    1. A reputation for banging biker babes could be the key to winning Quebec. Despite the reputation for marxism in that province, I have never seen such entrepreneurial spirit as can be found among the Quebecois lap dancers.

    2. I am more likely to support someone who bangs biker chicks than someone like Scheer who we really aren’t be too sure about. A leader who can’t get laid is no leader.

    1. I have a great deal of respect for Monte Solberg and am glad I got to read this. The past couple of days I’ve spent a few hours off and on thinking about Maxime and have decided there’s something not right about his decision – call it the smell test. He can explain it any way he wants and lots of you on SDA will support him, but I’m going by my instincts and say ego is playing a huge part in his decision. Like HIllary, he never accepted the fact he didn’t win. Every neighbourhood had a kid like that.

      1. @1:32 Ms Gellen

Many happy return of the day to you!

        ☆ * ° …..and the best all year too!

        1. Nancy Ross, you are too kind. To remember the day is more than my family will do!!
No words will tell you just how much I appreciate your birthday greeting.

      2. Perhaps, but the fact that he has aroused support among many in the Conservative base should be a wake-up call for Scheer. Leadership is not setting policies based on polls. It is having principles and working to persuade people of the rightness of those principles. Conservatives under Scheer seem to have lost sight of core Conservative values.

    2. Monte Solberg, I remember him… interesting take… is there any “Reformer” who isn’t a complete sellout? Hope Monte is enjoying his taxpayer funded pension.

      1. Preston Manning is not a sell-out. I believe he still does not collect that pension. Having said that, the pension is not a good measure. It was right of Reformers to oppose the pension, but once it was in place, there is no reason for them to be sacrificial goats. Once the pension is being given to others, they abdolutely deserve equal treatment. I can disagree with government rebates for certain things , but I will certainly collect any I am eligible for.

        1. True on the pension issue, but unfortunately though, Preston swallowed the AGW/Climate Change fraud.

          1. B I N G O.
I still can’t get over the un-maning of Manning:
            His Going Green.

Ken, is your handle still not remembered?
            Me too. (no hash tag).

        2. Remember Deb Gray? She opposed the pension and at the first opportunity topped her’s up to get maximum benefits. A pox on all their houses. Manning was more than willing to sell out prinicipal and constituent for a favourable editorial.

    3. “Max was so desperate to be acknowledged as being right on the “limits of diversity” that he missed the larger point. Millions of Canadians who probably agree that there are limits to diversity still don’t want the matter dragged into the public square for vivisection; it is unseemly to do so. We all know that the subjugation of women is wrong, even if it is permitted in other cultures. But as most Conservatives know by now, these things should be handled gently and quietly, preferably by a woman, at the right time, and using the right language. Not all issues are equal. They can’t all be approached the same way.”
Monte sums up his uselessness as a conservative.
Funny how none of these “conservatives” are or were able to make the case for individual rights, for property rights or for any aspect of personal responsibility or fiscal common sense..
Always because it was not the time, not the place or ….Unseemly to be seen as responsible citizens of a proud country.
I guess the replacement of citizens with special imports is too unseemly to discuss in the public forum…..I mean sheesh those uncouth citizens might have an opinion of their own on this …..treachery by government.

As I have stated before there are no conservatives in the Canadian political party of that name.Name one aspect of productive society they seek to “conserve”?
Just as our current Liberals are not Liberal in any shape or form.
Liberals of the 1850s would be hanging these current ones for blasfemy.
      However it is properly spelt…Blasphemy.

    1. No sin on the father and I was under the distinct impression that Lilly pharmaceuticals was a Lily-white company.
      Best check on their practices.

  1. A great opinion article by Siavash Safavi, and I have to say I agree with him.

“The Conservative Party is stuck in the middle, afraid of offending anyone by being conservative; we need a second party that won’t be.

What is the main platform of today’s Conservative Party? Except for very basic economic issues and the India fiasco, they have been mostly playing in Trudeau’s court and have not offered any real platform that we could relate to.

Maybe it’s better if the Liberals win now, so we have a better Conservative party deserving of our votes in 4 years.”

    https://www.thepostmillennial.com/unpopular-opinion-how-berniers-decision-could-save-conservativism-in-canada/

    1. That was the reasoning I had for happily supporting Reform those many years ago. My fear now is that the current Liberals will not leave a country that can be saved if given another 4 years. Imagine if reform had come along a bit earlier and instead of Mulroney/Chretien/Martin we had another 15 years of PET.

  2. If you don’t have a “vision” that is better for Canada and Canadians than the UN dogma of the NDP you will lose.. The Liberals have lost to the NDP, they just don’t know that they are now redundant…..buckle up buttercup

    Go MAX

  3. Yeah let’s trust the CBC and Macleans…

    1. You mean the plea bargain that was just reached closing the matter, or his promising to ‘spill some dirt’ in exchange for cash? This is readers tips if you would like to post some of your Shareblue talking points.

      1. What do you mean closing the matter. The allegations are bogus anyway, or at least no worse than Obama. I just thought sda would be on this. I sense a dip in morale anong other conservative sites and i cant fathom why since the whole thing reeks of desparation.

  4. Of course a lot of former Conservative MPs are going to come out supporting Scheer. They should keep to themselves and mind their knitting. Peter MacKay just issued the same negative feelings and doubts as Monte Solberg. Wow, not rockin’ any boats fellas eh? Like Sean M said, nice pension. A bonus for having been in the Cabinet too. Nobody seems to care that Scheer cheated to get the Leader’s position but Bernier.

Cheaters never win. They are all such losers – all parties. It’s Max alone now. He deserves all the encouragement he can get for standing up for what is right. The rats that are not supporting him have long ago gone home with their heads down and their tails between their legs.

Odd, no one thanked Harper for keeping them together. It was all a micturition competition.

      1. Did everyone forget that the CPC did almost nothing to stop the tsunami of immigration the whole time Harper and Co. were in power? We aren’t going to vote our way out of this.

        1. Exactly. Its a Ponzi scheme anyway. They tells us we need immigration for economic growth and because citizens aren’t having enough babies but our population gained its last million in the fastest time ever. (25 months I believe.) Meanwhile they tell us AI and automation etc are going to put more and more people out of work. WTF? And now PM POS & Hussen have added people who used to be excluded due to medical issues!
Politicians who spout this shit should be shown a picture of a gibbet and then told to pick one or the other or swing.

    1. I believe that as the media wants to run with the meme of divided right, they will take any statements by conservative MP’s past and present and if they don’t get a denunciation of Bernier they will “edit” whatever was said to keep the meme alive. Thats called aiding and abetting, and if directed to do so (by whomever) that would be conspiring.
The proper response should be to wish him well on his endeavor, that having another federal platform to promote conservative ideas is never a bad thing, and that voters have gotten tired of being taken for granted by Justin Trudeau’s government. If you doubt me I would point out that the Ontario election result completely rejected Kathleen Wynne’s socialist ideas that Trudeau is now imposing at the federal level.

      But that’s just my opinion.

  5. Re Solberg’s take on Bernier: “demonstrate that he was the gallant warrior for freedom, and that he would outshine Scheer by pointing out all the ways that the party wasn’t conservative enough.”

Great! This is what we need. We don’t need a government beholden to dairy lobbyists who don’t care about Canadians. There are enough conservatives and libertarians in Canada that Max can do very well.

  6. Re. Monte Solberg’s view, I’m taken aback by how out of touch he sounds. The political atmosphere has changed, due to current events. It’s not the nineties anymore. We don’t need another limp-wristed leader.

    I’m backing Max.

    1. I have a theory.
This move could splinter the vote in Quebec and Ontario in such a way that the result of the next federal election may not be decided until the polls close in BC and it ends up in a minority.
It is just theoretical, but let me digress into the weeds a bit.
If the result is such that after the dust settles the left feels cheated, how then would they react due to the Sockmonkey’s broken promise to end first past the post?

      1. Which would be great. I grew up in BC, and many the time did I hear my father grouse that he returned from voting, turned on the radio, and heard that the election was decided before ever his vote was counted.

    2. Monte’s column did read like he was Ottawashed. The Stockholm Syndrome also affects politicians.

    1. The article was silly — typical media. I always find the comments enlightening as an indicator of the stupidity that underlies the Canadian propensity to lean left. Many commentators are ill informed, illogical and driven by their irrational knee-jerk anti Conservatism. We are not well served by the Canadian mediasphere, and that is why the single alternative voice (Rebel) is so important. Too many people just do not want to know that there are alternative views out there. (Might force them to think.) Scheer’s banning Rebel just sticks in my craw. It is disrespectful of the Conservative base. At this point, I am thinking he has lost my vote — with or without a Bernier alternative.

      1. Sorry, lost me at “…he was bested by Andrew Scheer”. I really used to like Monte. He lives just down the road from me, but Andrew “bested” Max because he was bought & paid for by a small force of milk producers, “rental conservatives” with a mindset like the CWB (Canadian Wheat Board). The same mindset that rules with a Marxist-Leninist bent in the Quebec maple syrup industry, as well as the milk cartel.

People forget after a while. Quebec is run by communists, has been for centuries to be truthful. They aren’t the only ones that subscribe to the Communist Manifesto. I have a family full of communists & we’re Brit extraction. First under the catholic church & now by true communists, heavily influenced by the likes of Castro, Che, you name it. After the War Measures Act, our brave revolutionaries were shipped to Cuba, to park their butts quietly while the more suave, edumacated communists worked their magic back home. Small price to pay for murder. Nobody hanged. Same old. Back in 1837, only one hanged instead of street loads. Same in 1870. Brought back home, 10 years later to little fanfare & a short jail term. Nobody hanged for treason, they were “family”.

The Son of Communism’s face in Canada stated a while back “There’s a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime.” Pissing off a large chunk of what I call Railway Chinese at the time. Like father, like son. Railway Chinese don’t have any rapport with the New Chinese, the ones from Hong Kong warned about in Sidewinder, or the ones arriving by the planeload from mainland China, flashing their ill got gains that were probably “got” over the bodies of families of the Railway Chinese, back when Mao was on the Long March & especially in Tiananmen Square . These guys have long memories.

Most Canadians are ignorant of history & stupid. It shows by the parties they support & when they vote. Dangle a shiny trinket in front of them & they’re like that potato chip commercial & guy meets window. I really can’t fathom Scheer, or his tongue bathers. Reject 50% of your electorate, then rub it in their faces spouting an acceptance speech? More of that “Who they gonna vote for” azzwholery.

See ya on election day azzwhole.

  7. Disappointing though that Harper issued a statement against Max. Would have preferred him to say nothing.

    1. I was at an event where Former P. M Harper said the Conservatives would win the next election on the carbon tax issue. Frankly , I believe they have underestimated the difficulty of overcoming the Liberal narrative that is supported by the MSM. We have yet to see the negative effects of their policies in the most populated areas. In fact the gratuitous government spending has likely given the impression of prosperity . The bill is however, in the mail. I do not believe the strategy of ducking every hard issue so as to offend no one and promising to role back a tax that the negative effects have yet to be felt will win you an election. It will however offend the sensibilities of your common sense base .

      1. I think they have a chance to win it on the immigration issue — if they are smart. With Scheer at the helm, they may not be.

  8. This is on Scheer’s watch, as they say. Ezra gives several options Scheer could have chosen but all he has done is cringe in the corner hoping the liberal press won’t see him. He’s been successful at that!

  9. The Anglosphere is certainly going through political ructions at present: Australia, Britain, US now Canada eh?

All on the right/populist part of the spectrum. It’s as if there is a groundswell of the people saying to the establishment, those in the political bubble “We’ve had enough”

    1. And its linked to be able to by-pass the press and the old letter-to-the-editor BS process. Now people can get/exchange information from all types of sources and make a choice on their own. SDA is a great example obviously. Of course the globalist neo-Marxists fight back. The MSM has changed conservative to neo-con and to alt-right. They like their branding because they know it works and that’s why they’re trying to claim the right to determine “fake news” even though they’re the perpetrators as much as Russians or Chicoms. They’ve made the words populist and nationalist negative. Shutting down sites will continue. Censorship will grow. The CPC has essentially censored Rebel. Robinson won’t be the last to go to jail and I wouldn’t be surprised if Butts starts getting people thrown in jail, the more the merrier knowing that bag of shyte. Especially when PM POS starts really going down the instability path his mother trod so well.

As the Arctic summer ice melt approaches its peak, we can say with high certainty that this year’s ice melt will extend the trend of a rebounding Arctic ice mass by another year.

Arctic summer sea ice now growing 12 years

  11. Canada is a very liberal country. A libertarian like Max could never lead a party to power. His best and highest use in politics is as a member of a party that can form government. A conscious to the social ‘conservatives ‘.
In party politics arguments take place in caucus not in public. Max didn’t seem to understand that. Too bad as he had something to offer. On his own I predict he will be insignificant.

    1. There are pros and cons to Bernier’s quitting the CPC. I like a lot of his points but have to think he could have worked within caucus to effect policy changes. Politics being what it is maybe I am naive.

The old adage “It all works until it doesn’t”, could come into play. Just as Trump’s future likely relies on GDP growth of
+ 3%, the same stands for Turdeau and indirectly Scheer. If the debt hammer drops and Canada’s economy collapses then the entire political leadership, Liebel, CPC and Dipper will suffer the fallout. Politicos like Max could cash in. I say this because the debt is a progressive legacy that IMHO the CPC has not distanced itself away from enough.

    2. But Max had a key place in the Big Tent. By not working with him Scheer exposed himself as an inept fool. He alienated half his base. Max for PM in 2023 – if he isn’t already premier of Quebec.

      1. ▪@ 10:26 am scar
” – if he isn’t already premier of Quebec.”

Or the President of a new Nation… just sayin’

  12. To those here who are expressing their reasonable concern that …”Bernier just cost the CPC the next election!”, I say…

    So What!?!

I see Canada as a freight train at full throttle heading towards a (hopefully)still distant cliff. No matter which party is at the throttle, the Liberal stokers(media/bureaucracy) are always there shoveling furiously. All Harper’s majority ever accomplished was to drag the brakes a little. I see a Scheer-led government as accomplishing even less in stopping this inevitable wreck.

Nope, the status quo simply cannot be allowed to continue and I welcome this disruption, however brief, to the CPC’s slow and steady drift to the left. Bernier may be doing this for the unrepresented Conservatives out there or he may very well be a political narcissist, but I intend to give him the full chance to prove which.

    1. Exactly.
Feathering the brakes was Mr Harpers greatest achievement.
I suspect he came to that realization as well.

  13. As putrid as Scheer is we have to stick together and get POS out of power Max is gone he should have won the leadership race but he didn’t.hold your nose and vote

    1. “hold your nose and vote”

I don’t have to. I’m voting for Max. And if no-one runs here, I will, as should all his supporters here, if there is no local candidate.

I lived through the Alberta PCs signing up every school teacher in the province to elect Stelmach and Redford, both clueless socialists. They were socialists on the scale of Rachel Notley, maybe even more so. If a Conservative Party can’t be conservative or even use conservative buzz words, there is nothing in it for me.

  14. Max’s leap of faith that he can form a party of true hard conservatives may be a blessing that we are overlooking. The conservative voting block that comprises roughly 30% of the Canadian population will always vote conservative as will the 30% that will always vote Liberal. The 15-20% that vote NDP will always vote NDP. The secret to attaining political power in Canada is the ability to sway the 20% of the population that are swing voters. Therein lies the silver lining of the Bernier commitment. If Max can sway enough Quebec and Ontario voters with his stance on the migrant crisis, if he can sway enough of the hunters in Ontario and the West with his opposition to more gun control, if he can sway enough taxpayers across the country by opposing the carbon taxon and the Paris accord, and recommit to Harper’s crime and punishment stance, then he will have enough support to stymy both Trudeau and Scheer as he will hold a balance of power in a minority government with either party. The election of 2019 will be a fast track to the return of a truly conservative government. With a balance of power Max can bring down either a spendthrift Liberal government or a Conservative government that is not conservative enough.

I’ve voted conservative all my life and in retirement I’ve finally been able to afford small donations to the conservative party. I’ve been disappointed by the last election where the Conservative seemed to have thrown the election. Maybe they were expecting a Liberal minority win in which they could have caused a quick election after the Liberals screwed up. Didn’t happen and we’re all paying for it. As a result we now have a milquetoast conservative party that I do not feel worthy or deserving of my money or franchise. Max may be the recipient of donations from many like minded Canadians who want to see what his platform will be.

  15. LOL LOL LOLLOLLOLLOL RE: Those holier than thou CPC faithful deriding Bernier and calling for unity.
    Lest we forgot: https://nationalpost.com/opinion/andrew-coyne-tories-cry-foul-as-maxime-bernier-spills-the-beans-er-milk-on-leadership-race

“””You would think this would be something of a scandal. The leadership race was hijacked by members of a vested interest who not only had no prior involvement with the party, but most likely wished it ill: what in civilized countries are called “entryists.” The winner of the race, the party’s current leader, sold himself and the party, not just to the highest bidder, but to a particularly venal bidder at that, with a direct financial interest in the outcome.”””

AND “..fellow MP sternly admonished [Bernier] that this sort of “freelancing” — taking a public position on a matter of public policy — is “an unacceptable challenge to the caucus, to the leader.” … Bernier was accused, variously, of naivete, hypocrisy, vanity, divisiveness and sour grapes… He knew the rules going in. He signed up his share of new members. This is the way it’s always been. Etc. “

LOLLOLOLOLLOLLOOO. “This is the way it has always been” Abuse of the democratic process = disdain for the electorate and then they appeal for our votes.

  16. Those advocating for a conserative win next year are truly blind. The bills are coming due and Canada is broke
Who do you think the media will blame? Trudeau? The Liberals? No they will blame Conseratives. There will be no hundred dollar oil, no economic resurgence, no miracle boom, no prosperity. There isn’t an economic savior on the horizon.
Your best bet is to put your money in a safe place and pray the government doesn’t try to steal it. Better to watch the collapse and be ready with a viable rescue plan. Anything else is just whistling past the graveyard.
    JMHO

    1. Yes that is a plausible outcome.
The polls currently before Bernier’s announcement had the liberals at a disadvantage, if Max starts taking some of the thunder from the Sockmonkey this could possibly, and I stress possibly, point to a minority government.
I cannot with any validity predict that is the result, just that it is one of the possible outcomes.
If as you predict is true, the most damaging outcome to the liberal party would be a liberal minority where the NDP does not have sufficient seats to prop up the liberals. After the Sockmonkey has spent this mandate burning bridges, its doubtful he could find enough support inside the NDP and begging the CPC at that point would also be a poison pill that the Sockmonkey wouldn’t be able to stomach.
If there is a CPC minority how hard would it be for Scheer and Max to bury the hatchet at that point and come to terms to keep the Sockmonkey out of the PMO? The delicious irony then would be the predictable outcries of how undemocratic FPTP is and then the hard left would blame the Sockmonkey for allowing the conservatives to form a government.
But that my friend is just a theoretical outcome, not the actual outcome.

Bernier is additional evidence of this, from both perspectives, ie his opponents and supporters.
