Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

How concerned is May about fossil fuels?
So concerned that she flew from Ottawa to Vancouver to attend a protest, and then fly half way around the world for the vitally important:
“Elizabeth May and 18 other Canadian MPs are in the Middle East this weekend representing the Canada-Palestinian Parliamentary Friendship Group.”
Jail may be the only way to reduce her addiction to carbon.
“Jail may be the only way to reduce her addiction to carbon.”
It may be the only way she can get the treatment she needs. We all pray that she will be fully rehabilitated and be able to return as a productive member of society once she gets out of jail.
Then she would have to get a job in the private sector but that face is obviously meant for a trough.
She never was a productive member of society so therefore there is nothing she can return to. By the way if she were convicted of a criminal offense here in Canada would that mean that she could no longer cross into the USA. After all she would then be a convicted felon in the eyes of US Border enforcement. Or would the fact that she still holds US Citizenship mean she is still admissible while being an elected Member of the Canadian Parliment. Talk about your double standards?
double stds for sure. feel free to fess up to US border security about pot use and you may possibly never get in again.
except if you’re kimmy kim campbell, or, oh, mebbe mick jagger.
celebs are running things in that great bastion of equality.
I did not even bother to read the article because nothing is going to happen other than a bunch of government lawyers lining their pockets, just like always in good ol Canada.
They were all for protest-free zones until it came to an issue they didn’t agree with….
I smell a rat.
(No offense to the house gopher, of course.)
You may be proved right. When the Crown takes over a prosecution, it’s not always because they want to prosecute. Sometimes it is done so that the Crown can decide it is not in the public interest to pursue it, and they drop the matter, case closed. And it’s the Provincial prosecutors who have taken over this, not the Feds.
Isn’t she a beaut!
No offence to Don Cherry.
She better lay off the booze over there. The muzzies catch her with a jug of Jack and she might be in for a public flogging……
A criminal conviction might encumber her travel options.
They should flog her because she is, she is female right? That is reason enough.
We live in a liberal democracy. This means that we all have the right to object and protest, but not in a manner that prevents others from carrying out lawful activities. No matter how fervently we believe in our cause, no one person has the right to impose their beliefs on the rest. To do so is pure arrogance.
“We live in a liberal democracy” – where, unfortunately, increasingly fewer limits on government are there to prevent the imposition of collective beliefs upon the rest of us, “democratically”. These protests are theatre for the media to fan the flames of support for “democratic” action. At times I would actually prefer law of the jungle where no police were on site and real people involved would meet out a little kinetic justice. Lizzy in the slammer is likely more fodder for her base. Lizzy with corrective facial work might be an improvement, if not, at least a deterrent.
“We live in a Liberal democracy”… sorry, but no we don’t… we live in an imposed “constitutional democracy”, a Trudeau constitutional democracy, which is to say an ethno nationalist socialist ‘democracy” imposed without consent from the citizenry. May will not be charged.
Sean , that is 100% correct.
“If convicted on the charge of contempt of Court, would that mean that she is booted out of Parliament and loses her salary and pension?” he asked wishfully.
The answer is no. You can even be in jail when you run for office, so long as the sentence is not greater than one year.
And that’s a good thing. Let the electorate decide. Making people ineligible for election due to a criminal record is a favorite way for dictators to maintain their hold on power. President Maduro of Venezuela, for example, gets his sock-puppet courts to find opposition leaders guilty of trumped up charges, removing them from politics.
She should have disappeared from the Canadian political scene forever in 2015, seconds after Lisa Raitt dragged her away from the podium at that media wine-‘n’-dine in Ottawa.
On the other hand, she does represent the only real political comedy we get these days in Canada.
“On the other hand, she does represent the only real political comedy we get these days in Canada.”
Trudeau II must be a contender, although more tragi-comic I think.
Why do I think this will largely be a kangaroo court that will not result in any real pain for May, and may result in advancing the leftist agenda…
BINGO! WINNER WINNER Chicken Dinner.
This will be great theatre of course, no doubt resulting in a conditional discharge for Lizard and her fellow Marxist Kennedy, because politician.
Glad to see the charges, but I expect a farce.
Yep, thats the ticket all right… May will not be charged and if she is, the charges will be dropped or carry no punishment at all. Some are more equal than others and some are way more equal than others… as designed.
Ms May will be driven to use the F bomb profusely if they put her in the slammer. She was hauled off stage/rescued by Lisa Raitt at a press gallery dinner event where I’m think she used some choice language.
To top it off she had been studying to become an Anglican priest…not sure if she ever did get ordained. If the Anglican church has had dwindling numbers she will not help on that score.
Nothing will happen, charges will be dropped.
If convicted, she needs to be censured by Parliament.
We cannot have these brigands acting above the law, self-assured their cause is just.
No it isn’t. If lawmakers can’t respect the rule of law, then we have a corrupt political culture.
The Rhinos were better because they knew they were farce. Incredible as it sounds, Dizzy takes herself seriously which should be sufficient to get her locked up in a rubber room.
Those that were arrested with her … except other politicians …. will not be happy if they go to jail while May gets to go free and return to Parliament. LIEberal’s/tRUDEau’s justice system at work for law breakers.
Hopefully the First Nations community can get some time off work and start banging their drums in protest at this outrage. Elizabeth May is a true Canadian!
Ms. May already gets substantially more coverage than she warrants. This will just give her more. At the end she will get a $250 fine or something, and have received tens of thousands of dollars worth of free publicity.
Svend Robinson ver2, nothing will happen.
Our MPs are a special class incapable of breaking the law according to our dire “justice” system.
She will agree to make a donation to a shelter for orphaned indigenous beavers with fetal alcohol syndrome and the charges will be dropped.
A criminal conviction will bolster her already insignificant CV. She could now be a librano cabinet minister. I’m not sure why bongo passed her over when appointing the cabinet? She’s a favorite of his (senate material).
Apply to her the same standard applied to pro-life protestors outside abortion clinics. One woman who protests peacefully has spent years in jail as a result. I won’t hold my breath though. Liberal “activist” judges never have and never will believe in one law for all.
Silly DrD,
The reason is that everyone knows that the life of a tree is much more important than the life of a child.
‘Considering’ a charge means it’s all fluff. They will drop the charges after a big show in the courts. The only people that can possibly be convicted and punished for anything in this has-been country are white, Christian, conservative males .. they are all guilty of everything and anything whilst everyone else is their victim.
That is how we roll in Canada nowadays.
It’s all farce and it can’t last.
Andrew Weaver is letting May do his dirty work.
May won’t get any jail time, perhaps spend a night in a city cell so she can have a photo op, but this action will definitely inspire her constituency and May will be reelected in’19 and forever after as long as she wants to sit in parliament. The Green Party now has their Joan of Arc. The Tyee will be fairly frothing in ecstasy over May’s “courageous” stand against EVIL BIG OIL! Order of Canada, maybe a Nobel Prize……….Perhaps May’s countenance will grace the new $100 bill.
Most likely the Crown will decide not to press charges as they know it’s a waste of resources.
The only fly in the ointment is the position the courts took with the vandals who laid waste to their city following Vancouvers loss in the Stanley Cup finals in 2011. Some of those wastes if skin got jail time as I recall.
I’d settle for a public flogging administered by one of lizzies muzzie hero’s.
Good. Can she vote from jail?
… and FINE the HELL out of HER!
“Those that were arrested with her … except other politicians …. will not be happy if they go to jail while May gets to go free…”
Are you kidding? They will see her as a martyr regardless of whether she is convicted or not. Joan of Arc indeed. On a constitutional level it opens up a similar defence to anyone: “My moral imperative supersedes the law of the land and allows me to disobey the law” – unless I refuse to participate in a gay wedding service of course – then I’m subject to the full weight of the law of course.
There is no way she will receive a criminal conviction. The others that were arrested with her may.
Svend Robinson murdered Sue Rodriguez and wasn’t even charged.
The left’s moral superiority always wins in our justice system.
Now maybe we can deport her back to her Yankee homeland.
