I just spent a bunch of time I don’t have cleaning up trash in the comments section. By trash, I mean the back and forth pissing matches, profanity, and off topic junk/spam comments.
Knock it off. Some of you were sent to the trash folder and another has been marked as spam. You’ll likely figure out who you are in short order.
This isn’t a debating forum, and it’s not your own private dumping ground. Keep it work friendly. Don’t write essays. Stay on topic. Those are the rules. If you don’t like the rules, file a complaint.

Each time I am concerned you might get angry enough to close down the whole thing, and that would be a real loss. I can truthfully say I don’t feel that way about too many websites.

I would put it down to wanting to have a comment section that is actually worth reading. I have been following and commenting on this blog for likely more than a decade. Over that time I have commented less and less because the quality of the commentary has gone down hill. This is not a free speech issue for a ton of different reasons. There are many places on the internet with unbridled free speech, I don’t bother with them anymore, because the speech tends to be so childish, and stupid that and not worth reading. Readers here don’t want to have to wade through all that crap to find the commentary that is topical, well reasoned, well written and worth reading. Nobody is going to take away your right to say stupid things, but I for one am happy that ON THIS MEDIUM, someone will take the time and keep people on topic.

I am aware that to a large extent, you do not actually make the rules (decent people rarely get the chance to make the rules that govern their lives). The bad guys make the rules. And they will take great pleasure in ruining your life if you tolerate their agents’ breaking those rules here.

Personal back-and forth insults and long diatribes are boring, and available elsewhere. It takes dedication and effort to manage a good blog, as it does to breed CH dogs (love reports on your dogs), thus this discussion has caused me to think that it is time that I should make regular donations to a site that I enjoy, often with morning coffee. I do not comment often, usually because I may not be particularly well-informed about the topic.
