In case we haven’t noticed that big environment’s pr hacks have been chumming the news cycle waters ( DEAD FISH! DEAD FISH! ),  a Frenchman is swimming  “9,000km to raise awareness of ocean pollution”.

Part adventurer, part environmentalist, Lecomte hopes to raise awareness of plastic contamination and ocean pollution, and his support team will conduct a raft of experiments on the trip, expected to take between six to eight months.

 

Part of his daunting swim takes him through the Texas-sized vortex of garbage that floats between Hawaii and California, where tangled plastic will pose extra dangers. His team will collect water samples to learn more about the build-up of micro-plastics littering the area.

It’s always “Texas-sized”.  Sometimes “twice the size of Texas“.

Like it’s Texas’ fault.

So, here’s some “awareness”:  it’s not our plastic. 

They’re just looking for  another excuse to tax us.

  1. What this tells me is the AGW hoax has run its coarse and just like that hole in the oxone you will see less and less news porn about it as the communists move to the more fashionable plastic sea crisis.

  2. Yet no one has seen this vortex, so the plastic became nano particles that are invisable . If such a thing existed it would be tire wear .

    1. if such a thing is there then why are the enviornmentalists not out there scooping it up with giant nets. it should be an easy thing to do.

      2. IIRC there have been several expeditions that set out to do just that. Unfortunately (for them), they couldn’t find the island of plastic that they were going to clean up.

        Because nature abhors a vacuum, and loves a food source.

    It must be our wasteful North American lifestyles? Right?

    Between 410,000 and 4 million metric tons of ocean plastic a year, with 88 to 95 percent coming from only 10 polluting rivers.
    The ten rivers are:
    In East Asia:
    Yangtze
    Yellow
    Hai He
    Pearl
    Amur
    Mekong
    In South Asia:
    Indus
    Ganges Delta
    In Africa:
    Niger
    Nile

    Where is the Mississippi River on this list? Hudson River? Columbia River? Amazon River? Danube? Volga? White? Rhine? Loire? All these rivers combined contribute ten percent or less?

    1. Between 410’000 and 4 million… that’s quite a span. Wonder how they figured it out. And it couldn’t be the bottom figure ist just plain 400’000 ?
      I’m sure with numbers like these for a result I would have failed every math exam. 5 + 5 is something between 9.5 and 100. 🙂

    3. However … It is rapidly becoming our problem! Why? Because we are importing these 3rd world PIGS into our clean, Western, capitalistic countries at alarming rates. We DON’T live like PIGS … they DO! We recycle. We have created sanitary landfills. They haven’t.

      Sorry. Call me “racist” … but I am the person who leaves the wilderness with the TRASH left behind by others (ostensibly, the “environmentalists” who were there before me). I literally HATE pigs who throw bottles and cans and trash out of their automobile windows. I don’t want any of these PIGGISH peoples in my nation.

    4. I agree,it ain’t our fault, but this WILL give our governments licence to tax the hell out of us,and all we’ll do is bitch to ourselves.

      Just to again vie for my Order de Canader, I suggest the federal and Provincial governments enact a ten cents per plastic item tax immediately, on every damned thing that contains plastic. That should bring in several hundred million in extra dough to piss away of pc causes.

Those of us who are old enough can still recall when plastic bags were first introduced to supermarkets and elsewhere, replacing the then ubiquitous paper bags – the enviro types of the time heralded the move as a start to “Save the rainforests everywhere” – just one more example of not thinking things through.

    1. Just like the paper bags were huge progress over people having to bring their own cloth bags. The public hygiene aspects were lauded, no more contaminating this week’s food with last week’s drippings.

      Some lessens will have to be re-learned. Just like the hippies in the 1960s learned the hard way that yes, crotch rot is a real thing when you don’t wash….

  5. If only we could make shopping bags out of some kind of biodegradable renewable material that was made out of some sort of large plant that grew in the forests….

    1. We could power the facilities that process these plants using energy from the sun that had been stored deep underground for millions of years…

    2. If only plastic bags were made out of something burnable and it could be used in power plants as fuel in countries like Sweden where they even import garbage to burn.

    1. The best solution to this problem would be to hire a Liberal consulting firm to recommend action by Liberal construction,mining, or pollution cleanup companies. The contracts should be worth billions and plenty of votes.

      The object of the whole exercise is to spread the wealth of the Nation among your Liberal friends,after all.

  8. Years ago I was crew on a forty-five foot sailboat sailing from Honolulu to Victoria. We sailed through this mass of plastic junk for days on end; so it’s real. But as rd points out, virtually all of it comes from Asia. Pointing fingers at Europeans and North American’s won’t do a damn bit of good.

    Expropriate all the fruits of our labour and drive us into extinction, so they can replace us with people too stupid to organize successful slave revolts and happy to live in a pool of their own excrement, while a few thousand of our betters enjoy untold wealth and idleness, and immunity from any human law—including any law that would stop them from stealing little boys from the slums to rape and murder. That’s what our betters want.

    Higher taxes indeed. Their goal is the annihilation of the peoples of Europe and their posterity in North America. White genocide. You know what they want, say it.

When I was in Ireland and Scotland last summer I was shocked at the amount of plastic bottle/tin can garbage was on the streets/ditches, etc. Coming from SK where we have a good system through SARCAN to get that stuff off the streets I was very proud (plus when I walk my dog I always manage to pick up a couple of bottles/cans that I can take to SARCAN – that dog has to earn some money to pay for his toys!). The big debate in the UK papers is how to contain all of this – for some reason they can’t see that a SARCAN system might work. Don’t know if SARCAN is the solution, but it at least deals with some of the problem.

    There is now some movement in the left leaning newspapers to criticize that recycling no longer makes sense and that most of the recyclables just end up in landfill, but in designated space. One line about how incineration technology makes burning garbage and recyclables feasible (with little pollution) but it is quickly dismissed in favour of – wait for it – increased taxes!

      Recycling never did make sense. Civil engineers in Europe have been saying it made no sense for over a decade. China, which was taking much of our recyclables, in saying “No More”.

      Part of the problem is that these people in Asia and South Asia just toss their garbage. These same people are earmarked as prime immigration candidates by our “Diversity is Our Strength” idiot government and Canada is starting to look like the Shitholes these people crawled out of. Hey Government, it isn’t the land that makes AssCrackistan a Shithole. It’s the people and their backward cultures.

        Was ……………… Afroz Shah, who along with volunteers, for about 3 years has been cleaning up Mumbi’s incredibly garbage littered Versova beach.

        And this in the face of bureaucratic and cultural indifference and even harassment. Although completely discouraged at one point and ready to quit the effort, he did persist and the contrast in the beach between start and now couldn’t be greater.
        It’s accurate to point out that this is very largely an Asian problem but regardless, I try to remain optimistic.

  13. Yes, the morons running the government of Canada have concerns about the world.
    As for this country, its taxed people are just a nuisance, a background noise.
    They, the government morons, have to deal with the world and make a name, money, a lot of money, dine in the finest restaurants, fly the world, everything paid for by the people getting up in the morning and going to work to make a living while the government morons legalize theft of every damned penny that they can possibly take.

    The way it is and increasingly so it that those that actually produce wealth of the country are supplying cash for every damn useless socialist program that the government morons can come up with.
    You see they, the government morons have to do all this garbage of necessity and they would not have a job otherwise. They are completely and utterly useless and would probably end up like the kids in India, on the garbage heap.

  14. I was going to give them some money but then I remembered our money is PLASTIC. As they hate plastic I couldn’t use cash, debit or credit. Tough luck.

  15. We dont need to an plastic we just got to learn how to dispose of it properly like recycling and cutting up these soda can collars and making it more biodegradible but not allow this to still allow for littering

  17. Not only is the plastic not our fault (except for cities like Victoria that dump raw sewage into the ocean), half of it is the fault of one industry: fishing. 46% of the oceanic waste plastic is abandoned fishing nets. That doesn’t include “other fishing gear”.
