The trajectory of leadership

Last month was the two year anniversary of the Liberal win. Outside of socks, jogging and Pride parades, it’s getting to be a rough ride for Shiny Pony. The silver spoon has definitely tarnished.
This month was the first anniversary of the Trump win. There are early signs the trends will differ for the President than for the Prime Minister.

  2. Yes, there are signs of a different trajectory. Trudeau might win re-election and definitely won’t get Nancy Pelosi back her old job by trashing his party. The same cannot be said of Tangerine Dream.
The fact that Turmp can be called a ‘true conservative’ just shows what a worthless, empty term it is. And Lawrence Solomon is BS artist. It’s a disgrace that he’s allowed to pollute the FP.

  3. A writing tip for you: keep your comments short because the second paragraph invariably contradicts what you said in the first.
How many conservatives in his party is Trump trashing (or how many conservatives are trashing Trump)? If you’re a conservative you’ll have no trouble answering that question.

  4. Excellent analysis. Trump recently gave some excellent speeches (South Korea,Apec). I think Trump is about to be re-evaluated by all but the most narrow-minded critics.

  5. Elect a man who has done nothing with his life and he will continue to do nothing.
Elect a man who has spent his life building things and he will continue to build things.

  6. To metrump is middle of the road he likes unions (I don’t ) but cares more about American jobs than the unions due heh heh pun intended , he has put the coal miners back to work , clawed back actually cut the sack right off of the EPA showed the world the prowess of USA military might, slapped the us silly, destroyed isis esencially , pushed the illegals to Canada …lol not intentionally but we deserve it with our sock puppet leader….anyway I’m not a die hard trump fan but I do like his leadership style , when he speaks it’s genuine.
One point of interest …China a no joke country had the most impressive roll out for trump that I have ever seen I’m only 39 but I never saw that for bush ,Clinton or Obama ….trump is not a joke he is nota joke he means business North Korea is dealt with the way it needs to be you fight crazy with crazy …plain and simple. And go one and grabber by the puysse lmao!! 2020 FTW!!

  7. Elect a man who has done nothing with his life and he will continue to do nothing.
Elect a man who has spent his life building things and he will continue to build things.

  8. “How many conservatives in his party is Trump trashing (or how many conservatives are trashing Trump)?”
Many and many based on observation. And where is that contradiction you mentioned?
“I think Trump is about to be re-evaluated by all but the most narrow-minded critics. ”
Yes, just like Oceania is on the verge of victory over East Asia.
“Elect a man who has spent his life building things and he will continue to build things. ”
Elect a man who has spent his life running enterprises into the ground and he will continue to run enterprises into the ground.

  9. Lawrence Solomon … MY man! … you NAILED IT! American conservatives have been BEGGING for a REAL conservative candidate since Reagan. And after McCain and Romney … we were DESPERATE. And let me be deadly honest … I remember the EXACT moment when I became convinced Trump would be THE MOST conservative President in a generation …. it was the MOMENT all the GOPes started calling him a New York liberal. That signaled very, very, clearly to me that the GOPes were scared shitless that their jig was up. They signaled PANIC which is the exact signal I wanted to see. Because like every other Trump voter, we don’t believe the GOPes … the McConells amp McCains … they’ve LIED to us too many times. And as Chrissy Hinde sang/snarled …
The middle of the road is no private cul-de-sac
I can’t get from the cab to the curb
Without some little jerk on my back

The GOPe is a little jerk on my back … and we have almost shook him off …

  10. Decent article. But I disagree that trump is a crass buffoonish boor. Trump is not at all fake. What you see is what you get. There is no fake patios depending on the audience.
Leftists view him as such because low information voters – otherwise known as liberals – lack both critical thinking abilities and curiosity. As such they regurgitate what they are spoon fed by the corporate media.
Trump may well save the world from the progressive dungeon we were hurtling toward.
Had hillary won orwells 1984 would have become a reality.
Sadly we threw away our future for generations in Canada by removing the best leader on the planet and replaced him with a man child who embraces his dunning-Kruger syndrome with a narcissistic zeal

  11. “Trump may well save the world from the progressive dungeon we were hurtling toward.” If it is not too late already. Vlad Lenin may win yet.
Well said sir, and so true.

  12. “Leftists view him as such because low information voters – otherwise known as liberals – lack both critical thinking abilities and curiosity. As such they regurgitate what they are spoon fed by the corporate media. ”
    The irony…the lack of self-awareness…

  13. Easiest thing in the world to be a liberal. Just say so and no further questions. A consevative gets made fun of laughed at called a racist bigot homophobe. Our candidates get the sane treatment. We show up to political events and get yelled at and assaulted by leftists. So go ahead and be smug you boot licking rube. The feeling is mutual and we’re done.

  14. I enjoy the battle to drain the swamp most of all. A continuin drama of the highest order.

  15. I agree, Trump is not a buffoonish boor. He is in fact unusually straight forward and candid for a politician. Solomon mentions the crass veneer, but I view that as rather typical of New Yorkers. They are often loud mouth braggarts. They can be rude, pushy and blunt. I personally am not put off by the New Yorker persona. I see it as a survival strategy for living in a huge metropolis where you have to fight for attention. But many Canadians really dislike that type of personality — the opposite of British modesty and reserve. It ties in somewhat with the Canadian dislike of Americans. Many Canadians like to sneer at Americans and consider themselves superior. I think this may be behind the almost universal Canadian dislike of Trump. It is not rational, but it is there, so Solomon acknowledges it.

  16. Solomon has it right, very good column. I’m embarrassed by so many Canadians latching onto the hate Trump band wagon perpetrated by the crazed leftist media and of course the cesspool known as Hollywood.
Many fools in Canada think it’s fashionable to be against Trump without based on the shit from the entertainment world with boors mocking him. It’s embarrassing really.

  17. Having grown up in the Niagara area and occasionally rubbing shoulders with New Yorkers at my workplace and in the National Guard, I would agree with your comment. For some reason this anti-Americanism is rampant among the Whig constituency of Canadians. It could be a mental leftover from the United Empire Loyalist days.

  18. Lizj and Linda L I agree totally , I work in Arizona ….with several other Canadians I find it funny and this is true first hand expierience im not joking or lying here.
The Americans I work with with out knowing single out the “whiners” and everyone of them ot most but all of them are from Ontario and Quebec they have no idea I tell them they are from the east and they quickly figured out that the Manitoba Ontario boarder is more than just a boarder they ask me things like why do the Quebecers whine so much ? They say things like how come the Ontario guys complain about the jobs we give them ….my buddy Cory , myself ,and dale are all from Alberta , my friend Nolan is from Manitoba and my buddy Dave is from Edmonton and brad and Duane are from Bc ….they always give us the tough jobs not because we are dumb and do the hard work for the same price down in the south you are valued by your output and the ability to get the job done …so our reward is when there is no work we come in and sit around and get paid no one complains (except the eastern Canadians) when we want time of a month two months there is never an issue …but the frenchies and the Ontario guys get a rough ride when they want time off they are almost always given a max of 3 weeks only and are always doing the little easy jobs after we do the big hard jobs then they complain we don’t do anything …lol however Maurice is the one guy who does really well from the east he is a good guy (ex military) but even he whines a lot. The a,Eric an make fun of them all the time (French fried faggits) those are words from several ex marines lol.
I can tell you the Mexicans I work with voted for trump a few hate him but their brethren quickly defend trump and call them ignorant lol lots of military where I work ex marines , army rangers, Air Force guys not much room for bs with these guys and they truly respect us western canadians …I convinced one guy and his wife to visit Alberta over the summer for vacation instead of Wyoming and they went he showed me banff , jasper, whistler pictures asked me a few questions about “no idling” signs in banff …was very impressed at the beauty of the Canadian Rockies he will take his son there when he is done his deployment .
The Manitoba Ontario boarder is a separation of ideas, ideals, beliefs ,and cultures yes the west has its little socialist problems too we are Canadians we will never ever rid ourselves of gov dependence we are to scared but I see it more in the west then the east.

  19. Here let me encapsulate the column in one sentence.
Every election lacks a true conservative on the ballot and Trump qualified according to conservative standards not the lib-left standards.

  20. IOW, there are no such thing as ‘conservative standards’ just like I said.
It’s clear even just from this comments section that The Trump Thing is a cult pure and simple. Nancy Pelosi should thank all of you for giving her back everything.

  21. “The Trump Thing is a cult pure and simple” I suspect that on some level you think your comments actually makes sense. Here’s a clue: They may make sense to you, but they do not make sense to other commentors here. Surely you do not seriously expect to have people respect your views when you are so off the mark with much of what you say.

  22. Political correctness is the absolute pinnacle of stunted “self-awareness”.
MY President’s election was even more “shocking” than that of (Democrat) Harry Truman’s … who famously said “I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell” MY President is simply telling the TRUTH … which is quite painful for all the little politically corrected snowflakes to hear. The TRUTH burns in the ears of delicate flakes.

  23. It is not much wonder Canadians have such a negative view of Trump when you consider all the propaganda fed to them daily by CBC, CTV.

  24. My dislike for Trump comes from more than a few angles. But there’s many reasons why I like him. Economy has continued both GDP and job growth. I haven’t checked his numbers vs the last year of Obama but they’re probably a wee bit better. Some regulation changes and eliminations are good. Approving KXLis fantastic and gets huge points from me.
As far as abortion that’s probably going nowhere as I doubt he can change much there overall. Even though I am pro choice I have no problem with him cutting federal abortion spending as long as it doesn’t cut into family planning funding. There likely won’t be any more changes.
As far as the negatives, well passing EOs when he knew damn well they are unconstitutional is one. Election promises that are unconstitutional is another. His love affair with “clean coal” is amusing. It is not clean, and coal as an industry will continue to shed jobs even with record production levels. A lot of it is exported because it is way smarter and cheaper to use natural gas locally. Manufacturing is similar, record high production numbers but jobs continue to decline due to automation
His infatuation with trade deficits is bizarre. We could eliminate ours with the US by simply exporting our oil elsewhere. In Trumps eye it would be “fixed”. Threatening media licences is a play straight out of the Chavez/Maduro playbook
    .
There’s also a reason your not hearing much about what he should do with sanctuary cities. There’s nothing more he can do they’re protected by the constitution (mostly 10th amendment) despite all of the rhetoric from the white house about them.

  25. Begging your pardon but what EOs has Trump initiated that have been declared unconstitutional? Last I checked the SCOTUS had over turned all the lower courts rulings and declared Trumps EOs constitutional.

  26. Cutting funding to sanctuary cities is one and his immigration EO had to be modified to be constitutional

  27. “His infatuation with trade deficits is bizarre. We could eliminate ours with the US by simply exporting our oil elsewhere.”
So, you support CDN pipelines east & west for export then? Just want to clear that up.
I’m getting tired with all this Canadian focus on what goes on in the US vs what is happening here.

  28. “…Elect a man who has spent his life running enterprises into the ground and he will continue to run enterprises into the ground.”
Not just enterprises. Some people can run whole countries into the ground – see Chavez, Obama, Trudeau.

  29. “… The irony…the lack of self-awareness.. ”
Indeed. You are the punch line in your own life.

  30. Bottom line, how anyone with a freaking functioning brain can look at what Canada has for a PM and then have the gall to critique Trump is stunning. I’ll take Trump over the wimp we have as a front man/poseur play acting, directed from behind the curtain.

  31. The ability of liberals to look past reality is always amusing.
    MAGA! (make Alberta great again)

  32. As crappy as Trudeau is, he’s not senile/mentally ill. The same cannot be said of Turmp. Trudeau is also legalizing MJ.

  33. Trump is not senile or mentally ill. That is an absolutely absurd claim. Trump is not the the one dressing up in Superman costumes and rainbow sox. Also, as is appropriate for a national leader, Trump champions his country’s interest. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Justin. I would take Trump over Trudeau any day. Maybe sane people would.

  34. Huh? Legalizing dope is something anyone WANTS on their resume’? What an accomplishment … facilitating the accelerated dumbing-down of Western society. Let’s teach elementary school children how to roll a spliff ? Who needs all those “books”,and “rules” maaaaaaaannn

  35. Hey unme, have a look at the photo just a few articles lower down on this blog. Sanity as celebrated by Tinkerbell – the Canadian PM? Really? You are joking aren’t you! Aren’t you???

  36. “Trump is not the the one dressing up in Superman costumes and rainbow sox.”
Instead Trump is dumb enough to believe there is such thing as a trade deficit.
You know the convos with the Aussie PM that were leaked? About the deal where the US might take in some immigrants? Trump actually thought that this was some sort of plot to inundate the US with jihadists. He’s that nuts.
“Trump champions his country’s interest. ”
And yet he chose Powell over Taylor for the fed chief.
“Legalizing dope is something anyone WANTS on their resume’? ”
Yes. That is a step forward for freedom and a defeat for statism.
