloan’s legitimate question? Just what Andrew MacDougall was talking about. (linked in a comment I made abive). Media is going after Conservatives, rather than questioning the government. Mischief making and somewhat pointless, but in line with the media hate-on for conservatives.

    3. Scheer should cross the floor and join the Liberals.

If not, he should read his job description (entitled the Role of
      Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition)
Also, he should go back to studying the Policy of his own Party.

The man-boy is not worth his salt nor his pension either, like you know who.

    4. Scheer should have smacked Sloan down a week ago. He needs to just step down already. Matt Gurney did a good job talking about this at NP.

    1. Flatten the economy!

Is the point. The liberals have a fantastic opportunity to increase voter dependence on them, there might not be another opportunity this good, this is like the unlikely NDP win in Alberta, they knew they only had four years to do as much damage as possible, and they did.

Federal Liberals have the misfortune of Canada being right beside the Trump economy, we couldn’t help but have low unemployment and good times despite everything they tried to de-rail it, along comes the China virus and bingo – can’t let a crisis go to waste.

  23. This is a new movie from Michael Moore …. Stay with it for a minute.
The environ-mentalists and green lobby wants it banned.
    Its 100 minutes long.
If you can handle it, you will find surprises and revelations.
For the most part, people that look up Ms. Kate’s blog every day, know this stuff, been there done that sort of speak.
The revelations are mostly for the crowds the poor useful idiots, shown in the movies at earth festivals and such, that are highly susceptible to sloganeering. Interesting part at this point is when they are asked about the power supply for the festival, you got to see it for yourself.

It’s mostly about the scam of “renewable” energy confab.

Michael Moore Presents: Planet of the Humans | Full Documentary | Directed by Jeff Gibbs
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk11vI-7czE

In other ways is an alarmist kind of thing, a fatalistic view of the world.
The slides toward the end of the movie are for effect, not so much about truth.
You gotta stay for the credits, there are few gems about the hypocrisy of the Sierra Club, 350 club or whatever it is and completely unsurprising, AlGore.

The movie is on youtube free for a month.

    1. Well said,
      Everyone should watch this movie.

How many times were you or your kids, or grandkids forced to watch Gore’s climate cult film again & again & again in school?

      1. Never seen it, sons were prepared by the father to expect propaganda.
If they did not believe me though at least they were exposed another idea.
Today, at 40 & 37 they are mostly with the father except when it comes to Trump.

        1. My guys are in their 20’s & were force fed it several times a year for too many years. They avoided the cult but many of their peers bought in.
Glad to hear about your sons, well done.
The Trump thing is very common, easy to get infected, but I suspect they’ll develop immunity over time.
          Cheers,

  24. Oh Noooo! Post Millennial reports that a former Liberal health minister has attacked the CBC, and has questioned its independence.

      1. Lizard Person. That’s my take, all I need to see is the forked tongue. But the eyes give it away, black like a lizard. Wonder if they clipped her tail?

      2. I’d rather listen to cats fornicate than those two but that would still be better than the lisping dickspank. He doesn’t want anything to return to normal because he’s clearly losing his sanity.

        1. He doesn’t want anything to return to normal

He clearly enjoys most of his current situation. He’s worshipped and glorified by the likes of Tokyo Rosie, he can hide from the public despises and frolic with Fido (a euphemism for what he’s really doing, but decorum prohibits me from saying it), and he can look important.

The only thing is that he can’t go surfing (and maybe something else) by Tofino. Oh, and he can’t go parading with his kind of people, if you know what I mean.

Aside from that, what’s not for him to like about the mess he and his gang of incompetents have created?

  25. China Patty was on the CBC this evening. She refused to blame China. China is wonderful. She also fully supports China’s World Health Organization.

    1. They have to support the WHO. They would not know how to make a move if WHO did not tell them what to do.

  26. Trudeau and Tam are Criminal’s. Conservative Shadow Finance Minister Pierre Poilievre gave a held a press conference Sunday, calling the situation coronavirus has put Canada in a “governmental failure.”

Poilievre criticized Trudeau for his decision to ignore the Canadian intelligence community’s warning of a fast-spreading virus that had swept through China, with Trudeau deciding to still allow flights from China.

Among those who arrived were 2,000 travellers from Wuhan, the then-epicentre of the outbreak.
“Over 50,000 people were allowed to come in, potentially, with the virus to spread it around to Canadians,” said Poilievre. “Protecting the borders is the most basic responsibility of the federal government.”

Poilievre then pointed to the federal government’s failure to ensure that national stockpiles of medical equipment remained available, including vital face masks and protective gear.

“After the pandemic was declared, he gave 16 tonnes of the protective equipment to China,” said Poilievre.”

“Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau’s rescue package has picked winners and losers and let entrepreneurs fall through the cracks,” said Shadow Minister for Small Business James Cumming in the release. “We have been hearing from frustrated business owners asking for flexibility in the eligibility metrics current in place.”

        1. I read that The People don’t like Peter MacKay.
Pierre Poilievre should be the guy.
If he was fundraising in Montreal last weekend, there might be something to it. He is fully bilingual, knows his way around Parliament and the various portfolios.

(Scheer is a scared cat by comparison. Bet you French people frighten him)

          1. Haha ya, I think you’re right!

I agree, Pierre would be great, consistently on point & keeps getting better over time.

            Scheer continues to disappoint, consistently.

      1. Oh enjoyed that NR. Thank you. and thanks for the video of Pierre. He is the only one worth his salt at holding the Communists accountable. The rest of the CPC are a disgrace.
Even in War Time Parliament met regularly. And they would have met in gas masks if need be.
But I am afraid it is too late now. Canada has left us. Now is the time for the Western Nations of Canada to carry on. Albertans are starting to gather around the separatist flag more and more.
Wexit and FCP are joining forces to become the Wildrose Independence Party in June. I see more and more people wearing Independence hats and Tee shirts and talking openly. They do not care anymore.
The USA has done more for Alberta than Canada ever has, the USA buys 80% of everything Alberta produces. That is what feeds Albertans. Canada will not even let us get our products to market.
I like the 51st State group, they in private polling are out doing all the other parties in Alberta. Separatist Parties.
Most Albertans do not know this but southern Alberta originally was part of the USA. It was purchased in the Louisiana Purchase and Americans began to settle. In the final deal they were cut off from the USA by the new border.
My one granddaughter was sent home from college because of the Chinese Virus, and I was very pleased she came home a Separatist like Grandpa. She is making quilts with her other Grandma to keep busy. Good kid.

        1. You’re Welcome on both counts Mr B.
That song has that familiar chord in it! You know the one.

I don’t see why we shouldn’t become Americans since Southern Alberta was once part of what became the USA. I once saw an interview with Eva Longoria who hails from Texas. She said that her family, who never moved places, had been Spanish, Mexican and American, depending on who invaded and fought to acquire the state of Texas! We can do a switcheroo too. It would be so easy and the envy of the East, some would flock here in a N.Y. minute!

For now, I still have a Rupert’s Land flag flying outside. It survived the Winter–no fading, no shredding.
Yes, I’ll settle for Rupert’s Land.

          Stay well.

  27. Regarding the cast of Fawlty Towers and the show’s demise.
John Cleese and Connie Booth (the waitress) were married in real life and split up during the making of the show, hence the end.
