– hire people who could actually write/edit/investigate.
– give them crap jobs at the start, have them grow and get better, give them promotions for good work, fire them for bad, etc.
-most senior writers would be no younger than late 30s, editors older, senior editors even older.
-the smart ones knew their job was to create enough copy so the underwear ads didn’t all run together.

-hire anyone with a uni degree, especially someone with liberal arts, wimmin’s or gender studies.
-by “hire” I mean have them work for free as interns.
-when they need to quit when their trust funds run out at the age of 26, pay them crap but give them titles such as “Senior Environmental Editor” and a foosball table
-they report to a Senior Science Editor of 28 and their job is to (barely) re-type Suzuki Foundation press releases and surf the internet for listicles to repost for Da Clicks.
