Wuhan Flu 75 Comments

Nearly a dozen Saskatchewan healthcare personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 after a curling bonspiel in Edmonton last weekend.

The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said the bonspiel has resulted in 11 positive COVID-19 cases so far.

Half of those who attended are infected, representing a quarter of Saskatchewan cases. There’s just no other way to describe it – jaw dropping stupidity.

  2. Unfortunately a lot more health professionals are going to catch Wuhan flu in the next few weeks.

    Hopefully it will be a mild case, they recover quickly, and develop immunity.

  4. At least they can work the front lines in a couple weeks without worry of getting infected. But point taken. Almost criminal negligence for physicians.

    1. It has yet to be demonstrated that anyone gets any kind of significant immunity from this virus after recovering. Also, there are people who have been shown to be contagious for up to 37 days after testing positive (vast majority are contagious for less than 14 days after infection).

      1. The greater danger is that a lot of people don’t know they have it. If a person has it for 15 days, imagine the number of people they can infect. Especially if they happen to be a Walmart greeter!!

        I shouldn’t laugh because Walmart are still running full bore. In Moose Jaw, they were opened until 10:00 PM tonight. They’re closing 2 hrs. earlier next week, but only because of staff shortages.

        1. You live in a different world then. Because I have placed a few delivery orders over the past couple of yrs I’m receiving up-to-date emails from Walmart. (I’m miles away from the nearest store and I’ve rec’d orders within a couple days of placing an order.) What you’ve described isn’t what is going on here in Ontario. At the same time they’re trying to accommodate the elderly and handicapped, their regular shoppers and protect their staff. Instead of griping about nothing, why not be grateful that they’re doing as much as they can and still protect their workers. If all workers quit, you and people like me are up a creek without a paddle, as we ladies say.

    It is said that there are only six degrees of separation between any two events in the world. This event shown at the link would not possibly seem to be any further removed from the bonspiel but current events say otherwise.

    3. Don’t know what is going on with a couple of comments about this. Don’t know which tweet you’re referring to but I did read the one James Woods received from a guy named Mike Patrick. As James W. wrote in response: I don’t know you, Mike, but this is one of the most significant document revelations I’ve seen during this whole crisis. Well done.
      The report can’t be copied but was written by a number of Chinese scientists and printed in a Clinical Microbiology Review under Severe Acute Respiratory Coronavirus as an Emerging and Reemerging Infection back in 2007. As an orthopedic surgeon in Canada one could say that Dr. Woo didn’t know abt the study and the threat of a pandemic when he ignored the first signs of this one. After all, a lot of people knew one was coming – Bill Gates knew, the Bible knew. The article seems to be describing the specific one we are now fighting so how the hell could the Wuhan lab have been so careless. Maybe Michael Yon will get to the bottom of it.
      And still JT hasn’t closed our borders to certain of his friends. Beggars belief.

    Just when medical personnel are most needed they are standing on the sidelines. PERFECT STUPIDITY… 🙂

    1. If patient zero was a Chinese sleeper agent who deliberately infected himself in advance of the event to sabotage the Canadian response to the virus, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Everyone needs to take precautions and self-monitor for any symptoms.” (Sorry, not sorry?) Two others were from the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine.

      “Doctors Manitoba confirmed to Global News that three Manitoba doctors attended the event and are now at home self-isolating.”

FFS, when is anyone in authority going to take this serious, be it our inept federal liberals, doctors going to curling events, or dentists to a large conference? Another little tidbit…..I would think that ANYONE (especially any government worker) that went out of the country on a vacation knowing full well they would need to self quarantine for 14 days when returning should absolutely NOT be paid for that time of self quarantine when they return. They should either take it without pay or use up vacation or other banked time.

I think that it would be wise to release a list of the attendees of this event… it is easily within the realm of possibility that just one doctor would see 160 patients at their practice in a week. If my doctor were one of those at the event, I would think that it is my right to know so that I can take precautions to avoid passing it on to anyone else.

    This may be more than just differences in perspective as it turns out he is a big time Hillary Clinton supporter. Do you suppose it might be possible that this influences his recommendations that essentially shut down the entire economy and to try to string things out as long as possible? YOU BET!

    Case in point, he basically threw cold water on the suggestion that Chloroquine could be an effective drug to cure people with ChiCom virus dismissing (in his usual know all/condecending fashion) the “studies” so far as being just “anecdotal” (try convincing the patients Chloroquine has saved of that!) and saying it was not FDA approved for Chicom virus and would need weeks to do proper trials (all while more people in critical condition are struggling to live).

    People need to realize he is not an MD, he is an academic. He, therefore, has no “patient” experience

    Surely he is aware (or maybe, as an academic not an MD, grossly negligent in being not aware), that once a drug is FDA approved (regardless of the specific ailment it may have originally been developed to treat), that MDs (ya those front line people at the pointed end of the stick who are trying to help/save the lives of actual patients) are free to use the drug on what is referred to as an “off label” basis. (This how, for example, while Chroloquine was originally developed to treat malaria, it has subsequently been successfully prescribed to treat other conditions (such as Lupus) without having to go back to the FDA for approval to use for these other ailments.

    So MDs can prescribe without FDA approval. More over, “Right to Try” legislation gives patients the right to demand it.

    So, just being another one of these so called “experts” based upon their years of study (to whom we are all supposed to defer without questioning) does not give him any credibility for having real world “common sense.

    What he should have said was that Chloroquine is FDA approved, is widely available (it’s been around so long it’s a generic), has a long and strong safety record (for all ages, pregnant women, etc.) and encourage doctors to try (starting with their most critically ill patients) on an “off label” basis as the downside/complications risk are minimal AND make patients aware that, if their MD is not offering Chloroquine, they have the right to demand it.

    There was a study done by CDC in 2005! showing the efficacy of Chloroquine for treating SARS (another Corona virus) in primates. (Surely Fauci and others @ CDC would be aware of this study. It was their freeking study!)

    There was some pushback on this saying, it would need to be further tested on humans. However, that would only be correct to get FDA approval for a “new” drug. This drug is already FDA approved.

    1. Are you seriously on drugs? Fauci is telling the truth. It is Trump that spreads dangerous misinformation and it needs to be corrected. There’s a reason the USA virus positive rate is higher than almost all other western nations. They are increasing 45% a day, tripling every 3 days. There seems to be a lot of bad information circulating south of the border including the ever famous “it’s just the flu”.

      Off label use still needs extensive medical support. We aren’t there yet. Trump is making it sound like it is available right now and viable right now. It is not.

      The drug also has a long list of contraindications.

      2. Surely the information that Trump is providing comes from his team of experts. The other challenge for Trump is to make sure people do not panic. It is helpful to provide some level if positive news where possible and Trump does that. Fauci and Democrats simply add to the confusion. Now as far as your stats go, if they are national, they are not that meaningful. The situation will vary significantly by state. Washington State is hit hard possibly because of its high Asian population. Governors are responsible for making lock down decisions in their respective states. Trump is relaying information based on the best judgement of his team, in an unprecedented situation with many, many unknowns. Even if Trump is not correct in everything he says, this is not the time to be playing politics and confusing people.

    2. Yea…Chloroquine does seem to have some major efficacy against Covid-19…but there are numerous reports that DOSAGE is CRITICAL..as little as 2 Grams can apparently have disastrous effects.

      So Carte Blanche endorsements is not what is needed right now, rather clinical trials using small doses under that threshold…but it does look promising.

  29. BC is the epicenter for the Shanghai shakes in Canada right now. Vancouver is absolutely full of abhorrently flagrant violations of social distancing and it’s spreading fast.

    The scary thing to me at least is I’m already used to thus new paradigm. It’s starting to seem normal.

  31. Interesting that the same police force that refused to remove the Indians blocking the rail lines are now going to fine us for breaking social distancing rules. The same premier who refused to take action against the illegal Co-op picketers now wants to criminalize the rest of us.
    Tell me how are social distancing rules going to be applied to the immediate family, spouse, children, parents, grand parents?
