  1. Really like everything about this breed…. except the whole berserk thing.
The video which followed the first

was most illustrative of the energy level in a non training situation. “A German Shepard on speed” I believe was one of the better descriptions. Really sharp looking animal but … wow… I’ll pass.

That’s one jihad, who’s not going to the garden(9.111)… but straight to the hot place.

Saving Western Civilization from the predations of Islamic jihad, via man’s best friend.

Discouraging/reversing illegal hijra migrants is looking more feasible.

It should not be surprising, then, that the US government is now cracking down on Americans who have outstanding tax bills — by holding their passports hostage. This could affect more than 360,000 Americans.

Former Congressman Bob Barr notes this week :

In an extremely troubling move three years ago, the Republican-controlled Congress handed the Internal Revenue Service the power to strip individuals of one of the most important and tangible rights possessed by American citizens – their passports. The Service is now starting to use this hammer.

Barr rightly points out that, given we already know the IRS uses its power to target political enemies, this new power of the agency is especially troubling.

He also asks how long other agencies might demand similar power from Congress, such as the power to stop a citizen’s ability to “secure a driver’s license, obtain[…] a loan from a federally-insured financial institution, or clear[…] a background check prior to purchasing a firearm?”

These sorts of powers have long been used by abusive and authoritarian states. But the ability to regulate movement through emigration and travel controls are especially attractive to states.

In the United States of 2018, though, you’re only free to leave if the IRS says so — and as long as you keep paying taxes to the US government indefinitely, no matter where you are. Many of the anti-emigration laws of nineteenth-century Europe looks positively enlightened in comparison.

    1. That’s OK, they can just move to Canada. “Send us your poor and your tax dodgers”.
Actually, given it’s the IRS, “… and your Tea Partiers”.

    2. Since “No taxation without representation!” was such a rallying cry, I think they’re going about this the wrong way.

The voter’s list should be cross-linked with the taxation rolls. Anyone over 6 months overdue on their taxes (who is not actively disputing their case) doesn’t get to vote.

    1. Alberta schools are the same. Instead of repairing schools, school boards do nothing for 30 years, then convince the provincial government that they need new schools. Shouldn’t schools last 100 or 200 years?

  6. I was getting a little cranky last week, getting ready to have my corporate taxes completed and knowing how our stupid government operates. So I decided to take my anger out on Bell Canada (sorry Bell). I reviewed my corporate account and came up with $120/mn in savings (dropping a phone line and portable Internet fob etc). Total savings of $1,440 a year requiring a patient 20 minute phone call with Bell and then enduring 2 days of Bell call-backs trying to get me to reconsider and offers of cheaper rates for the same products. I stood firm. Boy they offer same-day disconnection!

I highly recommend this form of saving the world from global warming (which I told the operator was the cause for the service cancellation). If you use less services, it costs you less money, therefore you don’t have to work as hard and use less energy.

But then the Superior Propane guy showed up and on the bill was a carbon tax. What? In Ontario? I’m grumpy again. Next stop, Rogers Communications.

    1. Steve, thanks for this. I am thinking of trimming the number of channels from my Rogers cable, fed up as I am with all of the left-wing channels on the list. There is supposed to be a pick-and-pay system, supposedly.

      1. Good luck. I once tried to reduce the number of channels and therefore costs, remembering that I specifically ordered 2 extra channels. After some time the cable company cut 1 of the aforementioned channels off without explanation. When I contacted them they said the two “Encore Movie” channels were now amalgamated. There was no reduction in price. When I told them I no longer wanted the one channel, they said they could not remove it because it was now a part of the ” complete package”. You’ll hear that a lot.

Years later they called and asked whether I had time to do a survey with them. I told them that I wasn’t pleased about how they handled this earlier matter.

After many years I finally switched companies and was more careful about ” bundling” channels. I like the system I now have because I’m able to record up to 4 shows concurrently and I am no longer a slave to time. Besides, it’s a lot of fun to fast forward that which I do not want to view. I highly recommend the P.V.R. system. Wish I got this sooner.

        1. I highly recommend the P.V.R. system.

PVRs are little more than specialized computers. A few years ago, many models were notorious for being bug-ridden, resulting in frequent malfunctions.

Once I’m finished settling my father’s estate, I plan on moving, which will mean having to get another cable TV connection. The only commercial channel I watch now is AMC, only because it has shows like Better Call Saul, so I’ll probably subscribe to it.

Aside from that, I mainly watch movies, but I’ve usually seen most of them already. I’ll probably get those on DVD eventually and drop Encore Avenue (which hasn’t been all that good after it changed owners) and TCM (which tends to show the same flicks over and over again).

          1. Yes, I stand corrected, B A, the switch made here was from Shaw to Telus, irrespective of the specialized computer, the P.V.R. which is also available with Shaw, I suppose. Mea culpa. In a nutshell, re: ” MOVIES”…

There is Crave TV on one channel #411 which is vast: within this one Channel one can dial up: 113 Comedies, 89 Dramas, 94 Showtime shows, 402 HBO shows, ( and series ) 159 Discovery Channel shows, 44 Documentaries, 93 Movies & Specials (yes, all the James Bond movies) 39 Music items, ( music documentaries and specials), 33 Reality TV shows, 6 Sports events, ( latest events), and 4 Food & Lifestyle series. These are updated of course, from time to time, as needed. Also, one can separately get, the 2 H.B.O. channels (East & West) and the latest movies on the MOVIE CHANNELS 1, 2, 3, AND East MC 1, as a package. The Encore channels are available and the Turner Classic Channel as well. There are also 4 Hollywood Suite Channels plus the dial up “On Demand”, of these 4 channels. Each separate channel is divided into categories by decade as to when the Movies were released, ie: the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. These are what I subscribe to ( & like) but there are still more, as far as movie channels go…check online, I’m not familiar with these. Nevertheless, you would not be disappointed, I’m sure.

So, in general there’s : the Major Networks, Timeshift, Entertainment Movies and Series, Comedy and Music, Kids and Family, Learning, News, Sports, Pay per View, French and Multicultural, and Radio & Galaxie Music.

Last year they gave away a free 43″ H.D. television if one signed up. The year before, it was a free box with every t.v. that one owned. This year, I haven’t heard what the sign up prize was, if any, but I can say that Telus ate Shaw’s lunch for awhile. They were going door- to-door here, in this neighborhood.

Good luck with your choice, hope this was of some help to you.

( I have no vested interest in any television cable company other than being an avid T.V. viewer and a subscriber of their said systems )

    2. You should write a sitcom. I especially liked your reasoning around saving the world from global warming. Come to think of it, the world needs a global warming comedy show. The situation is now quite absurd. I recommend something with Climate Barbie with her gushing bafflegab as a major character.

“Greenland and Arctic record cold and snow are once again being blamed on “climate change,” according to an article in Scientific American. The July 13 article declares a “Lost Summer for Greenland” as “a record late snowpack—lingering into July” harms the shorebirds breeding season.

Jeroen Reneerkens, an avian ecologist at the University of Groningen who has studied Greenland’s shorebirds since 2003, expressed bewilderment at the winter conditions in summer.

“The tundra was 100 percent covered in snow, and it was a very deep layer,” he says, estimating an average depth of about one meter. “It was a big shock to see the place like that,” he added.”

  8. Is this not true for any working breed of dog? I just hate it when people get a dog that needs to run, or needs a job etc and wonder why it “misbehaves”.

    1. Alla aaS, do you know what a dog is, have you ever seen one, much less owned one. By your post you show your ignorance on one more topic, dogs.

    2. It is true Allan. I also hate it when people get a working dog (or any large dog) and then cage it or confine it to the house or apartment. It’s cruel and demonstrates their vanity and lack of understanding of dog psychology.

My neighbor is like this. He got a beautiful puppy. It grew into a big beautiful active dog. It was kept mostly in a kennel cage. One day it turned on him …… and I was secretly glad.

I’ve had dogs my whole life and I understand dog psychology very well. I rarely encourage people to get a dog because I believe they have no understanding of what is involved in really caring for such animals which live for many years and display such remarkable intelligence and loyalty.

  9. Took a dog to the vet this week. She commended me on the condition of the dog and it’s good manners. She said, “it’s a pleasure to have a dog like this after what has come through here today (mindless bragging).

Dogs go nuts in the clinic she told me. they lose their minds and defecate and get aggressive – they fear bite. She’s been at it 25 years – said it’s getting worse.

The world has too many dogs and too few real dog owners.

  11. Wind farm = environmental catastrophe
10 years into a supposed 20yr. service life…. and look at all the freaking wasted money on this SCAM!
    DO consider the source:
    https://www.energycentral.com/news/retiring-worn-out-wind-turbines-could-cost-billions-nobody-has
“With more than 50,000 wind turbines spinning in the United States, decommissioning costs are estimated at around $10 billion. …landowners and counties could be on the hook for tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars… Or … some areas… become post-apocalyptic wastelands steepled with teetering and fallen wind turbines, locked in a rigor mortis of obsolescence.”

    1. Exactly. “Wind energy” from turbines is no more “sustainable” than an oil well with a known 20 year reserve.

“NTSB: Model S battery caught fire twice after Florida crash

It highlights ongoing volatility in EV batteries for Tesla and others.”

“It’s not unheard of for cars to catch fire in a crash, but there are now instances of Tesla cars’ batteries reigniting well after the fact.

As part of a preliminary report on a Model S crash in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, NTSB investigators revealed that a piece of the EV’s lithium-ion pack reignited twice despite firefighters dousing it with water and foam. It first reignited when crews were removing the car from the crash scene, and again when it arrived at a storage yard.

The same report also detailed the crash itself, noting that the sedan was traveling at 116MPH before it collided twice with a residential wall, catching fire the second time around. Tesla has since instituted a speed limiting feature to prevent these kinds of incidents.

As The Verge observed, there have been fires like this in the past.

The battery in the Model X from a Mountain View crash reignited five days after sitting in an impound lot, while actress Mary McCormack captured her husband Michael Morris’ Model S erupting into flames despite the absence of a collision. This may be the most prominent example, however.

    Tesla has declined to comment.”

    1. That was s good article. Funny, I don’t remember Harper “fear mongering”. Most of what he said was entirely sensible. Now “Soldiers in the streets.” — that was fear mongering. Harper was also calm and measured during the economic downturn, while Liberals were getting hysterical. Maybe Hussein did not live in Canada during Harper’s tenure.

  14. After the défilé down the Champs-Élysées this morning, TV5 covered what was clearly a French military public affairs opportunity to display some capabilities to the public during la Fête nationale: French special forces staged a “hostage rescue” exercise on a conference centre.

One interesting touch involved the exercise hostage-takers: they were quite clearly portrayed as Islamist extremists. I wonder why?

Oh, and just to keep my comments on topic, the special forces brought a dog with them who did a rapid takedown of one hostage-taker.

    1. More on Germany’s coal industry…

“Germany is Europe’s largest producer and burner of coal, which accounted for 40.3 percent of net power production in 2017: 15.5 percent from hard coal and 24.8 percent from lignite, also known as brown coal, among the dirtiest of fossil fuels, which Germany mines more of than any other country in the world. Germany’s electricity sector itself is responsible for more than a third of the country’s CO2 emissions. Even more damning: Germany is still digging new open-cast mine pits — as well as subsidizing the industry as a whole, although it has promised to phase out coal in the indefinite future (hard coal use will end in 2018). Among Europe’s power plants, Germany’s brown coal stations constitute six out of 10 of the worst polluters. The lignite power plants, which run 24/7 year-in, year-out, produce so much power that German utilities sell the surplus abroad.”

      https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/11/13/germany-is-a-coal-burning-gas-guzzling-climate-change-hypocrite/

      1. Steve, clearly the German plan is to shut down the coal when the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is completed. This will put the Germans in a position to claim a victory for climate change virtue but put them at the mercy of the Russians who could shut off the gas supply at the tap. It’s a trade off. And not a good one either.
