  1. If Venezuelans haven’t figured it out by now, protests will not oust Maduro. Only his eventual capture, trial and execution will send the proper message. He is a dictator and will remain in power as long as he can if he is unopposed.

    CBCNW inferred VPOTUS was siding with the radical protesters.
    CBCNW inferred it was only the USA against Maduro.
    CBCNW failed to mention Trudeau government denounced the election.
    CBCNW avoided telling it’s viewers that other governments have denounced the election.
    CBCNW avoided describing Maduro government as “Socialist”.

        We political fanatics on the blogs have an unfortunate tendency to avoid media we don’t like, which certainly does nothing to help our cause. I comment on CBC articles at NN almost every day, someone has to oppose the prevailing viewpoint.

        460,000 Canadian households see CBC news every day, and conservatives wonder why people vote the way they do. Add on the viewers of CTV and Global, and there are about a million people receiving their “news” nightly,while we on the blogs would be lucky to reach 25,000 people daily across the whole internet.

  5. I don’t think the troubles will go away with just Maduro’s demise. The military, which has become the western hemisphere’s new politburo, will not allow their power and influence to just fade away. They probably already have a new puppet president to replace Maduro. This is a very long term problem.

I’d like to think, as strongly suggested by Kenji, that some sort of humanitarian-military action to topple Maduro’s madmen would work on some level but it can’t just be on the shoulders of the U.S. and yet most of the other nations are drinking the same socialist ideological Kool-Aid that’s consuming Venezuela’s citizens and forcing many millions to flee for their lives. Saving them is a nation building exercise of a major fossil fuel producing country. Looking at the destruction that oil market hungry foreign interests have caused Canada’s energy industry how much are they willing to help Venezuela pull out of their late stage flat spin into the Caribbean Sea? How much will those foreign interests help ensure Venezuela’s continued self-immolation? Personally I’d be in favor of helping Venezuela ONLY IF that meant the outcome is the birth of a free market capitalist economy with constitutional individual rights & freedom and equal justice for all. I’m NOT in favor of deposing one dictator only to see another one emerge. Nation building, like any, needs a strong foundation to stand the test of time.

Let em stew in their self-imposed mess until they wake the fkcu-up!! However, IF the popular tide has turned … then we OWE it to the people to SAVE them, and help rebuild their energy infrastructure …

      In a related story … Canada May soon need a similar rescue. However the average Canadian voter doesn’t yet appear ready to accept and “own” their FAILed leftist government. Gotta stew in the mess a bit longer … stepping and fetching whatever climate Barbie tells you do.

        He campaigned on that, and he’s trying to withdraw from the hellholes that Obongo and Dubya walked right into.
        With respect, Venezuela is a mess, and Maduro needs his Ceaucescu/Mussolini moment, but if the US gets involved, I suspect it will be done indirectly, by funding and arming the Freedom fighters, and not sending Private Smith and friends to die on foreign soil.

    A few years ago, being a Venezuelan soldier meant the same thing. Now Maduro can’t even keep his soldiers fed. That is a recipe for revolution.

    Maduro isn’t going anywhere until either Chairman Xi decides to stop extending Venezuela credit or President Trump is able to persuade Congress to go along with regime change. Neither is likely to happen soon.

    1. I agree. As painful as it might be let the Venezuelan people sort this out. In the long run the left would only interpret US involvement as colonialism or imperialism of some sort. The US should only become involved physically if Cuba or some other world power physically intervenes to keep the thug Maduro in power.

      That said, it should be noted that Venezuelan Army forces are being stiffened by Russian and Chicom special forces at this time.
      Additionally, Russian strategic bombers such as the Blackjack have been landing at Venezuelan Air Force bases and Russia will
      no doubt value the strategic placement of these air bases. Note that nuclear capable bombers such as these would not fly so far
      from Russia without fighter escorts.

      The best move U.S. and allied countries could do would be to supply and train insurgents.
      Assassinating highly placed party officals and government agents would also be useful.

    1. Or the Chinese embassy have sent a memo to the effect that Maduro has become more trouble than he’s worth to Beijing, and that Ottawa should not oppose his replacement with a new “liberal” puppet.

      Maduro, it appears, has run out of Chinese money or will soon do so. It will fall to Guaido to oversee the foreclosure.

        Venezuelan dollar bonds have jumped in price over January. Beijing is looking forward to helping itself to Venezuela’s oil. Meanwhile, any Venezuelan who can flee will not change his mind about doing so even if Maduro goes tomorrow morning.

        It won’t be Venezuela building a wall. It’ll be Colombia and Brazil.

You want to know why China has suddenly developed a mentality of cooperation with the US, as well as a bit more honesty in the publicizing of their “actual” GNP numbers? Well, they are deeply invested in Venezuela. As it is now, it’s not profitable to be so. But, stay tuned.

  22. Until proven or demonstrated otherwise, I shall assume the whole bunch of them are corrupt socialists who could care less about their people – the Maduro government, the “opposition,” or anyone involved in the Venezuelan fiasco or their power brokers.

    I would not be interested in extending diplomatic recognition of any of them until they present a clear path to democracy and rooting our rampant corruption, violence and depravity in Venezuela.
