I know nothing about her except that she just took out Denis Coderre as mayor of Montreal. Good riddance.

(Huh. Who knew there was a pitbull vote?)

Gosh; Liberal Cabinet Minister Past loses a Key Liberal Party Insider Corruption pay-out source.

D'yall think Montreal voters are getting fed-up with Liberal Corruption. Nope

Au revoir, Denis le Cochon gros!!

And they said highschool fwench would never come in handy!

Effin EH!

Yahoooooooooooooooooo! Now Coderre can spend the rest of his retirement along the banks of the St. Lawrence picking up the rubber ducks and the condoms he dumped!! Liberals are adept at taking care of ''offshore'' interests!

Don't overlook the fact that he was also an asshole.

Considering how Liberals reward their own, I wouldn't be surprised if he'll be appointed to the Senate.

Don't get too excited. Projet Montreal is a cooky leftist party hell bent on civic socialism.

This is like the NDP winning Montreal instead of the Libranos

Even though I have nothing but utter contempt for the greasy slug Coderre, I wouldn't be expecting too much. The mayors office in Montreal, like everything else, is controlled by the Demarais family. Most likely through the help of the Rizuto Family (Gambino associates) Doesn't really matter who occupies the chair, the power behind it doesn't change.

Le corruption becomes La corruption.

What Snagglepuss (nicely said) and Sask Watch said.

Travis is right. It seems that cities have a fetish for voting in leftists of one sort or another to their city councils. Free lunch mentality. This becomes a national issue when some cities, like Burnaby and Vancouver now, can hold up provincial or inter-provincial infrastructure projects like Trans-Mountain.

Absolutely! Denis has been a very good little Liberal,he shall be rewarded.

The Senate,or maybe an ambassadorship to Denmark,Norway, Austria,or some other French speaking Country where his language skills and natural diplomacy will show Canada in a good light.

Agree. I will remind people of the axiom "Go with the devil you know!" Plante is pretty much unknown, but Projet Montreal is pretty far left. They probably would have stopped the pipeline as well if they were in charge. I make that assumption seeing that they did not speak out against Coderre's opposition to it.

The Montreal Mafia have a new Mayor, hooray! Yep, grimy Coderriere will be rewarded somehow someway for all his efforts in keeping the Mafia happy. Should be some fake Liberal job waiting in France for Monsewer Coderriere. The dogs will not be killed by order of the State thus frustrating and angering Liberals everywhere.

they elected another socialist, this time a female who is on record saying that she wants to spend one heck of a lot of a lot of money. should work out real good for the taxpayers there.

That'll have an effect on the taxpayers here too, unfortunately, thanks to equalization. Grrrr.

Cannot get even a 500,000 voters out in a city the size of Montreal! Perhaps the people there no what they will get even before the vote. Nothing will change.

Quebec is one of the most corrupt constituencies in NORTH AMERICA let along Canada. All functions of that society are corrupt. By extension since Ottawa is over weighted and dominated by Quebecers one has to assume the same thing.

One example. The federal government payroll scandal. Billions $'s spent on a payroll system that does not work. Apparently the poor civil service that 'suffers' so much from 'not' being paid has by estimate been overpaid to the tune of +$300 million. No need to fix that problem as so many skim their gains.

what's the angle with the pit bulls?
might be nice to remind us non-queerbeckers . . . .

As much as it is always rewarding to see a Liberal go down, I think Montrealers may have been hasty in giving Coderre the boot. He has only been in for one term. The business community supported him, and I think he did do somethings to deal with the corruption issue. As far as I can see, the reasons for supporting Plante had to do with nebulous factors like Coderre showing "arrogance". He may have done so, but it is not a good reason to go with essentially a little known replacement. The other thing she may have had going for her were socialist ideas -- improved bike lanes, parks, etc., but where will the money come from. I see this as similar to the sentiment that got Notley elected -- it is a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

"Don't get too excited. Projet Montreal is a cooky leftist party hell bent on civic socialism.

Yes, unfortunately, that is so. The voters might even come to miss Coderre.

Miss Coderre? Heck no...

Absurd spending: $50 million for a 'Sea to Sky' path, from the Port to Mount Royal.
$3.5 million for concrete 'Art' stumps on Mount Royal.
A gazebo that cost $700,000 !!!!!
Paying more than $24 million for the Formula E race, then giving away thousands of tickets because nobody was interested in going.
$40 million for lights on the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
A pitbull ban...

These guys are totally out of control.

Valerie Plante may not be better, but I wouldn't reward Coderre with one more minute as mayor of Montreal...

Yes, a commie replaces a commie. Still, I am glad like a pitbull licking his nuts that a breed specific legislation has been neutered (pun intended).

"It seems that cities have a fetish for voting in leftists of one sort or another to their city councils. Free lunch mentality."

Not really a free lunch mentality. It's because the Leftist political machine operates at all levels of government.
It is the same people who work to get Leftists elected at the federal/provincial/civic working to further their agenda and grip on power.

The conservative elective machinery just idles when it's civic election time and doesn't seem to grasp the importance of winning civic elections.
Failure of the imagination is how I think of it.

Conservatives were confused, divided, and ineffective in taking on Calgary's Mayor Nenshi (who will now play the Ken to Montreal's Bike-Lane Barbie). I'm not sure that there are any conservatives in Montreal (at least who would admit to it), so it may be best to work for a series of one-term leftist mayors.
