Restaurants and supermarkets have been told to shrink pizzas or remove toppings under “drastic” new government plans to calorie cap thousands of foods sold in the UK.
Draft guidelines unveiled by Public Health England (PHE) would see recommended calorie limits set for regularly consumed items including sandwiches, cooking sauces, pies, soups, and processed meats, the Daily Telegraph reports.

What kind of power does the PHE have to enforce that? People can make their own pizzas and choose any size they want so I’m wondering if there will be surprise home visits or delivery boys threatening to report how many times they have made home deliveries. I don’t know where this kind of thing ends.

I suppose the theory is that after eating one pizza (or sandwich or whatever) the person will no longer be hungry. BUT if they are still hungry, (assuming they have some sort of sales tax) that in ordering a second whatever they’ll have to pay more tax. That’s a win for the government, a loss for the consumer.
It may be a small sum to the government but small things add up ……. wasn’t a rounding error central to the plot in the superman movie where Richard Pryor was the computer genius?

It won’t work. I once inadvertently picked up a box of the low-fat version of a cereal and, after a really long day and not having the give-a-$^!* to cook supper, just poured a bowl of the cereal with milk. Having consumed the bowl and feeling equally as ravenous as before, I ate a second bowl. When I was on the third bowl still not touching my hunger and with the taste seeming a bit bland I looked long and hard at the box and noticed the “low-fat” labelling. So I made a prosciutto and cheese bagel sandwich and downed that. Hunger can’t read. People will simply keep eating until it’s slaked. I know from wrestling in college, if you want to lose weight you have to eat just to the point your hunger disappears and then stop. And when the hunger comes back, stay hungry until the next mealtime. Most overweight people lack the self discipline to do that. They’ll simply buy more and bigger versions of whatever it is they’re after. And the nanny state keeps growing.

Think JUNK FOOD TAX. Adding a tax to pop, chips, etc will somehow discourage consumption……yeah right, just more taxation is all it is, while government decides what’s healthy and what isn’t.
Example, that fruit juice will be deemed healthy, while having more sugar in it than a same sized pop! Hint, there is no healthy sugar………..more correctly, there is no sugar that is healthier for us, than another.
The government regulators desperately want this implemented, but even the diehard socialists know this tax will impact and hurt the poor far more than anyone…….

Having just returned from there I am amazed at the absolutely, stunningly stupefying ignorance of the average Brit, and the amazingly conniving brilliance of British politicians. Two hundred years ago the ‘wealthy class’ in Britain began clearing out the Highland population to make way for sheep. The Highland Clearances forced thousands of Scots to emigrate to America, Canada, Australia, and other countries. The emigration continued apace after the two World Wars and the British population was in such decline after the Sixties that the birth rate could not support the aging population. The solution by the ‘Upper “Political” Class’ was to import immigrants from the poorer Commonwealth countries to fill the void created. The Scots that emigrated and their descendants helped create and built societies out of wilderness. Think Carnegie, Bell, MacDonald, Douglas and hundreds of others. Now think of what has been imported into Britain to counter the loss of all those Scots. The “Political” class entering the 21st. Century has doubled down on the idea of their 19th. Century counterparts and are now importing “refugees” from all over the world to the detriment of the British Culture. When you replace people with sheep, what do you replace the “sheep” with?
