A 78-year-old homeowner has been arrested by murder detectives after a suspected burglar he fought with in his own kitchen died of a stab wound. The pensioner was upstairs asleep with his wife when he was woken by the two men breaking into his suburban home…
So what’s a little murder charge on a 78 year old going to impact, he wasn’t going to use that screwdriver for anything good at 2 am now was he? The UK cops certainly aren’t going to go after any real criminals, those guys fight back. The cops are putting enormous effort into keeping this 78 year old locked up, almost as much effort as a UK politician will expend searching playgrounds for their next date.
Yet the real body count on the london streets rises and khan shrugs his shoulder’s. I guess people dying on the street is just part and parcel of life these days, but burglars getting murdered while on the job is ‘hitlerian’ and must be stopped.
the police in this instance need to be arrested and then paraded before the populace with big signs around their necks saying they are stupid.

As Steyn says, in the UK everything is policed but crime. In this case it sounds like justice administered by a citizen is considered the offense. When citizens are nothing more than state chattel, only the state can pretend to defend them as police can only deter and clean up the scene after the fact. Without the right to self defense there is no right to life.
I assume it would have been OK if the fellow had stabbed the intruder with a screwdriver?
Of course, it would have to be the same length of screwdriver as the burglar’s, not one of those sawed-off ones…

If there is one thing bungling government bureaucrats (unfortunately that would now appear to include the police) hate, it’s competition. While giving the shrug to criminals, since arresting them is hard and makes it difficult to drive up the statistics they need to please the higher ups, they’ll attack like screaming banshees a private citizen defending themselves since that private citizen’s act of self-defence shows up the bureaucrats for the spineless, useless deadwood that they are. I recall that case where he fired warning shots…none of the perps were injured (unfortunate that), and it is Ian defending his home and property that gets Absolutely SCREWED over.
One wonders if a guy is alone on his property up North somewhere in the West and a Grizzly decides it wants in, you shoot it – kill it. The most basic human right is the right to defend yourself against a predator, whether that predator in animal or human should be irrelevant. If your life is endangered you should have the right to use what ever means necessary including fire arms in self defense.
