I can't remember the last time I read a piece about people's rights that even bothered to measure them against responsibilities. The left, obsessed with minority 'rights', wouldn't know a personal responsibility if it jumped up and bit them on the ass.

Anyways, I submit that age is a piss-poor way to accurately gauge any individual's level of maturity. There are probably some pretty mature 16 year olds out there and I have certainly met some scarily immature 50 year olds.

Our NDP government here in B.C. has floated the idea of lowering the voting age to 16,apparently the idea came from Green party leader Andrew (lawsuits) Weaver.

The Left know how easily fooled young people are,if we gave teenagers the vote,the Country would really turn into Venezuela North, in short order.

Uggh. Thanks for reminding me that a 13yo girl can get an abortion without parental consent, yet cannot sign herself out of school to get it (Planned Parenthood ... in loco parentis .. has to do that for them).

She and her 18-year-old hubby can raise their baby in their happy home, but they can’t purchase a handgun to protect their family until they turn 21. Even if they are members of the military, trained on weapons including fully automatic guns, they can’t get a concealed carry permit for the handgun they can’t buy. For some reason their baby’s right to be protected isn’t as important as one whose parents are 21.

President Trump on Monday suggested he still supports raising the minimum age for purchasing a gun despite the idea being left out of a White House proposal released over the weekend.

In two morning tweets, the president reiterated his support for strengthening background checks, arming school officials and banning bump stocks.

The president also said he supports raising the age for purchasing rifles to 21, but said there is not enough political support to make the idea law.

IMHO ... the voting age should be RAISED to the same age one can no longer be covered by their parents health care. I'm one of those people who had 2-children and a mortgage at age 26 ... whose parents were both collecting social security as their only means of support ... and were in no position to provide my families medical insurance.

This whole notion of a bottomless childhood ... needs to carry with it ... NO ADULT PRIVILEGES until you're actually an ADULT. Yeah, and if that includes gun ownership ... fine. No voting till age and no gun ownership till age 26. I'll make that trade ... all day long.

a truly mature 16 yo will realize it is merely an issue of chronology; older people showed up first.

they will bide their time, investigating and learning the practical skills, factual knowledge and analytical skills needed in the near future.

they will also know it is an exceptionally DANGEROUS notion from self serving agendists to hand out voting rights like halloween treats,
and in fact might at least privately OPPOSE the attempt, knowing full well the childishness of their quasi-peers.

do NOT use the fact that some of them are far beyond their years to open the fcukin' lion's cage of 16 yr old voting rights.
leave THAT one in high school.

Just because this Liberal caucus looks and acts like a student council, we shouldn't make that a permanent aspiration.
