RE: mental illness. Torn here. Clearly a lot of people should be institutionalized, but should the state be institutionalizing them? This lead to a lot of civil rights problems back in the day. Then again, these people are often being locked up in jails that are worse for them.

True, true, other than that whole "illegal alien apparently too lazy even to try to get legal citizenship being appointed to a BS political sinecure" part you seemed to have missed.
It's impossible for many people to get legal citizenship in America, that's why illegal immigration happens. That's the fault and problem of the USG. It's on them to make immigration easy or suffer the consequences.

You really are special, aren't you - there is no reason why any country should "make immigration easy" and/or take in any riffraff that shows up on their borders, and the option for the illegals anywhere is to get shipped back to from whence they came; the illegals should suffer the consequences of their illegal actions - I know that is an advanced concept for you.
The government doesn't have the right to do that. Your country is not your club. Freedom of movement and freedom of association require open immigration. You're only allowed to keep out terrorists, the infectious, spies, etc.
So according to unme we should keep the riff raff out. I wonder who else would be included in his etc category. I would suppose that he would be in tears if we actally kept someone out merely because we don't follow his guidelines
