I, For One, Welcome Our New Self-Driving Overlords

we need to have spike strips issued to schools for this contingency.
the tesla fans need to watch a couple episodes of 'Mayday' where the ginormous level of automation makes the pilots less effective.
dumb it down, dumb it down, dumb it down.

ooooooor maybe the 'Terminator' franchise.

if you give a driverless tesla the finger does it still count?

" the ginormous level of automation makes the pilots less effective."

The benefits clearly outweigh the problems.

This is but a bump in the road, so to speak. The dawn of the self-driving car approaches.

The self driving stuff all relies on optics and it doesn't work in snow.

Ceding control of your life to someone or something else ... never ... ends well. Yet that is ALL the Left seeks ... total control ... over every aspect of your life.

One less Elon Musk death trap on the road. Good riddance.

The people who banned Steven Crowder from Youtube and Twitter would never tell you what you can do with your car.

All is not as it seems. According to Google Translate,

WORMERVEER - An operating error is the cause that a Tesla went thru Thursday afternoon in Wormerveer (municipality Zaanstad). According to the police, the 70-year-old driver wanted to drive away from a parking space when she made a mistake. The electric car shot forward, rammed a few poles and hit a cyclist
...
According to a Tesla spokesperson, the car was not equipped with the optional Autopilot system. "We are in contact with the authorities and give our full cooperation to determine exactly what has happened. Contrary to what was suggested in the media, the car in question is not equipped with the optional Autopilot system. "

Elderly driver, congested and attention diverting area, and a minor mistake? Maybe they thought it was in Reverse, not Drive?

It sounds a lot like, "I stepped on the brake, but the (Audi, Toyota, Jeep) just accelerated! The car was out of control!"

Related: flying self-driving taxis are coming to New Zealand, Dubai, and other places that aren't America.

Are they self piloted out of the same facility that does drone strikes?

Cult people are funny. Electric cars been failing continuously since 1832; but this time is different from all the others. Don't know when they started saying "flying cars are just around the corner", but people who want to believe will never stop believing.

I know a better way,let us skip the flying car,the self driving car and go straight to flying unicorns.
A personal comfort beast for those poor luvvies who are overwhelmed by current technology.
Everyone shall have one,by order of Justin Emperor of Canada.

Actually I can't wait for the first court case.
Self driving car versus reality.
So who has legal responsibility?
The owner?
The manufacturer?
The passenger?
One thing is certain,it will not fall upon the useless tits at Ministry of Transport who will ultimately give the manufacturers permission to experiment on all other drivers.Such permission will come, well before the technology is up to real world readiness.
Because Government.

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters.

Regarding the flying car/taxi, Anything to do with aviation is expensive. Good luck overcoming fuel, Power lines, cell phone towers, tall buildings, tree's, mechanical difficulties et al.

You think you're running your flying machines on electric and solar? Good luck! Keeping those things aloft takes a lot fuel and it won't be cheap.

Imagine all the flying cars in the colder climates that will be dripping de-ice fluid all over everything. I'm sure they'll do great in the London fog or when those dust storms get sucked into thirsty engines on windy Dubai days.

So, if someone develops a halfway effective autonomous road vehicle, how long before one ends up driving towards a school/church/mall packed with explosives and a remote detonator?

An autonomous vehicle is basically a cargo transporter. Someone is going to abuse that capability.

zat so unmebot, not if YOURE one of the passengers on an A380 that damned near augured in:

Qantas has an exceptionally enviable safety record, ALMOST gone along with 300 passengers BECAUSE OF AUTOMATION RUN AMOK.

feel free to drop by and get yer mouth bashed in, asswype.

Ive tried to poke holes in the licensing requirements for a botcar, but cant find out anything.
I wonder why the silent treatment? what's stopping some pimple faced basement dweller geek from
setting one loose just to see how much havoc it can cause? aka the malicious hacker mentality.

questions questions questions. perhaps unmebot can weigh in on this.
or just stand in front of one.

lol!!! gotta agree there Travis.
crikey, back in the bad old days of pulp science fiction, I thought, jeezuz murphy, *that's all we need*, DRUNK DRIVING in 3 dimensions.

the common and fundamental problem is these 'gurus' DONT think things through. and now the 'gurus' are in charge of finance, 'climate change' 'carbon tax' (or is that car gone tax?) and anything else not under guard 24/7

And ze al voted Hillary.

Based simply on my long (ago) sordid record of refusing to DRIVE 55 ... as Jimmy Carter MADE ME ... My drivers license would be limited to ONLY self-driving autos.

I remember when I got a new driver's licence that allowed me to speed legally.

It stated quite clearly, right on the back.... 'Tear along dotted line.'

I am sure the people behind this have put a great deal of thought into those things. RTFA. As for fog, there's this thing called 'radar' that might help.

"Qantas has an exceptionally enviable safety record, ALMOST gone along with 300 passengers BECAUSE OF AUTOMATION RUN AMOK."

I am sure it is less hazardous than human error.

I saw yesterday a truck hauling a Tesla while its headlight high beams were on and windshield wipers running. Very curious what that was about.

oooooh kenji.

I tooled down to key west on my motorcycle in the middle of the '55' era. the very legitimate complaint from truckers was 2 fold:
the friggin GEAR RATIOS were not suited to the slower speed, ergo LESS fuel efficient, AND the limitations on how much fuel they could buy at any one stop necessitated MORE stops thus MORE fuel wasted getting back up to speed.

very very typical of officialdom running amok and forcing schemes and measures that are *counterproductive* right from the start.

lucky for the truckers CB radio was in vogue so 'smokey' with their radar was soon known about for 50 mile radius.
