    1. The world is a poorer place with his passing.

He was a versatile actor who played characters as diverse as the Emperor Ming in that cheesy Flash Gordon to Jesus Christ (The Greatest Story Ever Told) to a hired assassin (Three Days of the Condor).

He worked with directors such as Ingmar Bergman, George Stevens (The Greatest Story Ever Told), George Roy Hill (Hawaii), and Sydney Pollack (Three Days of the Condor).

He worked with actors such as Liv Ullman (The Emigrants), Robert Redford, (Three Days of the Condor), and Tom Cruise (Minority Report).

I only mentioned a little bit of what he did. Look up his page on IMDB. It’s quite impressive.

Farewell, sir, and we thank you.

    2. sad to see his passing but happy for him for a long successful and very impressive CV.
and a tip of the hat for the films he did that I saw.

    3. The two defining roles were early in his career starring in two movies that made Ingmar Bergman famous. He was the knight in the Seventh Seal, and the avenging father in the Virgin Spring.
Bergman may have reached his artistic summit with the two movies, however early in his career they were. And von Sydow made those movies great.

  1. I just admired the full moon over the Okanagan mountains. The world abides. Oh, and Trudeau is still an idiot. That is my Koan for today. Peace.

    1. Stevie, I just photographed the full moon, high in the dark sky among wisps of clouds. So beautiful.

  2. Some people who tested positive for corona virus had very mild symptoms, and in other cases didn’t know they had the virus.

    Implications?

Death rate may be much lower than some are forecasting.

The virus may spread more easily as many people won’t know they have it.

Prevention? Same steps as per normal flu. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and often.

    1. And take the extra step as well. Advise ALL your elderly friends and relatives to avoid all crowds, and despite how tough it can be, to isolate themselves from almost everybody. This virus is especially lethal to those over 65, much moreso than the flu. Stay out of Timmy’s, and their favourite meat and taters restaurant. At the few care homes its hit so far, these have been wildfires to the elderly.
      60-69 3.6% death rate
      70-79 8%
80+ 15%. Seems understated for this group.
All other age groups, less than 0.5%, going down to zero for the under 10s. Very unusual for toddlers to not be affected by a corona virus, adding to the suspicion that this is a manufactured bio-weapon. Nonetheless, panic has set in.
I expect the stock market to continue going down, perhaps 50%, yes, this time is different. The irrational panic is alive on Wall Street, millenials who’ve never had a panic or uncertainty, don’t what to do but sell, to pay off their shorts and debts.

        1. The rich buy when panic sells. The rest of us sit and wait for the inevitable recovery.

In the west I would look to cnrl to make more moves on wounded producers.

I suspect that November markets will be either craptacular (if Biden / Clinton win) our spectacular If Trump wins.

          1. In the west I would look to cnrl to make more moves on wounded producers.

That sort of thing happened with my portfolio after Black Monday ’87. Most of my stocks, particularly those that were in good financial shape, eventually recovered after the massive price drop. Some, however, became attractive takeover targets and I made some money off them when they were sold.

        2. Today is a typical dead cat bounce. The market fall/trend is not over. The propagation of the virus spread is far from over, that is what the market has been reacting to. North America is on the cusp of a rapid uptick in the numbers affected by Covid19, if one believes in the proven Bell Curve modelling of propagation. This isn’t to say run for the hills panic, we’re all gonna die. Just the observation that the market WILL react, again.
That will be the next market fall, and it will be soon. Is the market oversold? Yes, and will continue to be in the short term.
The hype is still over the top, but, the market runs on hype and that has to be taken into account, depending on the length of ones investment horizon.
Could oil hit $20? Possibly, the Saudis are playing the long game and have vast reserves, of oil, and investments, to play this game a long time. And it will be very damaging to North American producers and companies in the industry.
Well look at that, the bounce is down to 260 pts.
It ain’t over till it’s over.

        3. Dan, you ride ’em down then ride ’em back up. Don’t sell.

Instapundit had a good link to a quantum computer soon to be released by Honeywell in concert with JPMorganChase & Microsoft. $161 and change last time I looked and dividends, I think. The Minister of Finance scooped some up.

    2. Quite so. We won’y know it’s mortality rate for a long time. I understand that S Korea currently has the widest testing yet and determined 0.7%, so it will probably be lower than that.

    1. Good idea – electric cars in the Arctic. They can use diesel generators to produce clean electricity. How does that work?

    1. Health minister cowpatti hagdu is warning some provinces will be short of medical supplies. Is that code for pharmaceuticals?

      Just askin’.

      1. abtrapper

Think of 1 time use products:

Anything to do with IV/drainage – hoses – needles – catheters – nitrile gloves, surgical plastics..the list is long.

Every bit of it sourced from you guessed it, CHINA. They do not use AutoClaves anymore….you know, those big pressure cookers to sterilise equipment..?

I can tell ya, I was getting worried after my last bump on getting a Surgical date here in Calgary for multiple Cardiac Bypass… 4 times since Jan 05. Finally got in Feb 26 and am home now working on increasing my Lung Capacity – Anyone of you that’s been through this knows what I mean by that.

    2. This is very important! If you can get a prescription for chloroquine phosphate (it’s made by TEVA) and has a product code of 69633-0040), you will find it difficult to get the actual drug since a) it’s generic, and b) it’s been supplanted by other anti-malaria drugs. I’ve found one company in Vancouver that has some and I’ll give you the name right after they confirm my order.

  3. Another train derailment in Canada. This time a train carrying propane in Alberta.

  4. True North reports that one out of every five children in Britain are suffering emotional distress, because of global warming hysteria.

  5. Probably Something Stupid

Rebekah Young, director of fiscal economics at Scotiabank –
She said one option available to the federal government would be a temporary increase to the Canada child benefit, a payment provided to families on a monthly basis. Such a move might provide one of the fastest forms of fiscal stimulus available to Ottawa, compared with something like a GST rebate that might take longer to reach the populace, Young said.

So she’s basically an idiot beyond comprehension for even mentioning an already asinine boutique tax.
If people are going to hide – or are forced to hide by the idiots in power – then businesses and their employees may need help. Right off the 20% ++ people who work for one form of the government or another can fuckoff because you know they’ll all be guaranteed everything from pay cheques to paid sick leave to pensions and benefits.

The idiots in power need to keep things open and send a message of voluntary self-quarantine to elderly people especially those with other conditions.

    1. They are liberals, so they know a great many things that are just not true.
Related, Trump has floated the idea of temporarily suspending payroll taxes.
Imagine that, the idea that when businesses could not meet payroll the government shouldn’t still be demanding their cut.
Here? They still fixate on how the government can make up its “revenue” shortfall instead of how to keep those tax payers in the jobs they have now.

      1. ah yes Joseph. gubbamints are famous for killing the golden egg geese.
countless examples where another tax on the taxed tax finally sinks the ship of self enterprise.
        courtesy LIEberals.
most recent glaring example: ms wyynedfarm.

  6. Put lawyers appointed by bankers in charge, and nothing good happens.

More precisely, clueless lawyers who are appointed result in nothing good happening. For example, Climate/Pothole Barbie, our former meteorology minister, was one and her lack of scientific expertise quickly became glaringly apparent.

  7. Well said.
The stupid and clueless are firmly in command.
I begin to see why Russians used Vodka so heavily.

The Politically Correct are in command, yet never ever to be held responsible for their idiocy.

When all around you are mad,are you the insane one for noticing?

    And the herd stampedes on.

  8. Spring is sprung
    The grass is riz
I wonder where cruisin’ Nana is?

    Damn! what rhymes with Tenton?

    1. How about “Went on” as in “alectincgy went on interminably babbling about nothing”? That work for you alecminsky?

  9. Anybody watch the UFC fight on Saturday night? The chicom chick that looks like a dude can really throw ’em. She pulverized her opponent. Broke her nose – face was swollen beyond recognition. The fight went the distance tho.

Canada needs to get into the UFC game. There are some super tough FN gals who can really take a punch. A friend of mine who works the hospital delivery room told me once that no matter how tough the delivery is they have never heard a sound come out of a FN woman.

    They’d dominate UFC

  10. I’m a big fan of David Zaruk who blogs under the name ‘Risk Monger’. His latest piece “Docilian Dreams and the COVID-19 Nightmare” makes a really interesting point about how the response to these threats is often worse than the threat itself. My favourite part of the article though is where he introduces us to the term “Docilian” (His own making)

“Docilians are individuals who do not need to think, expect things to be done for them and fear disruption and challenges…. Risks terrify docilians as they have been led to believe their world has been made safe for them. They search for intellectual safe zones and their social media communities protect them from challenging thoughts….[Docilians] solve problems by saying “No!” to all risks or uncertainties”

    A good read.

  11. Why Canada & Canadians look bat shit Crazy to an outsider.
Eastern Ones are without a doubt….Why.?

‘Cause much of Ontario and parts of the Maritimes were settled by Empire Loyalists.
‘Cause Quebec is Corrupt as are the ruling Liberals. Its GENETIC
‘Cause BC’s Lower MAO-land has been infected with the North American Left Coast disease of ECO-SJW Socialism.
‘Cause our Media has actually been Bought by the Liberal Party of Canada.
Just to name a few reasons…there’s more.!!

    WEXIT MUST happen…

  12. Stole this from somebody who stole it from somebody:

“Some people aren’t shaking hands because of the COVID-19 virus; I’m not shaking hands because apparently, everyone is out of toilet paper”

  13. Blackie sure likes to reward his friends at taxpayer expense. First he gave Joe Clark a cushy taxpayer funded job to get that UN security seat, and now he just made Bob Rae his envoy on refugees. So the taxpayer once again funds Rae’s trips around the world to bring refugees here. Although I’m sure its part of Blackie’s efforts to get that UN seat.

  14. It seems Blackie was only interested in muslims when he was burning jet fuel across Africa. True North reports that over 500 pastors etc have been refused visas by Blackie’s government to attend the World Pentecostal Conference in Canada.

  15. I would like main stream media to list all the products that are derived from oil that is the only way we will be able to educate the lefties and their foolish green agenda. since the msm are gutless’ i won’t hold my breath
