China’s supply of domestic hog production has dropped 30% due to a swine flu epidemic. It may get even worse. They are also having problems with bird flu making protein substitution very difficult. This is having massive impacts on global food supplies as their import of hogs from non-Canadian sources will increase (creating non-Chinese opportunities for Canadian hog farmers to fill the gap) but also reduced imports of hog feed. This will lower the price of feed for Canadian hog farmers. So my take away is that there are still hog orders to be filled that Canadian producers can go get and input costs may be lower allowing for more competitive pricing.
In the meantime I would be tariffing the absolute hell out of Chinese food imports. 25% right now and another 25% after we send Meng to the US just to make a point.
Beijing have lost patience with Trudeau over his inability (just like Harper’s before him) to get Canadian oil to China, bypassing the United States. (The Basic Dictatorship would have used live ammo on the natives and eco-cranks a long time ago.)
They’re using all the tools at their disposal to push him aside and replace him with the Dairy Queen.
Whether the Dairy Queen will do any better is another story. He doesn’t strike me as the sort to stand up to Chief Big Screen either.

Here’s another theory.
If Meng gets into US custody she knows and the US authorities know her life is over if the Chinese ever get their hands on her after that.
With that in mind, the Chinese know she will sing like a bird if she can get immunity from prosecution.
The Chinese see this as an existential crisis as it would one, show that they where breaking international laws and two that they are not in control of the situation.
Now how is this pertinent to Canada?
The hostages that are currently in custody are there not because of anything they may or may not have done. They are in custody because PM Sockmonkey won’t expedite Meng’s extradition thereby giving the Chicoms all the leverage they need.
Here’s why he won’t.
He would be risking the lives of the hostages to a point. But the Chicoms won’t kill them as its a nuclear option they can only do it once.
He would be seen as helping Trump, and that would be toxic to his voting base, the Chicoms know this and because of that they know the Sockmonkey is more worried about winning elections than worrying about our citizens being held in China.
Now having all this speculation in place what happens when Meng gets into US custody.
She defects, she sings, Trump wins (again), Trudeau looks like Trump’s bitch, and the Chicoms have to contend with this story leaking in through Hong Kong thereby emboldening the dissidents within China.

That’s kind of what I’ve been thinking lately. I believe they’re engaging in full-on economic conquest of western Canada, bit by bit, both visibly and not. And as they do, they gradually change the demographic as well. A stealth invasion is still an invasion. And as they “conquer” western Canada, they gain all our resources, leave eastern Canada to die by a different cultural invasion, and locate themselves in a prime location to start their prep for a move southward. These are generational-scale events, but they do need a continuous, “reliable” government in Ottawa to help smooth the way for them.

People seem to be missing the salient points here. First, yes, China is a shitty trade partner. The second point is that in this case China isn’t wrong. The pork products being shipped were “contaminated” with a substance banned in China but legal in Canada. The veterinary certificates were forged. That is confirmed by CFIA. And the last point is that the pork in question is from Quebec, a province rather well know in Canada for shady, illegal business dealings, fraud, kickbacks and generally crapping on the norms of business.
Quebec pork producers obviously found it onerous to separate their stock based on export destination and decided to feed all their pigs the substance banned in China and the EU. Then they forged veterinary certificates so they could export their pork. I expect the EU will be very interested in this. As for the rest of Canadian meat exports to China, beef especially, that’s a Western product so who cares, right? No, we must stand up for corrupt Quebec farmers because votes are at stake.

It’s a justified hit on Quebec considering it is Quebec farmers forging veterinary certificates for contaminated pork products. Why does Western beef have to pay for Quebecois corruption? This isn’t China’s fault, this is the fault of the “distinct society” in Quebec that condones corruption.
